VS 2008 Enabling Public Access To Local IIS Server's Website?

Nov 8, 2010

I can't figure this out. I have a simple ASP.NET application that I am hosting on my computer which all local computers can hit. The next thing I want to do is setup the website for public access. No matter what I can't seem to get it to work.

- I have allowed incoming connections to port 80 through the firewall.

- I have setup my router to port forward all HTTP requests (80) to my locally assigned IP (192.168.1.XXX).

- I have setup my server to use anonymous authentication, which is set to "Application pool identity".

- I have even shut off my firewall to try and see if it would work.

Can't figure this out. Read a bunch of information, and in my head this should work, but it seems like I am missing something simple. I realize this thread's subject matter applies to IIS7 more-so than ASP.NET, however since I am relatively new to ASP I figured maybe I missed an ASP setting or something.

Enabling Service Broker In SQL Server 2008?

May 3, 2010

I am integrating SqlCacheDependency to use in my LinqToSQL datacontext.I am using an extension class for Linq querys found here - http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/linqtosqlcacheI have wired up the code and when I open the page I get this exception - "The SQL Server Service Broker for the current database is not enabled, and as a result query notifications are not supported. Please enable the Service Broker for this database if you wish to use notifications."its coming from this event in the global.asax

protected void Application_Start()
{
RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes);
//In Application Start Event
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDependency.Start(new dataContextDataContext().Connection.ConnectionString);
}

my question is...how do i enable Service Broker in my SQL server 2008 database? I have tried to run this query.. ALTER DATABASE tablename SET ENABLE_BROKER but it never ends and runs for ever, I have to manually stop it.once I have this set in SQL server 2008, will it filter down to my DataContext, or do I need to configure something there too ?

SQL Server :: 2008 Express Deployment And Local Databases

Jan 13, 2011

I am fairly new to ASP.net - comming from a PHP / MYSQL background sometimes certain things in ASP.net confuse the hell out of me. In PHP - when writing an application you always connect to an external database server (MYSQL , PostGreSQL ) using a username and password and aswell a datbase server address(mostly localhost). Now with ASP.net i noticed that you can connect to an existing database within SQL server or you can create a local database in the App_Data folder.

The local database seems much easier to work with however my concern is what would you store in a local database? surely you cannot use it as a main database to store all your data(compared to a MYSQL database)? Secondarily with SQL server - when i login into SQL server management express , it uses "Windows Authetication" , i tried to select "Sql Server authentication" and enter my own username and password to login but that did'nt work. How do i deploy a database from SQL server to the web? - in MYSQL for example we would have a SQL dump file , which can be simply imported/exported from server to server.

SQL Server Express 2008 Using (local) In Connection String

May 18, 2010

Is it possible to connect to a SQL Server Express 2008 database in ASP.NET with a server name of (local) like "server=(local);integrated security=SSPI;database=DBNAME"? I'm working with another developer on a project and it's getting annoying having to have 2 different version of web.config because he is using SQL Server 2008 and (local) works, but I can't seem to get it to work with SQL Server 2008 Express locally. The database is located on the same computer as the .NET code in case that matters.

WebMatrix :: Run Website On Local Server?

Sep 27, 2010

I am new to this new version of Webmatrix. I developed a couple of web sites on the previous version about 4 years ago.

I have downloaded and installed all of the recommended products using Microsoft Web Platform Installer including IIS Express, Web Matrix and Visual Studio 2010 Express.

1) I followed the Start From Scratch and set up the Hello World web site.

When I click on Run, if I am not online Internet Explorer opens but does not display the Hello World site.

If I am online and click on Run the Hello World site does display.

2) The new Webmatrix does not not have different tabs like the previous one did: Design & HTML & Code. To see the Design I launched Visual Studio 2010 Express but it still only shows me the code. In Tools/Options I have selected both Design view and Split View but both still only show me the code.

Configuration :: Copy Website From Web Server To Local IIS

Oct 20, 2010

There's a project I'm doing now which is an ASP.net 2.0 written website with SQL database. (it was just assigned to me for deployment and no contact to programmer who is AWOL :-)

Scope of project is to move everything from live site to local server and display/execute exactly the way it does on the livesite (web).

Already configured Windows 2003 server as IIS and successfully restored the database through SQL 2008.

Since I am new to ASP.net deployment this is where my trouble starts: manually copied httpdocs folder to local server, copy website through MS web developer and tried to run it on local machine http://127.0.x.x/default.aspx for the home page. from there I am getting a server error log specifically the line " <configuration xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/.NetConfiguration/v2.0">"

I know I have some work to do in here I do want to call the attention of ghw123 since he

is familiar with the dynamics of IIS and moving websites. Another thing I would like to point is the local server doesn't display any IP address when running ipconfig or ping from command prompt i simply pull out the ip info from the running IIS service itself. Lastly, I need to figure out which file/folders are really running on the livesite since there are lots of them (for other purpose maybe) on the remote server it is hosted.

IIS Configuration :: Website Working Fine On Local But Does Not Work On Server

Jan 4, 2013

In my site on every load some session is made through url and single page(say xyz.aspx) is call every time and on the basis of url we create session. When i click on a href tag , page start reloading ,url we created is accurate but data doesn't change every time, means some time it show data on first click, but some time after 3 or 4 click.

I say problem is weird because when i run this on my local server there is no problem, when i run this on my project (visual studio) there is no problem , but when i up this project on my online server it show this kind of error but not every time .

I use data caching to fill dataset. There is no problem in this website since we created this (more than 1 year) and we don't made any change on this page but suddenly it starts showing this kind of error so what kind of error this is.

Security :: Website Windows Authentication Fails When Enabling SQL Mixed Mode?

Oct 18, 2010

Just to describe the scenario. I have a website. This lives on a webserver. On that webserver is an SQL server. The website connects to this database using windows authentication. I have written a windows form application that connects to the SQL Server on the webserver. This application is being run from a location on out intranet. The Winform application use SQL authentication to connect to the database. The SQL Server didn't have mix mode authentication enabled. So I enabled it. The winform application could now connect to the SQL Server.

This is where it starts getting a little strange.

The Website that was already connecting find using integrated authentication starts failing with:

Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE'

When you are enabling mixed mode authentication, you are adding another authentication method, why would the original Windows authentication fail?
