I'm just learning MS ajax and am having problems getting a relatively simple test to work. I'm attempting to call a web service (of the .asmx variety) to return a very simple 3-column table to render in a dataView in an .aspx page. I've successfully created a working service and can by stepping through the service code it's getting the data correctly. The problem I'm having is that it stops with an exception in MicrosoftAjaxDebug.js on this line:
[Code]....
where my user_table contains 3 columns: user_name, user_key, user_ID. Real simple.My test.aspx page to get this data looks like this:
[Code]....
One more thing, I'm a little confused between the two downloads I've found, "MicrosoftAjaxLibrary_Preview6.zip" and "AspNetAjaxLibraryBeta0911.zip". From what I can tell, the latter contains all the old Ajax toolkit gadgets as well as the MS Ajax scripts. Is the MS Ajax download just a refresh of the ajax scripts in the Asp.Net ajax library? I've installed and am using the preview 6 scripts for my website.

I am new to WCF, I was using web service asmx before. I have trouble on making my wcf JSON ajax service work through http like asmx.Could you help me see what wrong in my code?My WCF services are defined in my website application folder. My aim is to call this service in my aspx page java-script code and return complex object back as JSON to my javascript. I have no problem on doing this through classic asmx web service.
When I try to test it through my browser by type this in the URL , URL-http://localhost:3849/WebServices/Account/WCFCompanyService.svc/GetAll. it return "Method not allowed."
But if I type just this URL-http://localhost:3849/WebServices/Account/WCFCompanyService.svc, it return this:
WCFCompanyService Service
You have created a service.To test this service, you will need to create a client and use it to call the service. You can do this using the svcutil.exe tool from the command line with the following syntax:
svcutil.exe URL-http://localhost:3849/WebServices/Account/WCFCompanyService.svc?wsdl
This will generate a configuration file and a code file that contains the client class. Add the two files to your client application and use the generated client class to call the Service. For example:
C#
class Test { static void Main() { HelloClient client = new HelloClient();
[Code]....
This is my Ajax-enabled WCF service code:
[Code]....
This is the web.config service model setting
[Code]....

Pinging back to a webservice in ajax from the client keeps the user's session alive, I don't want this to happen. More extensive summary For a website we're developing, we need the client to ping back (in js) to a webservice (ASMX) on the server (IIS7.5). This happens to let the server know that the user is still on the site, and hasn't browsed away to another site. This is as our customer wants to let users lock records, but if they browse away to other sites, then let other people take over those locked records. Perhaps the distinction between the client being on the site but inactive and on another site seems unimportant, but that's kinda irrelevant, I don't get to write the UI spec, I just have to make it work.
My problem is this, the ping stops the user from being timed out on the server through the standard forms authentication timeout mechanism. Not surprising as there is that 30 second ping in the background keeping the session alive. Even though we want to know if the user is still on the site, we want the normal forms authentication timeout mechanism to be honoured. I thought I might be able to fix this by removing the ASP.NET_SessionId and .ASPXAUTH cookies in the XMLHttpRequest that is the server ping, but I can't figure out how to do this. This is how my web service & method are defined:
[WebService(Namespace = "http://tempuri.org/")]
[WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo = WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)]
[ScriptService]
public class PingWS : WebService
{
[WebMethod]
public void SessionActive(string sessionID)
{
// does stuff here
}
This is how I'm calling it in js (request is over HTTPS, :
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "PingWS.asmx/SessionActive",
data: 'sessionID=' + aspSessionID + '}',
beforeSend: function (xhr) {
xhr.setRequestHeader('Cookie', '');
xhr.setRequestHeader('Cookie', 'ASP.NET_SessionId=aaa; .ASPXAUTH=bbb;');
},
dataType: "json"
});
I was trying with the setRequestHeader, but that just appends to the header rather than overwrites the header, and IIS is happy to ignore that junk I added. I'm thinking maybe I should be trying to do this at the server end, someone take PingWS.asmx out of the loop so that it doesn't keep the session active, but I'm not sure how to do this. Although the title of the question is focused on clearing the cookie in the header, I'd be super happy if anyone points out that I'm being really stupid and there is actually a much better way of trying to do what I'm doing.
I'm thinking at this stage maybe I need to add something to the webmethod that says how long this particular page has been inactive, and use that knowledge to timeout manually. That actually sounds pretty easy, so I think I'll do that for now. I'm still convinced that there must be an easy way to do what I originally wanted to do though. Update I'm thinking I'm pretty screwed in terms of cookie manipulation here as both the .ASPXAUTH and ASP.NETSessionId cookie are HttpOnly, which means the browser takes them out of your hands, you can't access them via the document.cookies object. So I would say that leaves me with:
Updating my SessionAlive webmethod to track each request so I can tell how long the user has been sitting idle on a page and timeout if needs be Marking the .asmx page somehow on the server end so that it's taken out of the normal authentication/session tracking flow I know how to do 1. so I'll start there but 2. seems much cleaner to me.

How could I parse a Json string with all the data from my table to a DataTable or a DataView?

I need to expose a Web service which will provide an array/DataTable of 20 rows (average) of data - certainly no more than 100 rows would ever be needed. The largest item in these rows would be a date.The Web service would be called by a separate Web site in order to display these 20 (approx.) rows in a GridView/DataView. I would have to be able to dynamically choose which domain to go to and find the Web service.I would possibly have to secure the Web service with a password but this is not vital (possibly with soap headers over https).
My question is what technologies should I use to create this Web service? I know enough about .asmx Web services to struggle through and get this working, but should I get a book on WCF and learn that instead?I use AJAX and jQuery so am also wondering if I should be using one of those client side, to call the Web service and populate the grid?

I am expecting results from a jsonp web service call. The expected result is, for example "This is a test".
The result returned is correct when I checked at debug mode.
However the actual result taken from fiddler is "This is );jsonp1286206213419( a test"
Why is a ");jsonp1286206213419(" inserted into the result? How do I troubleshoot this?

n my A.aspx, I will call web method GetName in B.asmx
Is it possible, before my A.aspx call GetName in B.asmx, I inject or put some codes so when A.aspx try to call the method, it needs to go through my injected code without even changing the code in A.aspx and B.asmx?
Is custom HttpModule able to handle this scenario? If yes, how? Which HttpModule's event that occurred before the page actually called the web service?

I know almost nothing about coding in .NET and XML and web services.I need to call a web service and pass it a structured XML statement and catch the return from the web service.I have no idea where to start except I think I am suppose to create a new 2008 VB.NET ASP Web Service App. After that I have no clue. Here is a copy of the bindingattribute I think I need but do not know how to use it: (I think it is correct)
<WebServiceBindingAttribute(Name:="TestConnection", _
Namespace:="http://www.exchangenetwork.net/schema/header/2", _
Location:="https://naas.epacdxnode.net/xml/securityToken_v30.wsdl")>
I also have the xml statement I want to test with. I need to send it and recieve the response. I am pretty sure the web service is using SOAP and I know the XML will have to be wrapped in a SOAp wrapper but I have been told .NET will do that for me.

I'm working on an existing web application (web site project and some class library projects). In the web site project, the guys created many web services, that are called from the aspx pages (sometimes on client side).
I need to create a new web service, so I was suggested to put it "near" the existing web services. I'm gonna need to make an asynchronous call to my new web services.
So I created the service this way, but when I try calling a method asynchronisly, I have only the method in intellisense, I don't have the method for the asynchronous call, neither the Complete event. Why is that ?
On the other hand, I created a new project, with a web service application and a web site where I added the reference to the web service, and this way I have the asynchronous method and the complete event in intellisense.

We have a requirement to call a WCF service from another WCF Service. To test this I build a sample console application to display a simple string. The setup is: Console App -> WCF Service 1 -> WCF Service 2 Console App calls a method of service 1 and the service 1 method eventually calls service 2 method to return a string. I am able to call Console -> Service 1 but Service 1 -> Service 2 is not working. It throws an exception: "Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'ITestService2' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element." To accomplish this,
1. I have created a service2, compiled and then created a proxy class and app.config.
2. I created service1, copied service2.cs(proxy) and app.config, created an object of service2 and called service2's menthod.
3. I created a console application, copied the service1.cs (proxy) and app.config, called service1's method.
Do I need to specify any link in app.config of service1 to service2? but how? the app.config files for service1 and service2 are:
