View 1 RepliesMaybe I am overthinking this a bit but I have a set of SSL enabled third party web services that I want to test. The url for the web service is essentially [URL]
Do I need to have a certificate setup on my test ASPX page to fully encrypt this connection or am I OK. with simply a simple ASPX page, create my objects from the WSDL and have at it?
I'm going thru an asp.net 4 book, and I'm at a part about classes and their properties and functions. But up to now, all the examples involve a web_site, with controls, code_behind files, CSS, etc. But, I get to places where I don't understand the examples, so I look out on the web for other resources. For example, I found the code below to demonstrate the "ToString" function. My problem is, I'm not sure know how to test a little piece of code like this. Can't I just open up an application or project or something, paste this in and run it?
Module Module1
Class Perl
Dim _a As Integer
Dim _b As Integer
Public Sub New(ByVal a As Integer, ByVal b As Integer)
_a = a
_b = b
End Sub
Public Overrides Function ToString() As String
Return String.Format("[{0}, {1}]", _a, _b)
End Function
End Class
Sub Main()
Dim p As Perl = New Perl(2, 3)
Console.WriteLine(p)
End Sub
End Module
I have below code in aspx.cs but I need to move this code to the web services which may not be able to share session with UI.
How can I do??
If (Session["Pick1#" + Productid.ToString()] == null)
{
}
else
inventoryList.AddRange((Inventory.ListInventory)Session["Pick1#" + Productid.ToString()]);
i am new to ASP.NET. I am just now learning about all the benefits. I currently have some C# code that receives sensor signals such as distances from a robot and I wish to put that code into web services and into a website, so that if I want to gather some information from the robot i can through the web, as well as send signals back. I haven't found any information yet on how to do this.
I am just looking on how to intergrate the existing C# code I have to a web service
I have a class with about 5-10 methods which all my services (WCF) need to expose. What is the best way to expose all the methods in all the services keeping (DRY principle) in mind?Is interface inheritence a good design principle? e.g. public interface IBMW : ICar
{
blah();
blah();
}
I'm developing a web site in a high-security environment. For example, we use CAC cards to authenticate users over SSL. The site is a mix of VB.NET and C# on .NET 3.5 with some AJAX. The AJAX parts are now calling web services for things like Cascading Drop Down Lists. We've been running VS2008 configured on our local PCs to use IIS instead of the default server (Cassini). However, some security policies were rolled out to the desktops over the weekend and, suddenly, we're not allowed to run IIS on our PCs anymore. I already have some of our IT people trying to appeal for waivers for developers. In the meantime, I need to find a way to keep developing. If I turn off the SSL requirement to the 'secure' part of the application (locally, my PC only) I can serve up some of the pages (using Cassini) when I hit "F5", but pages with web services just bring up "server application unavailable". I need to be able to add some more functions into the existing web services, among other things, so the ability to single-step through the code is still a necessity. I'm sure someone who is limited to using Cassini has found a way to Build/Debug pages in VS2008 when webservices are involved. As it turns out, some links had "HTTPS://" hard-coded in them (I inherited these). Changing the link to "~folderpage.aspx" allowed Cassini to properly serve things up.
View 2 Repliescan someone give me a high level overview of what the differences are? why would you choose to use one over the other?
View 1 RepliesI've installed Visual Web Developer 2010 Express on a Windows XP Pro PC. IIS is NOT installed yet. I am just evaluating this now, and the built in web server works fine for now.
I've followed these very basic steps and I'm stuck with this error:
Error WebForm_PostBackOptions is undefined
I am trying to add a RequiredFieldsValidator control to the page. Here are the steps I followed...
1- Menu options: File -> New Web Site
2- ASP.NET Empty Web Site
3- Website -> Add new item
4- Select Web Form with Place Code in separate file checked. Master page not checked.
5- No changes to the web.config file
6- I added a couple text boxes and labels to the page and a button.
7- If I click the button now, no problem. The page submits and is displayed with the information entered in the text box fields.
8- Add a RequiredFieldsValidator next to the first text box.
9- I set the ErrorMessage to some text
10- I set the ControlToValidate to the first text box's ID
11- I save then run with CTL + F5
12- The page is displayed in IE 7. I hit the Submit button and I get the popup error described above.
I used the Web Platform Installer for the installation. Everything went fine. All other aspects of my development and testing have been fine. This is the first major roadblock I hit. I think it has something to do with a configuration setting in the web.config file, but I do not know what setting to add/change.
i want to know, how to use the web services in asp.net project
View 2 RepliesI need a book or two to get a good understanding of web services, starting from very basics, and going upto WCF. I've been using c# for 2 years and have intermediate level of experience with the language.

I have written some web services that I want to make available to others by subscription. The subscribers need to use the service from a specific domain / IP address and also authenticate with a user Id and password.
What exactly should I distribute to the subscriber so they can use the services, while exposing the least about my code?How can authenticate a consumer of services without always passing an Id / password for each service?
I learned from internet that webservices can be invoked only by HTTP whereas WCF can be invoked by HTTP,TCP,et., can i know the difference between them
View 4 RepliesThese days I see that every other job posting requires LINQ and WCF. I have spent lot of time on LINQ, was fun to learn.
Now I want to move on to Web Services and WCF. After goggleing for some time, I am not sure either go for web services or WCF.
I've created Web Services in .Net 3.5 & Consumed those Web Services in a Client Web Application. Now i want to Host the WebService in IIS 5.1. I'm very new to .net, I'm using VS 2010, Wndows XP Service Pack 3, IIS 5.1;

View 3 RepliesI'm having my first experience with Web Services with .Net. I received from a client an integration manual to consume a web service they have.
In this manual I have the following information:
Request Interface: [URL]
Using SOAP request would return a XML Document with the response.
WSDL: [URL]
Request XML:
[Code]....
There's also XSD for the response XML.
Well, I'm having a little trouble trying to figure out how to consume this web service.
I found a topic here pointing to a MSDN article. There it says that I would have to add a Web Reference for this web service, but in my case this web service is external. Do I really have to add this reference to consume the web service? If yes how do I do that?
Next I have to create the XML Document that will be sent with the SOAP request. But here's a question. Searching on the internet I found mainly two types of request XML. I don't know wich one I should use.
The first one would be:
[Code]....
The second one is a XML file with soap:Body, soap:Header, soap:Envelope, etc.
Wich one should I create with my application in order to consume the web service? If it's the second one, how would look the XML for the data of the first XML?
And finally, how do I send the Soap request? As I said above, I found a MSDN article but it assumes I'm adding a web reference to the web service on my project and I belive that in my case I won't add this reference. So, how do I consume this web service?
I'm kind of lost here and really really soon I will have to estimate how long will take to develop the web service consume code.
I have a simeple web service set up to call from JAVASCRIPT. That works. Can someone tell me how to access profiles from a web seervice. I get arofileCommon could nt be found......I have included the following in the service but it doesn't seem to solve the problem:
