I am working with a .net 2.0 asmx webservice (code below)I need to return 4 "items", which will be based on the success of failure of the webservice, and the actual XML imput itself.The Webservice needs to be asyncronous.I have included the code below, but am happy for someone to re-do it as it's been built up on tutorials and examples.At present, I don't believe the async is working, and the returns don't seem to be getting done.I have also built a test harness, and testing, which allows me to send some custom XML and then receive the response.

i work with visual studio 2005 and asp net 2.0 and i must to create a webservice who returns a xml as a string
this string must be use by an application java as i know ..
ok i can create the asmx and my web method who run a sql command BUT how i can return a xml as a string ?
Some strange problem have occured while developing application. Some WCF webservice returns object with date property.On client this web service is called using Jquery.ajax.Then result is parsed using json2.For date I simply use following expressions:
var reMsAjax = /^/Date((d|-|.*))[/|\]$/;
a = reMsAjax.exec(value);
if (a)
var b = a[1].split(/[-+,.]/);
return new Date(b[0] ? +b[0] : 0 - +b[1]);
unfortunatelly if browser timezone differs simple new Date with milliseconds not works.Time will be based on timezone.
We have a problem regarding webservices when it runs in https. it say's that the service is undefined. BUT when we try it in http it runs okay...

I have created web service and deployed on server after creating proxy server ..........
when i browse the URL used in proxy server from different computer on same network, it works fine..... but when i browse the same URL on computer on different network, it wont work.....
how do i call webservice from different network
I have a production web application that uses <authentication mode="Windows"/> I have added an .asmx page with a method in it. I'd like to test making calls to it from a separate client web app. When I do this I get the error: The request failed with HTTP status 401: Access Denied What do I need to do in my client app to access this webservice?
View 2 RepliesIn my ASP.net 3.5 application I'm calling an asmx webservice that is part of the application. Calling the webservice entends the user's session timeout, which is undesirable in this case.How can I call a webservice on my server without extending the session timeout? Is there a way in IIS to designate it as being outside of the session scope? (apologies if I'm using incorrect terminology) Can I designate a directory in the ASP.net web.config file as being outside the session?

Pinging back to a webservice in ajax from the client keeps the user's session alive, I don't want this to happen. More extensive summary For a website we're developing, we need the client to ping back (in js) to a webservice (ASMX) on the server (IIS7.5). This happens to let the server know that the user is still on the site, and hasn't browsed away to another site. This is as our customer wants to let users lock records, but if they browse away to other sites, then let other people take over those locked records. Perhaps the distinction between the client being on the site but inactive and on another site seems unimportant, but that's kinda irrelevant, I don't get to write the UI spec, I just have to make it work.
My problem is this, the ping stops the user from being timed out on the server through the standard forms authentication timeout mechanism. Not surprising as there is that 30 second ping in the background keeping the session alive. Even though we want to know if the user is still on the site, we want the normal forms authentication timeout mechanism to be honoured. I thought I might be able to fix this by removing the ASP.NET_SessionId and .ASPXAUTH cookies in the XMLHttpRequest that is the server ping, but I can't figure out how to do this. This is how my web service & method are defined:
[WebService(Namespace = "http://tempuri.org/")]
[WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo = WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)]
[ScriptService]
public class PingWS : WebService
{
[WebMethod]
public void SessionActive(string sessionID)
{
// does stuff here
}
This is how I'm calling it in js (request is over HTTPS, :
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "PingWS.asmx/SessionActive",
data: 'sessionID=' + aspSessionID + '}',
beforeSend: function (xhr) {
xhr.setRequestHeader('Cookie', '');
xhr.setRequestHeader('Cookie', 'ASP.NET_SessionId=aaa; .ASPXAUTH=bbb;');
},
dataType: "json"
});
I was trying with the setRequestHeader, but that just appends to the header rather than overwrites the header, and IIS is happy to ignore that junk I added. I'm thinking maybe I should be trying to do this at the server end, someone take PingWS.asmx out of the loop so that it doesn't keep the session active, but I'm not sure how to do this. Although the title of the question is focused on clearing the cookie in the header, I'd be super happy if anyone points out that I'm being really stupid and there is actually a much better way of trying to do what I'm doing.
I'm thinking at this stage maybe I need to add something to the webmethod that says how long this particular page has been inactive, and use that knowledge to timeout manually. That actually sounds pretty easy, so I think I'll do that for now. I'm still convinced that there must be an easy way to do what I originally wanted to do though. Update I'm thinking I'm pretty screwed in terms of cookie manipulation here as both the .ASPXAUTH and ASP.NETSessionId cookie are HttpOnly, which means the browser takes them out of your hands, you can't access them via the document.cookies object. So I would say that leaves me with:
Updating my SessionAlive webmethod to track each request so I can tell how long the user has been sitting idle on a page and timeout if needs be Marking the .asmx page somehow on the server end so that it's taken out of the normal authentication/session tracking flow I know how to do 1. so I'll start there but 2. seems much cleaner to me.
I have a piece of code written in 2 different ways, one a web service and another a WCF client which are trying to access an external 3rd party URL.
The same code when written as an exe works fine, i see my submissions on the 3rd party site, while the web code does not work.
I installed Fiddler to check traffic and to my surprise the web code works when Fiddler is capturing traffic, As soon as I stop Fiddler my code does not work.
For the web service code I get error: The remote name could not be resolved:
For the WCF client I get error: There was no endpoint listening at <<3rd party URL>> that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action.
Am quite sure now that this is because of some network and/or proxy on my corporate network, but not able to figure out what it can be.
I have just started with ajax, therefore I have no clear ideas jet.
I'm following HOW TO Call ASMX Web Services tutorial, but how you can suppose, something doesn't work properly.
I have created a web service (code below)
public class Customer
On my page I have a dropdown for country.
On my asmx service I want to get the value of the dropdownlist to filter the next input which will be state/providence.
My code on the asmx:
....
I want to add another clause to the WHERE statement to restrict Country = @Country so I will need to get that value to the web service.
Does anyone know of free webservice that returns a list in the form of JSON? I have searched many webservice sites but they all return xml. Geonames.org is not required.
View 3 RepliesI have datatable consist of 20 records and i want to bulk insert into sqlserver through the asmx webservice. Can anybody guide to me or provide Sample BusinessLogic and webservice code.
View 1 RepliesI understand that a treeview cannot expand/collapse without javascript. But is it possible to open the treeview in expanded form when javascript is disabled? Even if I cannot expand/collapse the nodes, at least I can click on the nodes that will display the data related to that node.
Similar to the treeview used in online auction sites, our treeview looks something like this: , where clicking on a link will redirect me, and clicking on the "+" will expand or collapse the node. The only difference would be that ours is databound.
Another developer is working on this and he tells me that this is not possible without javascript. This webform in particular works almost entirely without javascript, and I'd like the treeview to also work partially.
So I have a WebMethod that I call using jQuery. The method is supposed to return a unique URL to a image file created dynamicly.
The WebMethod is called in a for loop so anywhere from 1 to 50 calls gets fired async.
The problem is that the webservice seems to be using the same instance of the object, so that it returns the same value to a couple of the requests.
....
Shouldn't the WebMethod create a new instance of the class for each call, so that all values are stored individually in memory?

I have a webservice (ASMX) which I have tested locally using built-in VS web server. It works fine in the Dev environment, and there was no configuration of anything in IIS for this kind of webservice to work.
Today when I deployed my site on the live server, I got a 500 error when the webservice is being called. The website doesn't work, and unfortunately the client did not test this on staging (same server)
Here's the sample call to my service.
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: 'http://www.mydomain.com/services/someservice.asmx/MyMethod',
data: "someid=564",
dataType: "xml",
success: function(msg){
}
In Firebug, http://www.mydomain.com/services/someservice.asmx/MyMethod returns error 500 internal server.
I called the service using jQuery AJAX, the live server is Windows Server 2008 Standard.
if i have the web application with many pages like add order page, edit order page, and delete order page actually they also interact with the Sql Server 2008 and i also create web service page call Sales_Service.asmx. i know just i need to put something like query into Web Method in Sales_Service.asmx but i have a lot of queries, i don't know which query i should put into it and how the web page call the Sales_Services.asmx

View 1 RepliesI have spent a couple of days on this one. I have an ASP.NET website that has Linkbuttons on
the Default.aspx page.. I added a WebService to the Website because later on the WebService will
subscribe to a Provider(Feed) of News, Sports and Weather and things like that. So when a Linkbutton
on the Default.aspx page is clicked it will connect to the link in the WebService which will load the News,
Sports or Weather onto the Default.aspx web page.
The problem is I can't get the LinkButton to execute the Link in the WebService. The link will call the page up
to where you see all of the Web References. But then if you want to execute one of those references you
have to click its link and the Invoke button that will follow. My questioh is how can the link on my Default.aspx
page execute the link in the WebService. Now I changed the LinkButton into an <a href> but I still can't execute
the link in the WebServices. I always use www.Microsoft.com as the link when testing and I wasn't sure about the return type
so I put "void" for an HTTPRequest, so below is the link from the Default.aspx web page and below that is he asmx file:
