Visual Studio :: Sharing Settings Between Projects / Console App And WPF App

Oct 20, 2010

I'm trying to share settings between two projects: a console app and a WPF app. The WPF app only exists to view and change those settings.

So in my console app, I wrote the following class...

[Code]....

My WPF app has a reference to the console application, so it can access the members of this Settings class.

So you'd think that if I use the WPF app to change one of these settings, then the next time I run the console app that changed setting would be available, but that is not the case. I'll change the masUserID setting from Bill to Ted, for example, but when I launch the console app it shows the setting is still Bill. If I run the WPF app, it's set to Ted.

Visual Studio :: PasswordRecovery Email Never Received

Jan 18, 2010

I'm working on a project in VS 2010 that was created in VS 2005 & 2008. I am using the standard PasswordRecovery control. When a goes through the password recovery process, everything appears to be normal. They enter their user name, have to answer the security question, then the "Your password has been sent to you" message is displayed. But, the email is never received. I have tried user names with several different email addresses, but no messages are received. What is a good way to debug this? Here are my settings:

In web.config:
<appSettings>
<!-- The following line is set up for Gmail (otherwise, value="localhost") -->
<add key="MailServer" value="[URL]"/>...

Membership Provider:
<providers><add name="CustomizedMembershipProvider" type="System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider" connectionStringName="SiteConnection" applicationName="/" enablePasswordRetrieval="false"
enablePasswordReset="true" requiresUniqueEmail="false" passwordFormat="Hashed" maxInvalidPasswordAttempts="5" minRequiredPasswordLength="6" minRequiredNonalphanumericCharacters="0"/></providers>...

Also, all of the other emails generated from my site are being sent and received successfully.

Configuration :: How To Deploy An Application Containing A Website And Console Application On IIS

Jul 20, 2010

I have an application which has a website and a project. The project contains an executable file which I'm trying to run as a process from the website's Global.asax file's application_start(). When I run this application from localhost, everything runs smoothly but when I deploy the application on IIS, application_start's code is executed and I can see the process name in the taskmanager but I cannot see the window which the console application normally starts in (when i run the application on localhost) and neither is the code executed.

Here's what I'm doing:

-- copied website and project in wwwroot
-- made a virtual directory of the website
-- when i run the website, I see the process in taskmanager but the code is not executed.

I am new to deployment and IIS, and would really appreciate I someone could tell me what i'm missing

Visual Studio :: How To Run An Application From The IDE

Jan 24, 2010

I am getting the above error whenever I attempt to run an application from the IDE. Any application. I have literally created a new asp.net "Hello World" app with absolutely nothing other than the aspx page, no code in the code-behind, and the only change to the web.config to enable debugging. The app errs immediately. Nothing is written to the event log.

The error is unique to asp.net, Visual Studio 2008, and has only recently started. I can run asp.net apps in VS 2005, and windows apps in 2008.The only thing I'm sure that I've done recently is installed SP1 for .net framework 3.5.

Visual Studio :: Open And Run Web Application?

Apr 13, 2010

I already have a web application running successfully develeoped using Classic ASP by the previous web pregrammer. Since I'm not familiar with Classic ASP, I tried running the source code in Visual Studio ASP.NET. However, I'm unable to run it (expliciltely denied). May I know whether there are special things to note when opeing and running a web application developed in Classic ASP in ASP.NET? The previous web application is connected to the school server, but I'm using my laptop's local host to run the application. Is that why I can't run the application? What are the steps needed to connect my ASP.NET application with the server.

Security - Console Application With .NET Authentication

Jan 5, 2011

Here's the situation, I've got a console application that needs to run once a day and make a few requests to pages that require authentication to view. The pages are hosted in a really basic ASP.Net Web Application.

So, I know that in order for the requests to go through successfully I have to authenticate with the server. So I've hooked up the console application to the ASP.Net Membership Provider I'm using for the web app and it successfully determines if a set of a credentials are valid. However, after calling Membership.ValidateUser() any requests I make just get the login screen. After doing some reading it seems that this is because I'm missing the important cookie information that persists my login or what-have-you.

I'm using a basic WebClient to make the requests and then reading/discarding the result.

So the meat of the question is this: Is there a simple way to validate the login information and hold on to it so that I can make the requests successfully, or is this the exact same case as the other two questions I found that require the WebClient to make a "manual" login request to the login.aspx page and try to hold on to the cookie from there?

The questions I'm referencing are:

Authenticating ASP.NET MVC user from a WPF application and Login to website and use cookie to get source for another page
