What would be the proper syntax in ASP.NEt 3.5 C# to assign a TextBox value to a temporary or session variable to be manipulated (added, subtracted, multiplied, divided) at different points in the application? I want to add a decimal number to this variable in almost every instance as well.

I'm working on a web page that is going to be used to enter data into a database. The page is going to be dynamic in that the user has the ability to add a row to the table with the same fields, ie lname1, fname1, mi1 then lname2, fname2, mi2
I'm wanting to use a variable to keep track of how many lines there are so that when I generate the added line I am creating a new field with the ID of lname+# . Whats the best way to do this, a global variable, session variable? As side note, first time programming in .Net or C#.

I've been pickling my brain trying to do this for a couple of days but to no avail. I have the following in "FormView1" which I'm just using in insert mode:
<td class="style4">
<asp:TextBox ID="urlTextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("url") %>' CausesValidation="True" Width="200px" />
</td>
I'd like the contents (i.e. whatever the user wants to insert) to be passed to a method where it will be checked against any existing values in the database.

I bind dropdownlist in my page
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {
BindDropDownList(DDL1, "city1", "name", "ID");
DDL1.Items.Insert(0, new ListItem("select city", "0"));
}
And SP
LTER procedure [dbo].[city1]
as
begin
select id,Name
from city
end
And design code
<asp:DropDownList ID="DDL2" runat="server" CssClass="daddsd">
</asp:DropDownList>
And here is imagebutton code that when click on it update data into table
protected void ImageButton_Click1(object sender, ImageClickEventArgs e) {
string data = Server.UrlDecode(Request.QueryString["BehCode2"]);
SqlCommand _cmd = new SqlCommand("insertinfo", _cn);
_cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
_cn.Open();
[Code] ....

Given this Global.asax.cs:
using System;
using System.Web;
namespace Foo.Web {
[code]....
User hits webapp and is shown Introduction.aspx
User continues using webapp for a few minutes (ASP.NET_SessionId: ublbhu45ji31e055ywqu0555)
User falls idle (doesn't perform any postbacks) for a few minutes
User performs postback
User is shown Introduction.aspx
Second inspection of user's ASP.NET_SessionId cookie still shows ublbhu45ji31e055ywqu0555
Why is the user shown Introduction.apsx the second time inside the same ASP.NET Session? I'm familiar w/ the risk in setting session variables just before a redirect in the same postback, but that doesn't apply here, right?

I'm learning asp.net mvc 2, it's very excting with me.
I has built a small MVC2 application, it is working fine in built it ASP.net Development Server. However, there're something wrong when have it deployed in IIS 7.5, Window Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. Session is awlays null when I access the application by IE and use hostname to specify the url.
Using IE (IE 7 or IE8) to access my application with link [URL] every working fine
But when I use IE (IE 7 or IE8) to access my application with link [URL] session always null
I'm supprised while FireFox working fine in all cases, both of built in ASP.net Development Server and IIS server, both cases hostname and ip and localhost.

I am setting a Session variable in an HttpHandler, and then getting its value in the Page_load event of an ASPX page. I'm setting it using
public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context)
{
HttpPostedFile file = context.Request.Files["Filedata"];
context.Session["WorkingImage"] = file.FileName;
}
(And before someone suggests that I check the validity of file.FileName, this same problem occurs if I hard-code a test string in there.) It's working just fine in IE, but in Firefox the Session Variable is not found, getting the "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error in the following code:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string loc = Session["WorkingImage"].ToString();
}
Has anyone encountered this problem - and hopefully come up with a means for passing the session variable?

I have a problem with ViewState. I have an aspx page that has a treeview on the left and an UpdatePanel with an ASP.NET Panel inside on the right. It is in that inner Panel where I load and unload dynamically user controls. I use that update panel to load dynamically controls.
I also made a custom control for my user controls because I need to pass some values from page. On that constructor I use ViewState to store these values.
The first time I load the user control I call its constructor with parameters. When I reload that user control on each postback I use its normal constructor.
My problem is I the values I've stored on ViewState has become null on successive postback.
Update:
This is a piece of my user control:
public class MyUserControl : System.Web.UI.UserControl
{
private int PKId
{
get { return ViewState["pkId"] as int; }
set { ViewState["pkId"] = value; }
}
public MyUserControl(int pkId)
{
this.PKId = pkId;
}
...
}
I'm following this article to load controls dynamically: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc748662.aspx#id0070065.
Second Update:
I also set the same control ID when I load the user control at first time and on each reaload.
Maybe I can use another method to store these values like input hidden fields or Cache. I've choosen ViewState because I don't want to overload server with Session values for each user.
Third update:
I load the controls with this code:
System.Web.UI.UserControl baseControl = LoadControl(ucUrl) as System.Web.UI.UserControl;
if (baseControl != null)
{
baseControl.ID = "DestinationUserControl";
PanelDestination.Controls.Add(baseControl);
}
And reaload with this code:
DynamicControls.CreateDestination ud = this.LoadControl(TrackedUserControl) as DynamicControls.CreateDestination;
if (ud != null)
{
ud.ID = "DestinationUserControl";
PanelDestination.Controls.Add(ud);
}

I am creating a presentation on basis of some selected values and maitaning the selected values in a session variable named Session("userPref") in collection form.
Now I am opening a TablePreview.aspx page by javascript window.open() function.
On Page_Load of TablePreview.aspx I am reading some values of Session("userPref") and doing some operatons.
For saving the presentation I have created a page wizardsave.aspx.
Now I am opening the wizardsave.aspx from TablePreview.aspx by window.open() function for saving presentation, but on Page_Load of wizardsave.aspx. I found that some value from collection stored in Session("userPref") have lost.

I have one parent gridview where each record will link to its details page (another child gridview in modal popup). May I know how do I store the values of the child gridview temporary (maybe in session) and repopulate the data into the parent gridview? Current problem is: once I click save in the child modalpop gridview, it binds the parent gridview before the child gridview data is stored in session. I want to store the data temporary until user click save in the parent gridview.

I'm using Microsoft Chart control in my ASP 3.5 application and since it's local it works well. After uploading it to my remote host, I received an error message regarding unauthorized access to somewhere on the server. So I changed the Image StorageMode to UseImageLocation. Now it works well, except that by each page browse, it produces a couple of images which I cannot get rid of. I found a deleteAfterServicing property set in the ChartImageHandler key defined in web.config and I set it to true, but it didn't help. What could I do to delete the temporary files and avoid bloating?

I am using ASP.NET MVC 3 and the YUI library.I created my own helper method to redirect to an edit view by passing in the item's ID from the Model as such:
window.location = '@Url.RouteUrl(Url.NewsEdit(@Model.NewsId))';
Now I am busy populating my YUI data table and would like to call my helper method like above, not sure if it is possible because I get the item's ID by JavaScript like:
var formatActionLinks = function (oCell, oRecord, oColumn, oData) {
var newsId = oRecord.getData('NewsId');
oCell.innerHTML = '<a href="/News/Edit/' + newsId + '">Edit</a>';
};

How can I call a .net method in inline code using a javascript variable?My code looks like this:
for ( var i = 0; i < numberIterations; i++ )
{
var result = <%# GetFilterTagURL( myArray[i].Value, false) %>;
//do stuff with result
}
This block is inside a javascript block; the GetFilterTagURL method is a a .net method and I want to pass the variable myArray[i].Value as the first parameter.
UPDATE:I guess that, as you say, I'll have to create a web service to achieve what I want.

I am storing the returned sql resultant rows in a session variable ... so that I need not to query again and again
Session["ds"] = datasetname;
Everything is fine but when I am doing export to excel ... where at last after the export is completed I am calling the method in try/catch
try {
Response.End()
}
catch {}
But due to this, my session variable (ds) is getting expired and when I am using it next there is no rows and hence my page displays no data.
I tried going through internet and found that this is a bug it seems as identified by Microsoft and they have provided a hotfix for this but in Windows Vista .... I am running on XP.

Is there any other workaround to this problem?

I'm coding with VB.NET and have a webform that includes gridview. The gridview captures data via a db view. Also the view includes all the parameters of the tables.
The problem is: when start program, there is only 2 rows seen on gridview. then i can insert something successfully. And when i checked from db i can see the new data. But in my form, newly inserted data doesn't seen. Even i restart the whole program, gridview always shows only 2 entries.
