View 1 RepliesIt happens frequently when I try to copy & paste code inside VS 2010 with following message:
insufficient available memory to meet the expected demands of an operation at this time, possibly due to virtual address space fragmentation. Please try later.
and I check the memory usage with taskmanager on my computer. It is fine.
In order fix it, I need to close VS 2010 and restart again.
If I have the following in an ASP.NET Web Form:
<asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="tbxUser"/>
and I copy and paste that line in the same page, I usually get the following:
<asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="TextBox1"/>
Obviously, nobody is going to name their controls in that way (if you don't want to name a textbox, simply don't asign an ID to it), and it's not nice having to change the ids of pasted controls. The same happens if I copy a control without an explicit ID, VS simply generates one for me. Is there any way of preventing VS from autogenerating IDs when I copy-paste ASP.NET code?
I have a site that was created with VWD2005. I tried to open the solution with VS 2008. This prompted me to convert it which I did. Now when I look at the project in the Solution Explorer in VS 2008, I see all of the files but they are now with in a folder named "2" that's within a folder named "back up". I also see another folder with in the solution that's named _UpgradeReport_Files.
The files for my project that are with in the folder "2" that is with in the folder "back up" are actually in the back up folder for my project in the Visual Studio 2005 folder with in My Documents. I assume this is because I chose the "create back" up option when doing the conversion. I don't understand why these files and this project aren't in the project directory with in the VS2008 folder with in My Documents.
I want all of my files for this project to be in the projects folder with in the Visual Studio 2008 folder in My documents, the same as if I had created this project in Visual Studio 2008 originally. But the conversion doesn't seem to have done this. Instead I seem to be using a solution/project that references the original files with in the back up folder as mentioned above.
Can I just create a new project in VS 2008 and paste these files into it? Will this work? I'm not sure if it will because the original one was created in VWD 2005 which I think uses the .net framework 2.0. My Visual Studio 2008 uses version 3.5 Sp1 of the .NET framework.
I'm trying to copy-paste minified JavaScript code from one .js file to another. But when I paste the code, it auto-formats... (line-breaks and indentation is added automatically)...But I didn't want that to happen. How do I solve this problem?
View 3 RepliesI am looking for a way to display an iframe code part in my website. Also, I am looking for a component to make it easy to copy/paste this iframe code part.
View 3 RepliesI'm missing a the code browser when I create pages that have the code not placed in a seperate file. For pages with .asp.vb files I get the browser correctly.
I think it's called a code browser but just in case it's not I mean the dropdown that shows Page Events, Buttons and other controls that can be selected along with their events.
How do I turn on those dropdowns for pages with code behind that uses <script> tags in the actual .aspx page?
Included (Showing page events just under the tab):
Missing
I find myself doing a ton of jquery these days so I started to abstract out some of the common things I do into snippets. I look forward to sharing these with the community, but i'm running into an issue right now. The literals in snippets are defined by adding dollar signs ($) around the name of the literal to delimite where the value you would like to provide will go. This is difficult because jQuery uses the dollar sign notation in order to use a lot of it's functionality. Does anyone know the escape sequence for snippets so I am able to use the dollar sign, and have my snippets still function?
View 7 RepliesI use DevExpress and have a lot of templates which I use in my Web Application - popup windows with certain styles, menus, rounded panels so on. Of course, I don't want to type the same markup hundred times but also don't want to find this markup in whole application in order to paste it again. I use snippets in code-behind for these purposes. But what about markup?I downloaded it but I see only code-behind refactoring and still can't find how can I use something like snippets in aspx page.
View 7 Repliescan Visual Studio 2008 be All-In-One tool to integrate source code continuously from team members, build, unit test?
Having used Visual Studio Team Edition 2005, unit testing each method within VS itself. I strongly believe that it is feasible to add-on tools. Example ankhsvn tool to use SVN from Visual studio [URL]
In my investigating i have come across number of tools(shown below) to use with Visual Studio 2008 professional
Development tool:- Visual Studio 2008 professional using Subversion as source control tool. Continuous Integration:- Hudson or Cruise control Build tool:- NAnt Testing:- NUnit, Selinium As Visual Studio 2008 can be used for unit testing I think NUnit is out of consideration.
In the same way i would like to have any other tools/add-ons to Visual studio to implement continuous integration, building and unit testing. This process should be automated such a way source code between team members is continuously integrated, built and unit testing is done as configured.
Objective is to use few number of tools as add-on to Visual Studio or achieve most from Visual studio itself (example unit testing). Visual Studio should be all in one tool.
I am aware that Team Foundation Server best suits my requirement, but it is out of scope due to its cost.
I have an aspx page which retrieves messages from a database. One message is an instruction to the user to copy some xml from a file. I'm trying to tell the user that they need to copy the code lying between "<?xml" and "</reports>".
The problem is that when the message is displayed to the user the line containing the quoted code is missing. It appears that the page is taking "<?xml" and "</reports>" as instructions to the page and trying to action the tags. I just want to display these characters on the my page. how I can get these code snippets to display?
I have an asp:DataGrid with templated columns. Here's one of those columns:
<asp:TemplateColumn>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:LinkButton ID="btnDetails"
Runat="server"
CommandName="details"
Text="Details"
Font-Size="0.8em"
CommandArgument='a=<%# Eval("a")%>&b=<%# Eval("b")%>' />
<...>
When the command fires, the CommandArgument comes back unevaluated - it is the string a=<%# Eval("a")%>&b=<%# Eval("b")%>, not a=5&b=6 as I want. What's wrong with how I'm doing this?
In this example ... Im getting error once im logged in no issue ... after that i tryed another login id the previous id details shown in that Lable ...
The exact place for that error ...
FaceBookConnect.API_Key = "app key"; FaceBookConnect.API_Secret = "app secret code";
if (!IsPostBack) { if (Request.QueryString["error"] == "access_denied")
{ ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "alert", "alert('User has denied access.')", true); return; }
string code = Request.QueryString["code"]; // here code takes Null for 2nd login if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(code))
{ string data = FaceBookConnect.Fetch(code, "me"); Facebooklogin faceBookUser = new JavaScriptSerializer().Deserialize<Facebooklogin>(data); faceBookUser.PictureUrl = string.Format("https://graph.facebook.com/{0}/picture", faceBookUser.Id);
i can't debug the code line by line code, i have break point in form load event, but it skipthe breakpoint , can't able to debug.
View 6 RepliesIs there any tool for Visual Studio 2008 which can reformat ASPX code to make it more presentable (eg insert line breaks, format the lines so they wrap when necessary, etc)?
View 5 RepliesI'm new to the forum and to ASP.NET. Is there a way to obfuscate code with VWD?
I read about Dotfuscator but it appears it's only available for Visual Studio. I searched the forum but did not see a solution fro VWD.
suddenly while working i thought can i work without Visual Studio(work-coding) .Ofcourse i will have to follow naming conventions,file extensions, file storage location and all that, but all that i want to do manually.No help from any IDE.
View 5 Repliesi am new to ASP.NET development, and i am a little bit curious on the asp.net code behind mechanism.
i know why we use it but what i would like to know is:
the relation between aspx page and the code behind who does the linking between these two separate files ?
how does it work?
how an element created in aspx page can be accessed directly from code behind ?
I am really worried about this. I recently got hold on VS 2010. I had been working on a control when my VS 2010 crashed upon me. I terminated all of the applications that might be slowing down VS. To my horror when I restarted VS I had lost all of the coding and classes written within that control's code behind file which was SearchFilter.ascx.cs. IT shows the size of this file as 0KB. There nothing in it now. Does any one out there know how can I recover my file, it had almost over 700 lines of code. I would be really very grateful to you people out there.
View 5 RepliesI am getting the following error when I try to establish ftp remote connection using the 'copy web site' feature on visual studio 2005.
unable to open the web 'ftp://209.*.*.*/httpdocs'. The computer is disconnected from the network.
Why can't I connect to the remote site on visual studio 2005? I can do the same thing on Dreamweaver with no problem. I can ping the IP successfully. I can open the ftp URL on a web browser with no problem.
I'm going thru an asp.net 4 book, and I'm at a part about classes and their properties and functions. But up to now, all the examples involve a web_site, with controls, code_behind files, CSS, etc. But, I get to places where I don't understand the examples, so I look out on the web for other resources. For example, I found the code below to demonstrate the "ToString" function. My problem is, I'm not sure know how to test a little piece of code like this. Can't I just open up an application or project or something, paste this in and run it?
Module Module1
Class Perl
Dim _a As Integer
Dim _b As Integer
Public Sub New(ByVal a As Integer, ByVal b As Integer)
_a = a
_b = b
End Sub
Public Overrides Function ToString() As String
Return String.Format("[{0}, {1}]", _a, _b)
End Function
End Class
Sub Main()
Dim p As Perl = New Perl(2, 3)
Console.WriteLine(p)
End Sub
End Module
Im trying to do this
[Code]....
But it doesnt like
[Code]....
Won't work for me since this is a mobile application.
I am a quite new to web development and I am trying to do some small form updates without causing a postback. For example making a control visible when a drop down list is changed.
I have so far come across some features that achieve this like the RequiredFieldValidator inside an update panels. However, these are specific to a single task.
What are my options to achieve these client side updates in Visual Studio? At the moment I don't know any JavaScript, so I would prefer another solution if it exists.
I am using code analysis tool of VS 2010..two things that i have noticed was not provided:
Proper casing of variable,method and properties names xml comments for each method,event and other activities
I had been using Visual studio 2010 beta 1. When I open it now, I get a notice that I have to register to continue to use it. So I click the button that says 'register now'. I fill out the form (name, email, etc.), but instead of giving my registration code, the system opens up [URL]. How do I get my registration code?
