I am losing User.Identity.Name unexpectedly, resulting in "out of the blue" redirects to Login.aspx.
This seems to happen randomly, often in the first few minutes after a user login.
To track this down I setup a Trace text file and append an entry to it when any page loads. I also write an entry from Session_OnStart event and Session_OnEnd event in Global.aspx. When user logs out, I call Session.Abandon, which should fire the Session_OnEnd event, and cause a log entry. However, this is not happening. It seems that Session.Abandon is not firing Session_OnEnd, inconsistent with info inhttp://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms178583.aspx
Session_OnStart does seem to be firing as expected.
I have noticed that when I have a session that has expired, the Session_OnStart event fires with every new request.
I suppose that this behavior is not normal, because I was expecting that the session would re-start only with the first request and not with every subsequent request.
This behavior occurs only with sessions where the timeout period has been exceded.
The current conditions under which I have experienced this problem are:
I have experienced this problem with an application that is using the .NET 2.0 framework and with a session mode configured to InProc. This problem is happening both on Windows XP SP3 and Windows 2003 Server.
Why Session_OnEnd does not fire in state server & SQL Server modes....... i mean what is the speciality in InProc mode that Session_OnEnd fires in that mode only ????
View 1 RepliesIf VS 2008 and VWD 2008 are both installed on the same machine, will they both use the same Projects folder to keep my projects in?If so, can I open the projects and run them interchangeably with VS2008 and VWD 2008? This is the folder that is located at " User>Documents>Visual Studio 2008>Projects
View 1 RepliesI have looked at all the posts I can find on this problem and tried everything I can think of, but still the problem persists. I am getting really sick of it.was working fine for the last year until an update to MS Office 2007 caused a lot of problems (automatic update). After checking posts here, I removed it completely. No change. I then tried all the things I could find on other posts, also no change. Today, I removed VS and the Web Authoring Component and re-installed. Still no go.
Does anyone have a fix for this problem. It seems that it has been around a long time, but is still giving problems. I even saw one suggestion to reformat the drive! You've got to be joking!
I'm creating a website and I'm testing resgistering and Log-in.
I followed a simple tutorial to create a Log-in in Visual Studio C# template which generated a SQL Server database.Locally the Log-in and registration page works perfectly. The problem is that when I upload my site to the hosting site the navigation works but the Log-in and Registration forms send an error when clicked "Register" or "Log-in". I contacted the site and they upload my database the way it should be because I was doing it wrong. I can see all my files including the data base.
They commented me that I had to do a connection string to the data base so the login and registration forms can work. I don't understand how to do that, I know the connection string has to be declared in the Web Config File, the thing is that I don't know how to write that code and link it to my data base in the hosting site, in fact I have sample code but I don't know just what do I need to put in it.

Using the Web Platform installer, in installed both the Visual Web Developer Express 2008 and SQL Server Management Studio Express 2008. Next, I connected to my local SQL Server Express 2008 and created a simple database and table using Visual Web Developer Express 2008 where the database file resided in the app data folder of my website. I can connect and explore the table from both Visual
Web Developer 2008 as well as the full blown version of Visual Studio 2008.
I am new to vwd. I installed vwd express edition 2008 with sql express 2008 in xp sp2. After this i installed report view 2008 addon for vwd express. After the installation i noticed that there is no toolbox in my vwd. Before it was there.

I recently bought a new computer, so I want to copy the projects into current system which has visual studio. I have a project developed in VWD 2008. I copied the folder into a flash drive and copied it back into the new system.
Knowing the location, how I do import the project into new system?
I have a project that I developed in VS2005 and that has been put into VSS. I am trying to "get" it on a new machine and convert it to VS2008 because that is what is installed on the new machine. I am having problems with it that I think originate in its working folder. So my basic question is, when you try to work with a solution that's in VSS should you maintain the same folder structure that it had when it was originally checked in? I'm not particularly happy with its original structure because it goes on and on seven levels deep, and I wanted to just cut it down to C:ProjectsResNew, but if that's what it takes to get it to work, I'll do it.

View 1 RepliesWould something be missing, not working, or confusing if I do this? First, install SQL Server 2008 Standard, and SP1. Then, install Visual Studio 2010 Professional, unchecking SQL Server 2008 Express option. Or would I need to fix any configurations afterwards?
