VS 2010 - Change Menu Items On Master Page Depending On Content Page Selection
Feb 15, 2012
I have a master page with an unordered list that contains items like, Home, Messages etc.
Now I am working on an EditProfile.aspx page and I want the menu to change and have items like Basic Information, Profile Picture etc. Sort of like facebook. What is the best way to accomplish this...
I do not have much experience with asp:menus. How would I be able to make visible or invisible certian pages depending on a factor that I get from a session varaible? I plan on doing this on the backend in VB.net.
I have a MasterPage where I use the menu control. Clicking a menu item loads a new content page. That part works fine.
I would like to use staticselected style to change the look of the selected menu item. However, when the new content page loads, the staticselectedsyle formatting does not work.
On content page (Login.aspx), I got Uesr Type. For Admin type only, I need to show the above bold menu item. No problem for getting User Type as "Admin". Just problem is that, how to visible/in-visible or enabled/disabled above bold text menu item?
but I've tried everything I could think of and am at the end of my rope. I've got a page (faithfamilychurch.com/v2aspx/Default.aspx) that I am trying to get the flyout menu and flyout quicklinks at the top to come out over the contentPage content. I've set the z-index of each to much higher values than the content page, but still nothing. I've tried the tactic of changing the contentPage z-index to -1, but there is some master page content that needs to appear behind the contentPlaceHolder. Code below.
I'm using this wdCalendar code I found to add a Google calendar like calendar to my application. It uses mostly JQuery to work. Anyways, I notice when I use a pull down menu from the master page, the content page is blocking it (see attached image).
I am writing a web application which consists of a master page (header / menus) which does not change and content pages. When I do something like click on a button it causes a post back which is correct but this redraws the whole screen and becomes annoying because every post back and the whole screen flickers.
<ul class="menu"> <li class="first" runat="server" id="Li2"> <a runat="server" id="A1" href="../NewEntry.aspx">Create a New Entry</a> </li> </ul> when i go to content page ("NewEntry.aspx") i want the link name to be changed to "Update Entry" <ul class="menu"> <li class="first" runat="server" id="Li2"> <a runat="server" id="A1" href="../UpdateEntry.aspx">Update Entry</a> </li> </ul>
Is there a convenient way to change the style of a menu item in an MVC master page? I want to show which menu item is currently being active. So far, the only way I could think of was a brute force way, to duplicate the menu in multiple master pages, and mark one as selected:
i have a page called a1.aspx, with the Masterpagefile = a1_master.master. Now the master page has its own divs and images for design purposes. I want a way where when i load a1.aspx, certain chosen 's and images should be hidden(visible=false). how can i do this? how can i change the visibility of a div or an image in the master page from the content page?
I know I'm probably doing this wrong, but is this possible? I want to change a parameter of that control. It says 'inaccessible due to protection level'.
SO I download jqcalendar to include in my application as a starting point for a calendar (it is basically like Google calendar using JQuery/ASP.NET). I notice however when I click on a menu item on the master page, it shows up behind the content on the content page, as you can see here looking at the Maintenance menu:
I figure it has something to do with how the JQuery is rendering the page, but honestly not sure how to fix it. Here is the Jquery and HTML for the page:
I have a master page and 5 content pages. I created another master page and want 2 of the content pages, which were under master1.master to master2.master.
For example, if the content page is called myhome.aspx, previously i had:
[Code]....
But the content page is still refering the Master1.master only..
How to change the content page to another master page.
I have a ASP.NET content page where the master page is set dynamically. Both master pages contain a print button and an associated event handler for the click event of the button. Unfortunately I receive a run-time error when I attempt to dynamically access the event from the master page that was not initially assigned. Below are code snippets:
Page_Load(): Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Dim strPageTitle As String = "Evaluator Data Form - Instructions" If Page.MasterPageFile.Contains("masEvaluators.master") Then Dim mp As Evaluators_masEvaluators = CType(Me.Master, Evaluators_masEvaluators)
[code]....
which produces the following error when I load the page and reference the "masStaff.master" master page:
System.InvalidCastException: Unable to cast object of type 'ASP.staff_masstaff_master' to type 'Evaluators_masEvaluators'. at Evaluators_EDF_Instructions.Page_Load....
I can solve the problem by adding a print button to the content page, but that defeats the purpose of using a master page.
I'm trying to create an asp menu for a website. The site will have 2 levels of user Master users (which will have more options) and Sub users which will have limited menu options.
I was wonder does anyone knows if a way to hide menu items? I've tried google but I can't really find much.
Here's the Asp code
[Code]....
I have worked out how to hide the whole menu when the user is not logged in
My project has the following repeater menu shown on the Master Page. I need this menu to remain hidden until the user logs in. How do I access from content page?
I have a master page with links to other pages in the site. Those links use tilde paths (like "~/dir1/page2.aspx"). On most of the pages in the site that use this master page, there is no problem. The problem only seems to be on a few pages that use the master page, the links are VERY wrong, it tries to use the ~ as part of the link (so they are[URL]. It's as if it is treating the tilde as a literal under certain
I have an asp:Menu control on a master page that is reading its menu items from a web.sitemap file via a SiteMapDataSource. When I click on a menu, the new page loads which uses the same master page, but the ASP:Menu vanishes. I have put some plain text next to the menu for testing, this appears on the new page but the menu does not.Does anyone know how to get the asp:Menu to remain visible on the page?
Can I ask what this error refers to, (I have had it twice now over the last couple of days and then it goes away):
System.Web.HttpException: Content controls are allowed only in content page that references a master page.
This is followed by Stack Trace:
[HttpException (0x80004005): Content controls are allowed only in content page that references a master page.] System.Web.UI.MasterPage.CreateMaster(TemplateControl owner, HttpContext context, VirtualPath masterPageFile, IDictionary contentTemplateCollection) +9744256 System.Web.UI.Page.get_Master() +55 System.Web.UI.Page.ApplyMasterPage() +14 System.Web.UI.Page.PerformPreInit() +51 System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) +1104
I am not using any Content Place Holder or Master Page (does the error refer to the Site.Master file because while I can see it in. Solution Explorer, I never use it. All of my aspx files look like this along the top with no reference to Site.Master:
I have a master page setup that is used throughout my site that is basically a header with a menu. I recently added a textbox and a button to this master page which is to be a quick search box that is available anywhere in the site. When a user enters text into the search box and hits the button, I need to load the actual content page which is used to search and show search results (which also uses this same master page), and have the text entered available so the search can be triggered automatically. Again, this search text box and button is now in my master page so it could be triggered from anywhere in the app... it serves as a convenient way to do a basic search from anywhere in my app, without having to first navigate to the actual 'search page' that already exists. You can also navigate to the actual search page, which uses the same master page, where there is many more search options.I'm thrown off by the master page arrangement, which I have not used until this project. What do I do?
I am using Master page and Content page combination. But how can i access <body> tag and it's event (onload, onunload) of Master page in .aspx page that is not a content page.
I have a master page homeMaster.aspx and many content pages. However the situation is I have few .html pages. Now when a user clicks on a link the html page should get loaded.inside the master page. The problem is these are .html and not content page with .aspx.
