I'm trying to bind a nullable bit column, which at the moment is mostly null, but I need to somehow convert the null to a 'false' on runtime because it doesn't bind to a checkbox if it's null. But, I am currently unable to change the default value and update all records accordingly - is there a way to do this in runtime?

I'm currently working on a small project and therefore created a gridview, including one bit column which has been linked with a checkbox in both the itemtemplate as the edititemtemplate (autopostback = true).Databinding for these two checkboxes has been linked (two-way) to the bit column.Now I want to display the gridview to end-users. They should be able to just click on the checkbox so they value in the database column gets changed as well (as I want to run update queries behind it), but not passing via the command column 'EDIT'.=> problem I'm having now is that the bit column in the database doesn't get updated.

I am dynamically binding a typed list to a GridView control.
The Grid View Control is in an asp.net page that is wrapped in an asp:UpdatePanel (Ajax).
The first column contains a checkbox control.
Only one checkbox may be checked in this column.
If the user checks a checkbox, all other checkbox must be unchecked.
I am trying to achieve this using client-side script without success.
In the handler for the GridView's RowDatabound event, have attempted to add an attribute to the CheckBox contained within the cell.

GridView
<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AllowPaging="True"
AllowSorting="True" PagerSettings-Position="TopAndBottom"
PagerSettings-Mode="Numeric" PageSize="40" CellPadding="4" DataSourceID="dsEquipmentGridView"
ForeColor="#333333" GridLines="Horizontal" Style="font-size: x-small" AutoGenerateColumns="False"
[Code]....
For the first page loaded, it shows the correct DataKey value if I click on the command field.
However if I change to the next page of results, upon selecting a record the corresponding value is incorrect. It seems to keep the previous page information. How do I overcome this?
EDIT:
In the GridView1_SelectedIndexChanged method, I used the following:
[Code].....
I am unable to get the correct value after paging.

I have a gridview which displays following columns:
TaskID, TaskDescription, IsComplete, DateOfCompletion
Now what I want to achieve is, when user clicks IsComplete checkbox, she must enter the date of completion. So, I want a validation (client side) on DateOfCompletion if the checkbox is selected (checked). And, I also want to use Validator Callout Extender
if possible.
How can I achieve this?

I have setup my business object to have a create_date and edit_date members both datetime datatypes. My company want to display the create_date and edit_date fields in a gridview for each transaction. The problem i have is that after insterting a record it will have a valid create_date but no edit_date and when displayed in the gridview it defaults to datetime.minvalue (My default). How on earth do i show an empty field in my gridview for a null datetime field in the database?
I am using similar architecture to the Imar Spaanjaars example of a tiered solution. With a few small tweeks it has worked well for me for ages. I am passing a List<Database> to my object datasource which connects to my gridview.

I am using NLog for logging in an ASP.Net application and making use of the database target with Microsoft Sql Server.I have some logging parameters that are optional and not always specified. I would like these to be written as null when they are not provided, however NLog seems to always write them as empty strings.
Is there a way to configure it to write null as the default?

I have a date that is entered into the database in dd/MM/yyyy format via a form.
It is then outputted on another page in a sort of calendar style, ie MMM and dd.
When this form is filled in in the UK, and the date is for example the 3rd April, everything is ok. However if filled out in the US, when outputted the date shows as 4th March.
So my question is how do I ensure, when outputting the date, it's read as dd/MM/yyyy and not MM/dd/yyyy ?
Is it a problem that should be addressed when the data is added, or when it is printed?
For reference:
When the date is added:
value="@DateTime.Now.ToString("dd/MM/yyyy")"
And when it is printed:
<h2>
<span class="month">@row.EntryDate.ToString("MMM")</span>
<span class="day">@row.EntryDate.ToString("dd")</span>
</h2>

I have a template field within a GridView to display a checkbox in edit view and some custom text in normal view.
The results of the query to populate the grid are coming back in a DataSet.
In the edit view I can't get the checkbox to accept the column that is retuning from the DataSet (which is in T/F format) as it says its not the correct type. Even if I return "true" or 1 in the column it still dosn't work.
I take it I need to convert but can't get the syntax correct in this context
<EditItemTemplate>
<asp:CheckBox ID="cbPostToFarm" runat="server" Checked='<% Bind("BOOL_COL")' />
</EditItemTemplate>

Using Visual Web Developer 2008 Express with what I'm assuming is Sql 2008 Express. Using SqlDataSource, when I try to configure a data source, I'm able to input a server name: (local)sqlexpress and the "Test Connection" button shows that it was successful. However, if I type in a new database table name and VWD 2008 asks if I would like to create it, I keep getting the message: "OBJECT REFERENCE NOT SET TO AN INSTANCE OF AN OBJECT." No idea what that means or how to fix it. I can't open theDatabase Explorer View.

I can't seem to check the checked value of a dynamic checkbox within a gridview. I've tried dozens of ways to test the checkbox's checked value, but it still returns false, when it should return true. If I change the checked value to true in the ASPX web page, then it will return true, even when it should return false. Any ideas? I've tried many different ways of checking the checkbox value including the one below.
MailingLabels.aspx
Code:
<asp:GridView ID="GridView" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataKeyNames="NewClientID">
<Columns>
<asp:BoundField DataField="NewClientID" InsertVisible="false" />

On click of checkbox, I need to retrieve immediate parent span's class value:
The checkbox column is defined in an ItemTemplate as:
<asp:CheckBox CssClass='<%# Eval("ID") %>' Checked='<%# Eval("IsSelected") %>'
Text="" runat="server" onclick="CartItemCheckClicked()" />
The JS function is defined as:
function CartItemCheckClicked() {
alert($(this).parent().attr('class')); //Undefined
//alert($(this).attr('id')); //Undefined [code]....
But the result is always 'undefined'. How do I access the checkbox or parent span?

I edited my gridview template by adding an additional column of checkbox and to its header
I managed to do a checkchange for select all or none and for selecting single of multiple checkbox.
My problem here is that when I try to select all, uncheck another checkbox, the header checkbox is still checked and the unchecked checkbox becomes checked again.
If i did not check my header checkbox and just check it normally, its fine.
