View 1 RepliesOK, been burning up Google and Bing trying to figure out a good solution to this problem, and so far, I feel like I've taken a dive down a rabbit hole - I'm just waiting on the Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter to show up. Alice is kinda cute, but unfortunately, she didn't have any good suggestions, either.
Here's the scenario - I have a User Control on a Child Page that has a Master Page assigned. The control is for logging in to the system, so it contains two text boxes, a couple of links to password recovery and registration, and an ImageButton to handle submission of the username/password entered in the text boxes.
Everything works just as expected when the user actually takes the mouse and clicks on the ImageButton control.
Things don't work so well when the user enters a username and password and then presses the Enter/Return key.
While debugging, VS2005 (I know...ugh!) will stop at the LoginButtonClick event, and seems to run the code. Of course, the .Text property of the two input controls was empty, but the Request.Form collection had the values burried within the collection of Keys.
So, a little bit of digging got me to the point where they can login using either the Enter key or clicking on the ImageButton. So, everything seems like it's good, right? Nope, not so fast.
When I enter a username/password combo that's designed to fail authentication, the code will step through setting the error message, etc, but that information never makes it to the point where it's visible to the user.
I'm not seeing any extra postbacks (obvious ones, anyway), but for some reason, when the page goes to redraw when it's in a "failed" state, the notations just simply aren't there.
Below is the code in the User Control that handles the actual authentication routine. All controls, such as the Label with ID "message", are local to the User Control, so I don't think it's a FindControl("message") problem or something similar...just so bizarre that it disappears seeming without reason.

I'm sure this has been asked before I just did not know how to ask it to get the forums to show up the right answer. I have a master page with a search box and then a content page with an input box and a submit button. As I'm using the program, I as a keyboard lover always hit enter after typing text into a text field. The issue is that when I'm typing in the input box and I press enter, the search boxes button will steal this enter. How can I divide the two asp.net form elements so that when I'm typing in the search box and press enter, the search button is invoked and when I'm typing in the input box and press enter the input button is invoked? An example of this happening is in the code below
[Code]....
I have a form with several submit buttons. I would like the button's click events to fire when enter is pressed based on which textboxes currently have focus. I am able to specify one button using the code below by adding the onkeydown event to the body of the page and checking for Enter's keyCode
<body onkeydown="if(event.keyCode==13){document.getElementById('btnSearch').click();}">
</body>
I assume this code can be modified or call a function to perform a conditional to see if txtSearch or txtSubmit has focus and specify btnSearch or btnSubmit accordingly, but I am not experienced with javascript.
I added a user control on master page and inside UserControl i add a link. and did some stuff on click of link.
Again i add another Content Page that is using the user control not the master page. Inside the table i add some textbox and save values in database . and the table is in UpdatePanel. and added ad trigger
<Triggers><asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="btnUpdate1" EventName="Click" /></Triggers>
When i remove the usercontrol entering on table textbox values works fine. and again i put the same user control the link button contol doesn't work for me.
How can I set Focus to a TextBox while Button click event is fired using Default Button when enter key is pressed. Here is my Page and code.
<%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/mpChat.master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="FocusTest.aspx.cs" Inherits="FocusTest" %>
<asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="head" Runat="Server">
</asp:Content>
<asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="ContentPlaceHolder1" Runat="Server">
<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server">
<ContentTemplate>
<asp:Panel ID="Panel1" runat="server" DefaultButton="Button1">
<asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server">
</asp:TextBox>
<asp:Button ID="Button1"
runat="server" Text="Button" onclick="Button1_Click" />
</asp:Panel>
</ContentTemplate>
</asp:UpdatePanel>
</asp:Content>
using System;
public partial class FocusTest : System.Web.UI.Page
{
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (!IsPostBack)
TextBox1.Focus();
}
protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
TextBox1.Text = "";
TextBox1.Focus();
}
}
Private Sub control1 click event
& another protected sub control 2 click event
i need to call control1 click event in protected sub control 2 click event
I've found posts about making a click event with jQuery for a button, however I need a little more then that. When any postback occurs on a page, I need to fire off a jQuery click event. Based on a condition, I want to continue processing (including running the server-side event code after the jQuery code), or, perform a redirect. I'm not quite sure how to go about this.
View 1 RepliesHow can one fire a button click event when someone presses Enter in Textbox. I had a master page on which Search button & a Textbox for writing Search text is there. When one clicks on "Search" button, it works fine. But when one presses Enter, no search results are displayed.

View 2 RepliesI create a new project, add a textbox and a button (and its click event), and run the app. If I press enter while the focus is inside the textbox, it posts back, but the button's click event isn't fired. What makes sense is the button's click event isn't fired, because I didn't specify "defaultbutton" for the form. What doesn't make sense is why the page is posted back. I thought maybe if I set "AutoPostBack" to false that it would change something (wishful thinking), but that didn't work.ion
View 6 RepliesI have a master page and many content pages. In my master page i have LOGOUT button. In the content pages i have many buttons. Now the prob is, LOGOUT button is set to default automatically.. this is very annoying that whenever i wanted to submit the form, i am pressing ENTER key and it is taking me to the login page. So, pls let me know How can i set the particular button_click event to be fired when ENTER key is pressed.
View 10 RepliesI have two search textboxes and two corresponding buttons on my web page.One of the textboxes is a default textbox coming from the .master page and the other one is local to the page.Now,when I enter some text into the local textbox and press enter, the event of the master page button gets fired instead of that of the local button.How do I fix this issue? I tried to shift focus to the local button and on the text changed event but the master page button event is always the last one which is getting fired. I tried changing both the buttons to LinkButtons but then enter doesn't work!A
View 2 RepliesI apologise for the newbie question, but if i have a (e.g) textboxKeyword and i type in "Pets" into the box and instead of having to use my mouse and click on my 'Go' button, I simply hit the 'enter' button and the event gets fired and my datagrid gets filled with all my search criteria. What's the event / code that I would use on the 'textboxKeyword' ?
View 4 RepliesI have a few sections in my code with a button to do something different in each. I'm pretty sure the user would press enter to submit the section, but I would like to handle it nonetheless.To handle it, I put the "sections" into Panels, and set the default button for each. There is a total of 4 panels and default buttons set to their respective included buttons.When I press enter in 3 of them, the correct event fires, but not in one (it calls a different button).I put MsgBoxes (for testing) at the beginning of each server event to see which is being called, and it's not the correct one.I might as well post the code, but it's fairly simple. I don't know if the accordion affects it at all, but it doesn't seem like it should...
[Code]....
Sorry, I hate when people post way too long code, but most of it doesn't exactly apply, so just focus on the panels.When I press enter when in focus in on a textbox in BudgetReportsPanel2 and press enter, the
UpdateButton event is called instead.
I've been searching a little bit to try and find the answer to this problem. As of right now another person I work with has designed a wizard step with an upload button in part of it. After the person clicks the browse button and selects their file a validation statement comes up saying, "Please click 'upload and continue' or clear the field" and then is supposed to disable the continue button until this is done. He started by adding a RegularExpressionValidator and found it did not solve his problem.
Now that he's out today we're working on trying to solve this and my first though is to actually use a custom validator instead and have it call a function in the back-code for validation which checks to see if the "Upload" click-event has happened. Is there an easy way of verifying whether or not a click-event has occurred. Basically my conditional is shown in the pseudo-code below...

I have to click twice on button control to fire an event.
View 6 RepliesI have been working on this for hours now and it's driving me crazy. I am using vb.net in Visual Studio 2005. I have an asp.net textbox called xtSearch. I want it so that if the user presses the Enter key while inside the textbox to do the same thing that my button btnSearch does which is a simple response.redirect that uses txtSearch.text in its concatenation. I have tried using something like:
Private
Sub txtSearch_KeyPress(ByVal sender
As
Object,
ByVal e
As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs)
Handles txtSearch.KeyPress
but it gives me the error that, "Type System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs' is not defined." This seems so simple but it is so difficult.
I have a button for which there is a OnClientClick() event which calls a javascript method on clicking the button. Everything is good till this point.Now, when clicking on ENTER button on the key board instead of clicking on BUTTON the Java script is not being called.
View 3 Repliesi am currently developing an asp.net project. there is a previous, next, and cancel button that the user can utilize, but the problem is that everything is broken into controls so that if they hit the browser's back button it will reset everything and take them to the very beginning. i would like to capture the onbeforeunload event and trigger the previous button click event (i.e. treating navigation like clicking the previous button).
View 6 RepliesI got an event handler like this, in this event, i wanted to call another button click event. How can I do that?
[Code]....
if (ds.Tables[0].Rows.Count == 0)
i have an form with an button and some input controls. some time due to input problem i may get error after that if i refreshed the page then that time the button click event has fired, how to avoid this kind of bad event fire.
View 3 RepliesI have a textbox with autopostback=true and a button to save the data in the form. Functionality works fine when entering a value in the textbox, tabbing out of the textbox and clicking on the save button. But issue comes up when entering a value in the textbox and directly clicking on the save button without tabbing out of the text box. In the second scenario, only textchanged event fires and save click event dosen't fire. What I was expecting was after exection of textchanged event, save click event should also fire. But this is not happening.
View 5 RepliesI have a gridview called gvResults. In the gvResults_RowEditing event I add a row below the one selected. In that new row, which spans all columns, I insert a user-control. There are two buttons and some textboxes in the user control.
My problem is that when I click one of the user-control buttons it never gets to the button event handler, I think because the user control is not recreated on the page postback. How can I have the user-control events fire before the parent page events fire?
I tried using an update panel, but I still get the parent posting back before the user-control events.
I am updateing my gridview using button click event but at the fisrt time it does not get updated first time but its works second time i dont know why . Dol u know how to genterate two button click event for the same button.Records never get updated on first button click event but its works on second button click event.
