One thing I would like to improve on for many of my web applications, is the user interface design and the "look and feel" of the sites. To begin looking at how to do this, I thought I would start by asking the community what additional software they use or would recommend to combine with either VS2008 or VS2010.

pnlLookupTable is, as you may have guessed, a Panel control. I can change the value of the Text property in the Properties window and it's reflected in the markup like it should be. However, the design view of the UserControl inside a page does not show updated GroupingText for the Panel. How can I get this to happen?

I have changed some identifiers and other trivial things to protect the proprietary nature of the code.
I should also reiterate that I'm looking at a Web form in design mode that has my control added, and I'm changing the Text property. I want to see the change to the Panel's GroupingText visually in the designer.
I have looked at all the posts I can find on this problem and tried everything I can think of, but still the problem persists. I am getting really sick of it.was working fine for the last year until an update to MS Office 2007 caused a lot of problems (automatic update). After checking posts here, I removed it completely. No change. I then tried all the things I could find on other posts, also no change. Today, I removed VS and the Web Authoring Component and re-installed. Still no go.
Does anyone have a fix for this problem. It seems that it has been around a long time, but is still giving problems. I even saw one suggestion to reformat the drive! You've got to be joking!
I have several tables in a database (6-7 tables and ~200,000 records, MS SQL) that I'd like users to be able to use a web based query form and return information/datagrid/download csv/excel files. I'd like the user to be able to query the table they want and fields they want, time they want (maybe datepicker)or by selecting a field and perform a GT/LT operation on it. Has anyone done this and if so are there any resources/templates for this type of thing?Here is an example:I have a 'weather' table with 20 variables in it. I'd like a user to be able to select the fields they want to export (radio/check box) by using a date picker A user could select the variable "Temperature" and use GT/LT, etc. some value they enter. in a perfect world, the user could select a checkbox to include all other fields in the output.

I am somewhat of a novice at ASP.NET, but have a lot of database experience. I want to build a web query interface to allow users to get data back from a database. The idea would be to choose various fields (I have about 20+ fields and 200,000 records in the database, and use either the checkbox, listpicker, radio, etc. to select the fields they want). Then the person could search by date, or search by greater than/less than statements in a particular field.
For example: the user could select: Temerature as the variable, and then Greater than and then enter a value and hit submit. I'd like the option to be able to include all the other fields from the table as well (maybe with a check box or something).
I am new in developing using asp.net.
I use java(struts2) to do the web application before,it is easy to control this use the jsp tag or struts2 tags: For example(suppose the "do something" operation need use login):

So if a user did not login,he will never see the menu of "do something".
Now I wonder how to make it in the asp.net?

I have a webpart with asp.net control within.I would like to hide some parts of that control, some asp:net panels etc. regarding one of the TextBox's value. The issue is that I don't know to change the visibility of asp:panel wrapper without any postback, and how to refresh page to see the changes on the UI.I was trying to implement TextChanged event but it dosen't work.

I have been developing asp.net websites and have mainly been using the Visual studio toolbox build in controls supported by the AjaxcontrolToolkit and the applications have been mainly used inhouse running on our company intranet.
But now a new client wants a much more professional looking, commercial web application and they have a budget for some user components for use in the application. Any recommendations where value for money will be realised.
Interested in components that will integrate well with ASP.NET 3.5 SP1 or even .NET 4.

View 7 RepliesI am creating a interface for User Role Management based on built in membership provider.I want to display all the roles as check boxes for a selected user. I am able to display all the roles in the database, but not able to load the specific user roles. For example, I am able to publish role 1 role 2 role3 role 4 as check boxes. But if the user is already flagged as role 1 and role 3, I am not able to show that data (role1 and 3 should be checked when form loads, but right now, they are not checked)...How do I get the roles as checked boxes display on a page.I am using a repeater control to display roles as check boxes on the page..

View 3 Repliesi'm quite a newb in asp.net , so here we go:i used the dreamspark project in order to get VS 2008 pro (free and legal) , and then i started experiencing with asp.net .the problem is that whenever i choose the split mode, it doesn't go there at all, and whenever i choose the 'design' mode, the tab itself is frozen yet it's possible to close it. it doesn't matter what the file (with the aspx extention) has in it (even a

Now when I'm in the design view of a dataset (an xsd file) and try to add a new column a get an error message:"Failed to add column. The server version is not supported. Only servers up to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 are supported".But if I add a column from Visual Studio 2005 to a SQL Server 2008 database it works fine.
View 2 RepliesI downloaded VWD 2008 express months ago. Don't know what happened but my design view went.I have reinstalled the application several times but no success. I posted this problem on several forums and got many suggestions like uninstall office 2007, reinstall web authoring component, install n et.framework 3.5 which is not compatible with Win7 and does not install, so I have net.framework 4.0. I tried to bburn the iso file installation package, burnt it to a dvd and install it from the media, nothing.My pc is a Compaq Presario CQ61 Notebook running Win7 Home Edition.

I render some markup dynamically in a Web User Control, can I get that out in design mode, and not only runtime?

... nothing happens when I check the design view of the control. Not if I remove the if (this.DesignMode)-condition either.
We have a big portal that needs user registration to allow them use its services. It's already done in .NET and SOL Server 2005. we are in the phase now of discovering all the problems of the current registration system to build a new robust flexible one that can be extended easily and can be more usable for all services.

View 5 RepliesI'm currently messing around in Access to develop a website, or I should say - develop the initial workings of a database system in an environment that I am familiar with. As the .Net environment is the one I am most familiar with for developing, deploying the Access database into the more full-fledged SQL Server environment is a natural step. Now comes the part with ASP.Net that I'm not so familiar with - reconciliating differences between how I am coding and designing my database with the default website project that ASP.Net provides for a basic multi-user website, from which I've noticed is a lot more thorough than any solution I could code up within a reasonable time-frame.
However, this comes at a cost. I have no inkling on how user data is stored within this environment or how to extend it within my own needs. I can make sample data up the wazoo on my laptop, but if I have no idea how to incorporate with a pre-existing framework, it is worthless to me. The reason why I have not considered this until now is the data I have been working on doesn't pertain to the users in a direct fashion. Anyone have experience designing websites that use ASP.Net and maintain user access? What problems, issues, and design considerations might I need to concern myself when developing a multi-user website with ASP.Net in addition to my data?
