Visual Studio :: Built-in Web Server Not Seeing ASPX Changes?
Jun 29, 2010
When I right click an ASPX page and click "View in Browser" the VS built-in web server starts up fine. However, if I go back to VS and make changes to the ASPX page and then refresh the browser, the changes are not reflected.
In order to see the changes, I have to stop the running web server and click "View in Browser" again to restart it -- then I can see the changes.
What's going on here? What would cause the built-in server (Cassini) to not reflect updates made from within Visual Studio? I also tried using UltiDev Cassini and am getting the same problem -- the web server does not load changes made in VS until the web server is restarted...

I work in VS 2008. Whenver I add a server control(Label) and set it properties in aspx.vb and build the solution, I get the error "Label1 not declared". While analyzing this issue I noticed that the event handler statements for the Label1 where not added in the designer.asp.vb file. These statement would actually be added automatically when I drag and drop a control to my webpage.
I would also like to inform the scenario after which this problem came to me. I was working in VS 2008 , VS 2005 and VS 2003 in the same machine.Could this have caused the issue ?
Now each and everytime when I add a control, I am adding the "With Events" code in the designer page to make my build succesfull which makes me to spend more efforts.

How do I set the ASP.net application name for the built in IIS for VS 2005? I am setting up a new dev box with an existing application. It has all the users and roles already created so I just need to specify the correct Application name and everything should work. It seems to run off the directory name of the project by default. But that isn't working completly for me. The Application name in the database is '/budgetsite' But when I put the files in c:developmentudgetsite' the web server uses 'budgetsite' as the Application Name. I am trying to avoid installing IIS on this box.

I created an asp.net application, and it worked on my local PC. I was using Visual Web Developer 2010 beta.
Then I uploaded almost every file (not the sln and suo files) to my shared-host unix website. This Unix website is supposed to support asp.net.
But I got this error:
Server error in application. Could not load file or assembly 'dave' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded Does this mean my version of the net.framework is too advanced? Or maybe the version of Visual Web Developer? Or some other reason?

The system cannot find the file specified."
I am stumped here and cannot find anything out there with this error.

I've searched but does Visual Studio 2008 have a setting for C# where it will autoformat/beautify my code as I write it? There is a setting for VB.NET called "prettify". I've also searched the archives already and found a macro to execute this on save and I know I can drag and drop it onto the toolbar but I want it to work without my doing ANYTHING for both ASPX and CS files.
Is this possible via built-in setting, modification, or available from an add on?

I just inherited a 2005 VS web project, and am trying to get it running locally. Upon running, I got an error "The following module was built either with optimizations enables or with debug information".
Investigation suggested I delete all files in the BIN directory and rebuild. I tried that, but no DLL's are being output by the project and it completely fails to load.

I have a problem within a project in Visual Web Developer. The program will not allow me to open the aspx.vb file associated with an aspx file when I choose the "View Code" option. The aspx.vb file exists; however the program is prevented from loading it and seeing it in Solutions Explorer.
The problem may be related to how the entire project is loaded -- loading it as a project vs. as a website. When I load it as a project, I have compilation errors that do not exist otherwise, but can see the aspx.vb files. When it is loaded as a website, I can't open the aspx.vb files as described above.

I use DevExpress and have a lot of templates which I use in my Web Application - popup windows with certain styles, menus, rounded panels so on. Of course, I don't want to type the same markup hundred times but also don't want to find this markup in whole application in order to paste it again. I use snippets in code-behind for these purposes. But what about markup?I downloaded it but I see only code-behind refactoring and still can't find how can I use something like snippets in aspx page.

My questions:
How to do it in file .aspx? #region seems working only in .cs file. organize better my code both for .aspx and .cs file? Do you know the keyboard shortcuts to expand or collapse all my region in my code?

I'm used to working with VS 2008 and toggling bookmarks in aspx pages was very useful, however in VS 2010 I'm unable to toggle bookmarks using the CTRL + K + K or the actual "Toggle bookmark" button from the bookmarks tool. Is there an option to enable this on the ASPX page, it works everywhere else though.

I inherited a web site which contains many stand-alone aspx pages (with the .NET code in the page rather than in a code-behind file). I'm wondering how to debug these pages; I cannot set breakpoints in them (I can set breakpoints in the code files on the site without issue). I'm using Visual Studio 2008.
