Mar 5, 2010I noticed when creating a reference that two of the columns in the dialog box under the .Net tab have Version and Runtime.
I'm assuming that Version is the version of the .Net Framework that a given namespace was introduced with.
I'm not sure I understand what the runtime is though. I originally thought it was for the version of ASP.net but now I question that. If look at two namespaces that were introduced with two different Versions they can have the same run time. This contradicts my original conclusion.
how these relate to each other and correct any misunderstandings I my have with this?
Visual Studio :: ToolBox Do Not Show Newly Added Controls After Restart?
Nov 18, 2010Recently i am working in VS2008 installed in windows xp SP2. In the toolbox i added a new tab and added some third party controls in the toolbox, by using "Choose Item" dialog.. I also added Ajax ToolKit to the tool box. It worked fine and i could drag n drop controls.
But then if i restart VS2008, all the tabs i created and controls in it goes off and disappears ncluding Ajax Toolkit. Each time i restart it, I have to have add those controls newly?
Is this a Bug?? or Is there any solution for this?

I've gotten my application to publish (to a .zip file) but it points to the physical directory on my hard drive. This obviously will not work on the server.

May 6, 2010I have a C# web application that dynamically adds user controls to the default page for whatever "mode" the application is in. The problem is that it is not persisting these across postbacks. How do I persist these across postbacks and keep the content of the controls that are in the user control?
For instance, say I have a user control that creates a new tour record. The user clicks on the Tour item from the menu on the default page, it dynamically loads the tours user control. The user then fills out the form in the tours user control and clicks save. This is where the problem happens. When the postback occurs, the web application has no idea that the new tours user control was ever loaded. So, no save takes place because the Save button's click event never even gets fired.

Jan 24, 2010I am getting the above error whenever I attempt to run an application from the IDE. Any application. I have literally created a new asp.net "Hello World" app with absolutely nothing other than the aspx page, no code in the code-behind, and the only change to the web.config to enable debugging. The app errs immediately. Nothing is written to the event log.
The error is unique to asp.net, Visual Studio 2008, and has only recently started. I can run asp.net apps in VS 2005, and windows apps in 2008.The only thing I'm sure that I've done recently is installed SP1 for .net framework 3.5.

Since I'm not familiar with Classic ASP, I tried running the source code in Visual Studio ASP.NET. However, I'm unable to run it (expliciltely denied). May I know whether there are special things to note when opeing and running a web application developed in Classic ASP in ASP.NET? The previous web application is connected to the school server, but I'm using my laptop's local host to run the application. Is that why I can't run the application? Jul 6, 2010I'm about to start a new module in my existing web application project (already completed 3 modules), due to more data entry and volume of data handling my PM informed me to go this module on windows application (vb.net), but i'm requesting him to go with web application since i'm much familiar in web applcation and all my completed module on web.
But he is thinking on performance part too, if i get some idea / suggestion on the same so that i can clear and i will go with either option.
The module is Service Billing with LPO Control, Billing, Proforma, eBilling, eApproval, online billing etc.
Visual Studio - Using ClickOnce (or Similar) For Application
Sep 2, 2010I'm looking for a way to providing users (administrators) of a web application to automatically (meaning it's opt-in to update, but the installation should be automatic when started) update said web application when new versions are released.
The reason why I want an automatic approach is that I want the users to be able to update the web application while it's running remotely, without having to gain physical access to the machine (including RDP).
I could of course write my own code for this, but I would prefer to use something like ClickOnce that has been around for a while. Is it possible to use ClickOnce for this?
Or is there an alternative for ASP.NET applications that I have not been able to find?
It is important that it's the user that does the update and not me, so I don't think WebDeployment is the way to go, but I'm willing to listen to scenarios where this would work.
The users are not system administrators, so I want this to be as fool proof as possible.
I'm using Visual Studio 2010, ASP.NET 2.0 (.NET 3.5). If a solution requires switching to version 4, this is possible, but not preferred.
Is It Possible To Debug A Web Application That's Not Started From Within Visual Studio
Aug 13, 2010The default ASP.NET web server that launches from within Visual Studio (Casini) is a little buggy on my development machine, so I like to publish to a local IIS instance on my dev machine and look at the web application there. However, I'm not automatically in "Debug Mode" when I launch the application this way.
I know that VS 2010 has an "Attach to Process" debug feature, but I'm not sure exactly how to use it. What do I need to do to be able to debug a local IIS ASP.NET web application from within Visual Studio? Specifically:
What settings do I need to change in the configuration of my web application?
What "Package/Publish Settings" do I need to change?
Is there anything I need to change in IIS?
Is there anything special I need to do in the "Attach to Process" screen?
Background Information: I'm running Visual Studio 2010 on Windows XP SP3 with IIS 5.1 and .NET 4.0.
Additional Information:
I should add that I've tried attaching to aspnet_wp.exe, but when I go to a page that I know has a breakpoint in it, I get the following message when I hover over the "open circle" breakpoint:
The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document.

Jan 19, 2010I have a web application project that I have been working on for a long time now (about 7-8 months of work). I have been recently asked to convert it to web site project as boss wants the pages to be able to be updated independently instead of re-submitting the DLLs in BIN folder every time.
Is there a conventional step-by-step procedure to follow in order to do such conversion? Or create a web site project, copy all files, and hope that you will get less than 1000 errors?
