VS 2008 Checkbox In Gridview - To Use A Type Of Template In The Rows?

I have a question on adding a checkbox to my gridview that is binded to a SQLDatasource control. I have a field called SEL for the checkbox in my table. What I need to do is list the records and be able to check any of the existing checkboxes on any of the rows. When I added the checkbox in there, they are disabled and cannot change them. Is this where I need to use a type of template in the rows? Can they all be allowed to check without turning on the edit for each one individually at a time? I just want to check any needed.This is what I have there now:Code:

i want to sort my Gridview rows by a template column that is not bound to any database field. This template coulmn just has a label whose text i set in code depending on a value in a different column that is databound. So am stuck on how to set its sortExpression since its not linked to an column.

I am using gridview. I Added checkboc under itemtemplate.My page works fine. i have set my page according 508 standards. It looks for associated control id for every textbox, check box..etc.
When i check my page by 508 standards its giving form lable is missing for gridview item tamplate checkbox. i tried adding lable inside item tamplate and i set the check box id as Associated control id for the label. eventhough its not going off that error. After setting some text my errors are resolved.
but if add any text item template checkbox alignment is missing. i cann't hidden the lable. If i hidden the label it again show up Form label is missing. how can i add lable without effecting to GV item template checkbox alignment.

I have an application that I would like to be able to allow the user to modify multiple characteristics of each record within a datagrid.
Most characteristics require data to be entered in a text box but some a check box would be more appropriate.
My question is does a gridview column need to have all the same item template controls? or could I read from the database the control type and dynamically alter the template control for each row as it loads?

Background: I'm populating lots of asp.net c# GridViews and ListViews from a database and subsequently users may export them to Excel. I want export as native Excel (not html). I can't use office automation, and I'm using JET which works fine. I have no control over users' machines. Question: When doing the export, you have to tell Jet what type each field is, in my case "text" (varchar) or "numeric" (double). The difference is that if you export a numeric column, the users can sum the data in Excel, where as strings are exported with a leading apostrophe and so are not much use in arithmetic.
Currently I parse the first data row of the Grid/ListView, check if each value is numeric or text, and assign a type to the column accordingly. That works, except for when I have something in the first column which looks numeric but in fact is a text string. I don't want to parse every row in order to be sure I have the correct data type as some of these exports are quite large. When I load the Grid/ListView from the database, the database certainly knows what type each field is. So my question is... how do I extract the type of the database item behind a a Grid/ListView item? I could explicitly code it as an attribute on the item, but that's duplicating information I already have, if only I can get to it. I know that where I have a DataTable then I can get the underlying type from that, but mostly I don't have tables handy, just the Grid/ListView. Note that Jet will throw if you try to insert an empty string into a nullable numeric column. The way to do this is to omit that column name from the insert statement, or output a zero.

I have a gridview with two checkbox columns (Freeze & Display) with 10 rows, when i check the Freeze checkbox in 5th row, then all the rows from 1st to 5th row will get checked, and then "Display" checkbox will get automatically checked and get disabled for the first 5 rows. Then when i uncheck the 3rd row Freeze checkbox, then the row below from 3rd to 5th row should get unchecked. Is this functionality can be implemented.

I have 5 gridviews, all of of them have a Checkbox template field. I already did SUM of a specific column in the gridviews and displayed the Total in the gridview footers.
There is a submit button on the page as well.(this is not in a template column in the gridview)
what i do is select some rows in the gridviews by ticking the checkbox. Then I click on the submit button and the values change in the database and page refreshes with the new Total in the gridview footers. Any row that was ticked. the checkbox for that row in the gridview gets disabled. so cannot change the value again.
Now i want a way to show a popup with a SUM of those rows that are ticked recently and the SUM of already ticked and disabled rows before the values change for the ticked rows in the gridview when the submit button is clicked.

I have a textbox added in an item template so I can enter data. But when I press enter in a textbox it caused the page to postback and I lose the data entered. I can tab through fine but why does Enter cause a postback? Can I disable this?

The page count is set to 10, when the user checks the checkbox(es), I will need to insert those records in a table. How will I know which row was selected? I found an example (untried) that is designed to loop through and insert the necessary records; but it does not address inserting records based on selecting rows via a checkbox. I am trying to set come columns to invisible after all of the rows are binded but I'm having trouble. I'm hiding columns that have empty data which I save in a session variable. This works fine. Then I tried changing the columns visible property using the ColumnByName routine in the DataBound but that must be the wrong event because I do not think the columns exist yet.
The columns are autogenerated btw.
Where can I set the columns properties after it has binded? Can i do this before the columns are autogenerated the the screen itself?

I am having gridview and i have check box for each row. There are 2 buttons ,accept and reject outside the gridview. If I click accept button, all the checked rows fields value should change to accept and if i click reject button all the checked rows column value should change to reject. There are 3 columns only one column will change.

I just wrote something small up with a GridView databound to the products table of the northwind database to play around with the control. I added a template field and put a checkbox in it, ProductID, ProductName, and UnitCost. I can successfully loop through the GridView and find the rows that have the checkbox checked, and can get ProductName for each row, but keep erroring out on ProductID and UnitCost. It's probably something small, but I just cannot figure it out.Here is what I have so far:

I have a gridview and the gridview contains some boundfield, templatefield, checkbox and an update command button.
When I click the update button, I want to update only 2 columns. So I made rest of columns readonly=true.
BUT, there is a template field and I am changing the value of the template field from code behind. like below

I do not want to update the above column. so when I click update button, the rows having value more than 0 is working fine.
BUT The rows displaying "Expired" (value less than 0) showing error. It says "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
