View 2 RepliesI have running existing web service in framework 2.0, but i want to convert all my service to framework 3.5 WCF Service..
View 1 RepliesI added a Web Method to the existing web service. I don't see this method in my web project. I can see all the old methods but I couldn't access this method. Do I have to create proxy for this method?
View 2 RepliesCurrently I have project in ASP.NET 2.0 and I wanted to implement web services using my existing code.
View 2 RepliesI've been reading quite a few tutorials on web services and xml files and one thing isn't quite clear to me. If I want to create an XML file on the fly the tutorials are pretty straight forward but, I want to grab an existing XML file from the web server and return the whole thing. Do I need to read the XML file and send each individual node or is there a way to send the file all at once? The tutorials imply that the whole file could be a node but I'm not clear on what that entails or if it would work. Also do you have a link to an example?
View 1 RepliesI have a WCF service which has 4 Operation contracts.
I have added a new contract and it gets the data from database and returns the result set.
I can access the new contract and the service get the correct result set. But while passing the result set to the client I get the error of The underlying connection was closed: The connection was closed unexpectedly.
What are the steps to follow after adding a new contract like new binding etc.
I was reading through this post here http://www.misfitgeek.com/op-ed/adding-asp-net-membership-to-your-own-database and thought to my self what the common practice is. What do developers using ASP.NET membership and authorization in their applications recommend as a best practice? creating the membership tables in the same database that stores their applications data or configuring a second database to store ONLY the membership information?.
My current setup is a different database for membership information ONLY but am thinking that increases the number of databases i have to maintain. If I have 5 applications using asp.net membership, then that means 5 more asp.net membership databases. So do you normally create the asp.net membership tables in your main database or you configure a separate membership table? what do you recommend.
I have two sql tables.
- (Fields:PersonID, FirstName, LastName, Role, Department)
and
- (fields: PersonID, Unit).
I want to merge those with a single table ( Fields:PersonID, FirstName, LastName, Role, Department, Unit). How can I query to accomplish this so that same personID data go to same row ? ANY QUERY ?? (I have an idea : both export to excel and merge into a single excel file and import to SQL table but due to very long data it was truncated last time when importing so I don't want to reimport again.)
I have an application in Asp.net and using sql server to store user information. There is a table named dbo.member which stores user information - fname, lastname, email, phone etc. We use LDAP for authentication. The entire application works on this member table. There is a unique userid(not password) associated with each member. I installed default aspnet_membership, aspnet_role tables by running aspnet_regsql.exe utility. Now with increasing number of applications, handling members' information is becoming nightmare. I hope Membership providers will solve this problem but I have doubts.
How can I integrate existing member table with default aspnet_membership table? Or should I integrate since it is very limited? Same is the case with aspnet_Profile - it is very limited and I have stored all profile information into member table. We store more information and we want to query all that information for a user. Should I create my own provider that will use dbo.Member table instead of dbo.Membership table and also with Profile provider?
I am running windows 7 and NET Framework 4.
Problem is I dont know how to locate the asp.reg.sql tool that will do this using windows 7.
how to do this?
Create profile tables in an existing mdf in app_code directory

View 2 RepliesA customer reported that our asmx web service is continually increasing in memory (mem usage as well as private bytes). We are able to reproduce the problem in our lab with Windows 2003 Server SP2 (fully patched) on some of the machines. The customer is using Windows 2008.
We created a Hello World web service targeting the 2.0 framework built under VS2005 SP1 and a test client that continues to call it. The memory increases steadily - approximately 40K per client request. If the test app is paused, the memory remains the same. When it is closed, the memory drops. Explicit calling of GC.Collect does not drop the memory.
We have run the memory profiler on the service and the leak is all native memory. We have uninstalled/re-installed the Framework on one of the machines but no difference. To our knowledge all of the security and IIS settings are not modified. We have compared app pool, default web site and virtual directory properties to machines that have no problem and they are identical.
I have a .net app developed in .net 4.0 version. And I implemented an asmx web service in this. Now I want to call one of the webservice method in another classis ASP application java script function.

View 1 RepliesIs it possible to run a web service as a particular user/service account in the same way a Windows service can?I have a service account used for connecting to the DB and want to run the webservice under this account as the users using the webservice won't have DB access. The way I see to do it is to include the Impersonate option in the Web.config file, but is there any better way to do this?

View 1 RepliesMy WCF Client calls my WCF Service which then calls ASMX Web Service. The problem is i have configured my wcf client and wcf service to windows credentials type but when wcf service calls asmx service the user credentials (default windowsidentity) is not passed to asmx service.
In WCF Service i am able to get user identity by using : Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Name;
WCF Service - i have disabled anonymous access and enabled windows authentication. ASMX Web Service - i have disabled anonymous access and enabled windows authentication.

View 1 RepliesI have a new asmx web service (written with .Net 3.5), I'll be accessing this service from a Silverlight 3 app, and I want to add the service to an existing asp.net web site (written with .Net 2.0). How do I go about doing that? I tried the obvious route of just copying the entire project folder to the web site, but I experienced a number of errors when trying to view the asmx page from a browser.
There's already a service on the web site, and all it has is the asmx file, the dll and a web.config in the folder, and that's where I'm at right now with me new service. It appears to instantiate just fine, but when I call a method in t, nothing happens (the AsyncCompleted events never fire).
We developed webservices and provided services to Clients. As per my requirement i have to change the webmethod signature datatype. Can i handle without inform to client.
View 1 RepliesHow to create simple web service in VS2010 Professional (trial version). There is no template to do this. I am not trying to create WCF service here.
View 2 RepliesHow do I add the WCF service built using VS2010 as a service reference to a Winforms app which is written in VB6?
View 1 RepliesI am keep getting an error that "Service Error : wbsTest failed" where wbsTest is my webservice.
The error comes up frequently enough for the user - normally reproducible within a minute or so of working with an application.
A bit of background: An user is a remote user accessing application hosted on our servers over https. He is software firewalled and his connection isn't the fastest but it is responsive enough. When errors do not present themselves, page loads are fairly quick.
