Oct 20, 2010I have a web page with links to various files including an Access 2003 .mdb and an Access 2007 .accdb. Both are about 1 mb in size. Both are in the same directory. The hyperlink for both is coded the same except for the database name. Users are instructed to right click on the links and choose "Save Target As..." to download the application to their computer. Currently, users and myself can download the .mdb trouble free. The .accdb will not. The error message states that the site cannot be found or is unavailable. This happens with any .accdb I put in the directory.

Jun 4, 2010We have a big portal with a lot of code written in classic asp + asp.net 2.0 + JavaScript. We are planning to slowly migrate to .net 3.5 framework with WCF Services. Currently the ASP.Net code is using some business layer to access the database. But most of the Classic ASP is using the old ADO code and directly accessing the data in the page itself. Now, we decided to add a WCF layer between the UI and Business which will be easier to implement with ASP.Net + 3.5, compared to Classic ASP. And we can't invest a lot of Man Hours in converting the Classic ASP pages to asp.net just yet. So we decided to Add a COM layer between Classic ASP and WCF services. So it will be like
Classic ASP -> COM -> CCW (COM Callable Wrapper - Interop) -> WCF -> Business for now.
Later on when we slowly convert the Classic asp pages to asp.net, the COM layer will be removed by default. But for now we are atleast pulling the Business code from Classic Asp pages. We are following this approach because we are not sure how to go about accessing the WCF Service directly from the Classic ASP code.
Accessing Remote Files From Web Service?
Jul 15, 2010My web service needs to open some files located on a remote computer.
From Windows I can do the authentication so I can see those files using the File Explorer.
If I try to open the files from my Web Service while it's running using Visual Studio (ASP.NET Development Server) it also works.
However, if I do everything from IIS it doesn't.In order to find out where is the problem what I did was to run a network sniffer and I found out that when using IIS, the system will try to use the account 'ASPNET' to login into those remote computers which will obviously fail.
However this doesn't happen if I run from the IDE (Using the ASP.NET Development Server)I found out that if I use Impersonation for accessing this it will work, the problem is I need to have the same account names on the computer running IIS so I would rather not to do that.
Why is it working from the ASP.NET Development Server and not from IIS? Is there a way to give full access to the ASPNET account?
Connect To MS Access Accdb File On Windows Server 2008
Feb 21, 2011in my ASP.NET applicaton I have ftpdata folder, where is MS Access 2010 somename.accdb file. On my local computer (Win XP), there is no problem to connect with OleDb to this file and read write datas into and from tables. But on server (Windows Server 2008), I cannot connect to the same file like on localhost.

Mar 23, 2011I downloaded the latest version of Visual Web Developer Express. I created an Access (.accdb) database with a table and one record inside it. I dropped a grid view onto my page and selected 'Configure Data Source'. It only wants (.mdb). I have searched the web and discovered bits and peices of information but nothing really in depth that shows me how to fully utilize an (.accdb) Access Database with Visual Web Developer Express Edition. Can someone give me an explanation of how to set up my .aspx page for C#?

Dec 31, 2010I have a web service which is in a folder within my application. This folder is only accesible to certain roles. I use this service in a page on root of the application but I block creation of the javascript or the service definition in the aspx page if the user is not in the role.
The problem is that when anonymous users try to access the page in the root of the application they are prompted for a user name and password. I hope I am clear. The code below is what I have set up in the ASPX page:

I suppose using that url path for webservice is wrong.. I used the path 'DummyWebservice.asmx'. There I'm getting the 500 internal server error.

I have supplied user crendentials also, the same web service working in another machine with the same mapped drive with the same user credentials. Manually I can map the drive using the credentials which I'm passing thru the application.

I must be doing something stupid
My Dll is called SMSLibrary2X which has a web reference to a UserService web service like this (taken from the app.config of the dll:

, however, in the web reference, the URL property is [URL]
As I understand it, the app.config for the DLL is not really pertinent, except perhaps to copy the setting into the app.config of the unit test project.
So, In the SMSLibrary2xTests web.config file, I have this:

However when my unit tests run, always pick up the URL of the web service that I defined when I added the Web Reference to the SMSLibrary2x DLL project, which is fine for design time, but not appropriate when I want to point to different versions at deploy time (dev, QA, prod, etc). I just can't seem to get it to pick up the proper URL.

May 9, 2010I have a URL (1) if i hit that URL using HttpWebRequest i get another URL (2) and if i hit the URL (2) i get XML and i process that XML and insert into my database.
I can hit the URL (1) and get the URL(2) but if i hit the URL (2) i am not getting XML. i think i need to pass some cookie info for authentication but i dont know how to do that in windows service [URL]

WCF / ASMX :: Accessing A Published Web Service Gives Null Ref Exception?
Sep 2, 2010I have an Asp.net web service that I created using Visual Studio 2005. I can acess the web service in my test environment, call methods and return data as expected. If this web service is published to the outside world (Outside of the company firewall), it will return a null why this might be happening? The same code is being used,against the same database. The only difference is that the published website is giving back the null reference exception. If I type in the URL for the web service "https://secure.theSiteGeist.com/wsIndigo.asmx" a list of methods for the web service is displayed in my browser. Yet if I try and call any methods on the web service I get back the null reference exception. Note that the URL I posted above is not the real name of my web service, but is just used for reference sake.

Aug 17, 2010My ASP.NET MVC 2 application runs under built-in local NETWORK SERVICE account. I want to set up access permissions for the folder which resides in another computer, but in the same domain. I located that folder right-clicked to open its properties form, clicked to Security tab and pressed Add button which displayed Add user form with correct domain name in the location field. I referred to the account with following syntax:
<domain name><server name>$
because I learned that NETWORK SERVICE account uses machine account when connected to other computers in the domain. However, the system couldn't find the account, so refuses to add the account. Without the domain name it adds a user, but that user seems to be local user, not web server's NETWORK SERVICE account. What am I doing wrong?
By the way, the above syntax worked when I created login for the sql server which is different computer from the web server.

Aug 17, 2010I have built a WCF Service that is being consumed by a Silverlight app. At first I created one method that was very simple:

No poblem. My silverlight app references my service and displays "SF Test" in a textbox. Now I add a method to my wcf service like this:

I update the reference to the service in my Silverlight app and the using statement in my xaml cs page throws an error like the service doesn't even exist although it is there. I am assuming the problem has to do with datatypes or serialization or something like that but it is driving me up the wall. Why can't I consume a simple generic list in my Silverlight app through the WCF service.
VS 2010 - Web Service Runs Locally But When Deployed Has Error Could Not Create Type Service
May 24, 2012I developed a web service in VS2010 on my local machine, wrote a consumer of it also locally, and that all works.
I copied the dll and the asmx file to our server, and I am getting an error when I try to invoke it from a browser (also still on the server machine) to make sure it correctly exposes its web methods, but it is not, it is saying "Could not create type 'Service'". That error comes from this line:

There other web services in the same folder on the server that all work fine so I don't believe it's an IIS setup thing.
This is my first web service in C# and when I created it in VS I did think it odd that the code behind file went into App_Code (as you can see from the line in the asmx file) and is just named dot-cs rather than asmx-dot-cs. But since it worked fine locally, I wasn't sure that mattered.

Jan 5, 2011I have asp.net 2.0 site which is calling web services hosted on another server. When i have an xml file from where web service ip for eg. www.mysite/webservice1/myservice.asmx is given. When i call the same server from developer machine using local networkit works fine.But the same is when hosted remotely and from client end when services is called reading xml fiile from client machine it given a message 'remote server not connecting'.
