Web Forms :: Large File Upload Control - Saving File In Small Chunks

Nov 28, 2009

I know there are a ton of packages already made to get around the problem with uploading very large files. I am needing this functionality on one of my new projects but this time, instead of using something like NeatUpload or ASPUpload, I want to creat my own. I have not been able to find any info on doing this yourself, only links to pre made packages. Can anyone provide me with any info to get me started. Specifically how to handle saving the file in small chunks to a /temp/.

How To Display Small Calendar As A Link That Opens Large Calendar To Pick A Date.

Dec 12, 2008

I have some users who prefer not to use a calendar to enter a date, and some who do like it. To try and reach a happy medium, I want to figure out how to display a small calendar image, that when clicked, opens up the larger calendar to chose a date from. This way, those who do not like the look of the calendar will only see a tiny image and not the whole calendar.

Casting To Int32 Vs Converting To Int32?

Dec 15, 2010

Sometimes Convert.ToInt32(object) will work and other times (Int32)object will work. How do you know which to use? I usually try one and if it doesn't work use the other but I'm sure that's not the best approach.

WCF / ASMX :: Uploading Large Files Via Web Service | HTTP Error 413 - Request Entity Too Large?

Dec 6, 2007

I am trying to implement a Web Service, which accepts a binary file as a byte array for one of its parameters. It's workings are based on this article:

the size of the file can be significant as the types of files being uploaded through the service are MP4 Video files. The service works on my WinXP SP2 localhost, but when I implement it onto a 2003 Server and try to consume the service, I get the following error back from the web service: The request failed with HTTP status 413: Request Entity Too Large.

I do a little searching around and find a few articles indicating that I need to adjust my

"MaxReadAheadLength" property in IIS. A good example of one of those articles is here:

The suggestion from the article is to execute the following command on the web server:
cscript adsutil.vbs set w3svc/1/uploadreadaheadsize 204800

FYI, the adsutil.vbs is in your IIS's AdminScripts directory. I'm guessing that the /1/ part of the command is the IIS Site ID... I ran this command on the web server, using the exact command verbatim as well as replacing it w/ the web service's site Id so that the command looked something like this instead:

cscript adsutil.vbs set w3svc/1992883476/uploadreadaheadsize 204800

I still get the same stinkin' error. Also, just so anyone replying doesn't have to suggest it, I have the following in the Web.Config for the web service already:

<httpRuntime maxRequestLength="1024000" executionTimeout="3600" useFullyQualifiedRedirectUrl="true" />

The only other thing I can think of is that I need to restart IIS for the changes to take effect, but the culprit service is running on a fairly high-traffic server that I can't really do this until late-night.Also, when I was first researching this project, I found the original article as well as another article doing the same thing w/ WSE 3.0. That article is located below, but the first solution looked simpler, which is usually better, but only if it works As Albert Einstein said, "Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler."
The WSE 3.0 approach definitely looked more complicated, but if it's what I need to do to get the job done, then so be it...

I may have to go down this route if I can't get what I have in place fixed, but I really don't want to go there considering a deadline is looming over my head as of right now. We are in the "implementation" and just now running across the error.

Oh, one other interesting note... I have a form using a file upload control on the same website that the webservice is running. I can use the upload form with a large video with no problem,

Databinding Int32 To MaskedEditExtender Enabled TextBox?

Mar 9, 2010

I have a master/detail scheme for editing an asp:GridView using an asp:DetailsView. One of my fields is for a phone number of type int64 (always 10 digits). I would like this field to always be displayed as (###)###-####. My issue is the first digit in the phone number is always truncated for my edit item field which I used a MaskedEditExtender to achieve the formatting.

Here is my EditItemTemplate for the details view:

<cc1:MaskedEditExtender TargetControlID="edtPROJ_Leader_Phone" Mask="(999)999-9999" runat="server" ClearMaskOnLostFocus="false" ClipboardEnabled="true" MaskType="Number" />
<asp:TextBox ID="edtPROJ_Leader_Phone" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("PROJ_Leader_Phone") %>' ></asp:TextBox>

When my details view is displayed for editing, the text box displays(_23)456-7890 for the integer 1234567890. Also worth noting that if the property MaskType="Number" is removed, the textbox shows:

(234)567-890_. I would of course have the textbox show (123)-546-67890 after binding.

C# - What If DirectoryInfo.GetFiles().Length Exceeds Int32.MaxValue

Sep 22, 2010

the maximum number of files in a folder, I noticed that DirectoryInfo.GetFiles().Length is returning a System.In32, but the Maximum value of a Int32 is 2.147.483.647 (Int32.MaxValue) while on NTFS (an many other filesystems) the maximum number of files can go far beyond that.

on NTFS it is 4.294.967.295 single files in one folder (probably an Uint32)

Which leads me to the interesting question:

Is it possible to get the number of files in a folder on NTFS with the .NET framework, when the number of files exceeds the Int32.MaxValue, in an elegant and performing manner?

Can Html.Hidden store this property values?

How should I do this so the model still gets the IDictionary<Int32, String> values on the POST action?
