I'm trying create unit testing for an existing website project (not web application project). I cannot access my under test classes unless I use accessor. However, if I use accessor, I have problem to initiate an object with passing arguments. I only want to create unit tetsing for App_Code. After searching web, and I found that I'd better to create a web application project using my current existing website project. From solution explorer, add new project ->using existing website. My questions is: what impact will have for my current website to create the new project? Should I just convert my current website to web application? If do that, will it cuase problems on my website? I am new on asp.net, still learning..

For methods that do calculations or have return types this works great.What would some suggested ways to perform (any is this even necessary) testing on methods that would normally have no return type, such as a 'Delete' method?Example:

i created a unit test project with the built-in unit testing from vs 2008. i noticed that when running a unit test and in particular when the class i am testing attempts to set a value from the app.config file using the configurationsettings, the configuration settings object always has 0 keys...and thus my value i am trying to use is always null...is there anything about the unit testing structure that would return null values from the app config when i know the keys are there...the existing program uses those keys for email addresses and such already.

I have Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition- Version 3.5 SP1 (9.0.30729.1 SP).I've noticed when working through examples they show a window, Create Unit Test Project, but that this window never appears when I follow their steps.Do I need to go somewhere and check a box so the program will give me this window?Does this mean VS2008 didn't install correctly?

i have a .NET 3.5 solution with an asp.net(web site) project with fluentnhibernate and it's test project(class library project).i've referenced the asp.net project in the test project and with all fluentnhibernate/nhibenate dlls.
What i fail to comprehend is that, on a run of a webform (hit from browser) let's say Test.aspx, building of schema is successfull and i could see the tables in my database.
here is the method i call on Test.aspx.cs
[code]....
So from my comment the NullReferenceException happens when accessing the connectionstring. I don't have the explanation on why that happens.

I recently updated my VS2010 website project from .NET 3.5 to 4.0. Everything was working fine in the website project. Today I decided to migrate the website to a web application project as I have learned this is the best way to work in .NET. I split out all my class files into a separate class library and copied all my other content into my new project. Then I updated all the references and web.config.
When I build the class library, everything works great. The problem is happening when I try to build/debug the web application project. It is acting like all the controls are missing and it is also throwing a bunch of compile errors about the public properties I have in my master pages.
Control errors: "The name 'INSERT CONTROL NAME HERE' does not exist in the current context"
Master page errors:'System.Web.UI.MasterPage' does not contain a definition....
It is giving these errors for every single control and master page property in my entire solution.I notice when I add a new web.form to this project, it also adds a filename.aspx.designer.cs file in addition to the .aspx and .aspx.cs file. My existing files do not have these extra files since they were created in a different .NET version.
UPDATE: It seems I was missing the step where I need to right click on the new application folder and select "Convert to web application". I just did that and it seems to be a little bit better...
Now it is choking on Literals that are inside single quotes:
<div class='<asp:Literal ID="CssClassLiteral" runat="server"></asp:Literal>'>
It doesn't see this literal when it does the conversion... Is the above valid code or should I implement that functionality another way?

I've made a simple website in ASP.NET MVC Framework with users, articles etc., and images to users profiles. There is a simple static class for image manipulation (resizing, cropping and saving images on hard drive), placed in "Helper" directory. I wonder what to do with the code to preserve MVC principles and make whole website more unit testing friendly.

Taken from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd410597(VS.100).aspx ...
If you are using the Standard or Express editions of Visual Studio, the Create Unit Test Project dialog box is not displayed. Instead, the new MVC application project is generated without a test project.

I was not able to do unit testing for our existing web site project. I converted the web site project to a web application project. I did some unit testing and changes on the converted web application project. However, my co-worker was doing UI testing on the web site project. We need put UI testing and unit testing to the web application project. Is it possible to move the UI testing code that my co-worker did to the web application project I am working? If so, how do you do it?

Recently for a class to implement unit test for one of its private methods I used PrivateObject by creating private accessor instead of refelection, to which i received a code review comment as below
"My main concern with Private Object is the use of object[] in constructor. It replaces strong typing enforced by compiler with JavaScript-style run-time error detection.Consequently , personally, I would not recommend it."
Comments above confused me beacuse as per my understanding reflection also needs the object[] to invoke any method.

I have VS 2008 Professional Edition.....I want to test a function like this:
public int getIdByName(string name)
{
var item=from x in DATAB
where x.name=name
select x.id;
.
.
return idValue;
}
now I test end I have:
[TestMethod()]
public getIdByNameTest()
{
string name="Bob"
int expected = 1;
int actual;
actual = ClassGET.getIdByName(name);
Assert.AreEqual(expected, actual);
Assert.Inconclusive("Verify the correctness of this test method.");
}
The error in "test run" is:
Failed ......[Class]....... Test method threw exception: System.ArgumentException: The specified named connection is either not found in the configuration that is not for use with the EntityClient provider or thought is invalid

this seems to be a problem only on my new PC, not my prior PC or my coworkers PCs. But, as far as I know, I have installed VS2005 the same way, including the VS80-KB915364-X86-ENU.exe and WebApplicationProjectSetup.msi additions.
I have a VS2005 Solution called 'Intranet' made up of several web projects. One of those web projects is also called 'Intranet'. All of the projects should load as Web Application Projects, which they did on my prior PC.
Now, the 'Intranet' project seems to be opening as a Web Site project. The name of the project in the solution now shows as "C:...Intranet" instead of just "Intranet" and is not recognized as being part of the SourceSafe project(no lock icon shows). If I right-click this project, "Build Web Site" is one option.

i have a project which runs fine when I build it and run it. But when I add an web deployment project to the same, it throws out a "server block is not well formed" error in Default.aspx page
through googling i found out that it may have something to do with page/server directives. but i cant figue out what is wrong with this code.
<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="KnowledgeBase.Web.UI._Default" %>

I have been asked to do some work on a website. I downloaded all of the files and chose "open website" in Visual Studio. In the picture below you can see the file structure. When I run the project I get some errors such as "could not load type 'AdminSite.Partner.Listing" or "file project/adminmaster.master does not exist'. Now, those files are indeed there. I have noticed that within the Admin folder and the Home folder there are compiled DLLs in the bin folders. Also, there are project files within each of those folders. I've tried opening the project files and the projects only encompass the files within each of the Admin and Home directories respectively. I'm just wondering what the best way is to set up this solution. As I've done so far, by opening it as a web site, why is it not seeing the DLLs in the bin folders when I run it? Do I need to reference them somehow?
