How can I set 'View Markup' (Source code) as the default when opening a content file in VS 2008? Currently it opens in Design mode which takes ages to load, and I never use it anyway.

View 6 RepliesI am working on a custom menu control, partially as a learning exercise, and I am having trouble with Visual Studio's IntelliSense support for it in markup view.The conventional ASP.NET menu allows you to place an arbitrary depth of <asp:MenuItem/> elements under the <Items>...</Items> element. I'm after the same behaviour for my menu.Mine unfortunately does not. VS insists on an empty tag:

Why is VS2010 reformatting my markup?For example, I created a table with two columns and about 15 rows in the markup window, with text controls ,etc, and when i came back to the page, it had reformatted all the code for ther table into a single line????
I try to indent my <TR> and <TD> for readablility but VS2010 is messing it all up!!! Why wont is just leave it how i format it?

If I right-click in my code-behind page, I get a very useful "View Designer" option, which is great because it saves having to find the .aspx page in the row of document tabs:Problem is, it always opens in Design Mode, not Source Mode, even though in my options, under HTML Designer, I have "Start pages in" set to "Source View" (though I know that usually applies to double-clicking the file in the project explorer):So is there a way of getting the context menu "View Designer" to always open in Source View?Second question: Is there an option/plug-in/hack to change the way VS manages tabs? Specifically, my gripe is it opens2 tabs for the same page (one for aspx and one for aspx.cs), adding to the mess of tabs, which is crazy. Instead of, say, using the buttons at the bottom... is this possible (a mockup):That would be handy. But View Design context menu opening in Source view would be better, if possible.

View 1 RepliesI am having an issue in VS 2010 trying to get even the default ASP.NET Web Application to run in Debug mode. I get the error:
"Unable to start program 'http://localhost:1443/Default.aspx'.
The system cannot find the file specified."
I am stumped here and cannot find anything out there with this error.
Is there any opportunity to change it in Visual Studio - not in IIS?
View 2 RepliesOne thing I do like about visual studio is the autoindent feature in the code behind where you can essentially close off the bracket of a loop or method or class and it'll automatically indent everything to make it consistent looking.

View 5 RepliesWhile developing and ASP.NET application in C# or VB using Visual Studio 2005/2008/2010 (Not a problem in 2003), if I create a new method automatically by double-clicking on a control in the designer or picking the new method in the code editor dropdowns (VB only), the access modifier is always protected instead of private. This is annoying because my developers have to manually change the method to private every time.

I'm using Visual Studio 2010 RTM and MS Sql Server 2008 R2 EXPRESS with Advanced Services.I create a new simple asp.net web site. When I click on asp.net configuration, it opens as expected.When I click on the Security Tab, I get the message, Unable to connect to SQL Server database.It will not create the default aspnetdb.mdf file.I can create a connection to the sql server in VS from the database explorer.I can connect to the sql server with sqlcmd as a trusted connection.I have even managed to verify the default instance of .SQLEXPRESS with named pipesusing the sc command and the MSSQL$instance name.I have verified that my machine dot config file for the 2.0 .net contains the proper info (without altering it).I've spent many nights trying to figure this one out.VS2008 and MS SQL Server EXPRESS 2008 worked.I noticed that the default asp.net web site uses a connection other than the default localsqlserverand the template automatically adds a login in the ui with role, membership & profile in the web config.
