WCF / ASMX :: Exposing The Shared Code In Services?
Nov 16, 2010
I have a class with about 5-10 methods which all my services (WCF) need to expose. What is the best way to expose all the methods in all the services keeping (DRY principle) in mind?Is interface inheritence a good design principle? e.g. public interface IBMW : ICar
Is there any framework or tool to generate web services (WCF) access to all the non transactional tables in my database? something like asp.net dynamic data but with web services, I need to do this for homologation with other systems.
We need to expose some services (i.e. AddressValidatorService, CustomerFinderService) that currently reside in an ASP.NET application to other applications within our organization. Exposing these services via WCF seems like a natural fit, but I don't see any best-practices for how to pull these common services into a WCF wrapper in such a way that my existing ASP.NET application can continue to use them with minimal code changes and/or awareness that the service they are consuming is no longer in-process. I'm especially looking for recommendations on how to structure the existing ASP.NET solution and whether to host our new WCF in the same solution or in some new shared WCF solution referenced by both our ASP.NET application and external callers.Also, is it bad practice to simply promote the DTOs currently only consumed in-process via ASP.NET to full fledged data contracts or is it preferable to create duplicate DTOs that are explicitly decorated with [DataContract]?
i am new to ASP.NET. I am just now learning about all the benefits. I currently have some C# code that receives sensor signals such as distances from a robot and I wish to put that code into web services and into a website, so that if I want to gather some information from the robot i can through the web, as well as send signals back. I haven't found any information yet on how to do this.
I am just looking on how to intergrate the existing C# code I have to a web service
I was curious if there is a shared hosting platform for asp.net web sites that would allow me to setup a service that would do something at predetermined intervals. Dedicated hosting is not an option due to budget constraints.
So far, it looks like my solution will have to be to set an object in the cache and use the expired callback.
Has any one used the above method? and how successful was it?
I have managed to expose the MEX endpoint of my WCF service and I can access it with the address like [URL] (example) and get the WDSL. So no problem there.
However, my WCF test page shows the address wrongly by using the server's name instead of the DNS name. And if I click on the link on the test page it won't work (can't get WSDL).
The WCF test page looks like this:
MyService Service
You have created a service.
To test this service, you will need to create a client and use it to call the service.
[URL]
The WCF service is hosted in IIS6. I would like to have a test page with the correct WSDL address so users can see the WSDL quickly in the browser just by clicking on the WSDL address.
In short: How can I change the MyServerName to inter.mycompany.com on the WCF test page? Can this be specified somewhere in the Web.config?
I have a method in wcf which returns stream of custom object. I need to deserialize this stream at client side, but my custom class which is exposed as data contract is not visible through client proxy. When I add a dummy operation contract which returns the custome object I am able to get this custom class. I dont want to write this dummy method as there are many such custom classes.
Is there any way to expose data contract without writing any operation contract that returns or accepts data contract type object?
I am having some trouble with my IIS web server & SQL reporting services.
At the current time my site is playing host to both reporting services (/reports & /reportserver) as well as my personal website (domain.com)
Only just recently have I implemented a Theme on my site and as such I have placed a statement in my web.config file directing it to apply a certain theme in the following manner:
<pages styleSheetTheme="General">
Because of this when I try to access the report pages it fails, telling me it couldn't find the Theme. So, what I did was locate the source files for the /reports & /reportserver directories and placed the App_Theme folder in them hoping that would sort everything out.
What I am getting now is the following error:
*Using themed css files requires a header control on the page. e.g. head runat="server" *
Does anyone know how I can get around this? Do I have to hack the SQL reporting aspx pages? I do NOT want to remove the web.config declaration.
I want to call a non shared function in a shared function in which i am having a textbox control instance. Its giving no error but when i call this shared function from client callback it gives me no response
Any Idea except removing shared from the function.
Here is my code :
<WebMethod()> _ Public Shared Function myF() As String Dim pg As New _Default Return "{'Hello':'" & pg.setText & "'}" End Function Public Function setText() As String Dim pg As New _Default pg.TextBox1.Text = "This is a test" Return pg.TextBox1.Text End Function
I am trying to put a basic Hello World Web Service in my Go Daddy Shared hosting.
It is a basic default Hello World Web Service that Visual Studio 2010 automatically generates: it works in my local web machine: i can invoke and can see the xml.
I have transferred the Service1.asmx and the Service1.cs file( in the App_Code folder ). I can view the web service page, but I cannot invoke the web service method, and as a result I cannot see the xml file where the "Hello World" string will be in side the <string> element.
Though I can see the web service page, there is no invoke button. How will I invoke or render the content in an aspx page? As the web page has to change the name space, I have changed the namespace to my website address, but still I cannot see or do an invocation and as a result cannot see the generated xml. My question is
1) what should I do so that I can see the return xml value from the web service?
2) what should I do so that I can render the data of the web service in a web page ( for example, in mywebservicepage.aspx)?
I used visual webdeveloper 2008 express edition to make a new WCF Service Application.If I test it on my pc it works perfectly , But if I publish it to my shared hosting site I get this erroris has a BuildProviderAppliesToAttribute attribute which includes the value 'Web' or 'All'.
I need a book or two to get a good understanding of web services, starting from very basics, and going upto WCF. I've been using c# for 2 years and have intermediate level of experience with the language.
I have written some web services that I want to make available to others by subscription. The subscribers need to use the service from a specific domain / IP address and also authenticate with a user Id and password.
What exactly should I distribute to the subscriber so they can use the services, while exposing the least about my code?How can authenticate a consumer of services without always passing an Id / password for each service?
I learned from internet that webservices can be invoked only by HTTP whereas WCF can be invoked by HTTP,TCP,et., can i know the difference between them
I've created Web Services in .Net 3.5 & Consumed those Web Services in a Client Web Application. Now i want to Host the WebService in IIS 5.1. I'm very new to .net, I'm using VS 2010, Wndows XP Service Pack 3, IIS 5.1;
I have a wcf dataservice that talks to a silverlight client and a wcf service library that talks to a chat client.How can i get the two services to talk to each other?
ExchangeServiceBinding binding = new ExchangeServiceBinding(); binding.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(username, password); binding.Url = "http://servername/ews/exchange.asmx";
The above web services throws Unauthorized Access Error (Error : 401) for newly created users.I would like to know how to impersonate this user for accessing this exchange web services.
