Web Forms :: Disable Enter Key In Textbox Inside An Asp:Panel?
Jan 21, 2010
There are a lot of post about how to disable the Enter key in a one-line Textbox, but non of them works if you put the Textbox inside an asp:panel.I assume there are multiple eventhandlers on the keypress event on a Textbox if it is inside a panel. So I would have to add my own handler at the end of the list somehow.

I have developing ASP.Net Website and has a Webform with lots of controls. I have so many different controls on my page like buttons, textboxes, etc.
Now what happens is that generally on any form, when user hits Enter Key, it fires the first default button's click event or if focus is on any button, it fires that button click. I want to avoid this.
When user hits enter key on form basically nothing should happen. But let's say if he is entering into multiline textbox, that enter key should work to go to next line in that textbox.
I tried this.
[Code]....
but the problem is that then it disabled enter key for everything. But what I am looking for is that to avoid any button click event or any other postback to happen when user hits enter key while being on form anywhere. But Enter key should work when it is inside textbox or inside any such control.

I have been working on this for hours now and it's driving me crazy. I am using vb.net in Visual Studio 2005. I have an asp.net textbox called xtSearch. I want it so that if the user presses the Enter key while inside the textbox to do the same thing that my button btnSearch does which is a simple response.redirect that uses txtSearch.text in its concatenation. I have tried using something like:
Private
Sub txtSearch_KeyPress(ByVal sender
As
Object,
ByVal e
As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs)
Handles txtSearch.KeyPress
but it gives me the error that, "Type System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs' is not defined." This seems so simple but it is so difficult.

I added a user control on master page and inside UserControl i add a link. and did some stuff on click of link.
Again i add another Content Page that is using the user control not the master page. Inside the table i add some textbox and save values in database . and the table is in UpdatePanel. and added ad trigger
<Triggers><asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="btnUpdate1" EventName="Click" /></Triggers>
When i remove the usercontrol entering on table textbox values works fine. and again i put the same user control the link button contol doesn't work for me.

I have an application that allows users to insert data into a log. The forms are displayed inside update panels and display via modalPopUpExtenders. I am running into a problem where users are able to click the Insert button multiple times before the panel can update that a click was registered.
How can I disable the Insert button once the user clicked on it and had time to communicate with the server? The system is allowing duplicate and triplicates to be inserted into the system.

I'm currently building a simple chat application and I have everything working real smooth except for one thing, and this problem is only in IE as far as I know (in firefox there is no problem).
In my chat application I have the textbox where the user writes the messages to the chat and the button that sends this message togheter in an updatepanel (so that there is no visible postback when pressing the button). I also have in the form tag "defaultbutton=" set to the button. The problem is that when the user uses Internet explorer and presses Enter instead of pressing the button with the mouse that after the 2 first times he/she does this causes the textbox to stop focus on it, which it shouldnt do as in the end of the button the code says it should focus, which works the 2 first times for some reason.heres the code where the problem exists:
aspx:
form id="form1" runat="server" defaultbutton="Button1">
<asp:ScriptManager ID="scriptManager" runat="server">
</asp:ScriptManager> [code].....

I am using gridview with some columns few are :
<asp:templatefield headertext="Title Description" sortexpression="Description">
<itemtemplate>
<asp:Label id="Description" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Description")%>'></asp:Label>

Now this AddGridAddBTN Temporarily adds a data row to a grid but won't submit that data to database, however AddGridSubmitBTN Submits the data to DB through foreach loop .
Now my query is i want to provide user a functionality that when he gets focus on Abbreviation Text Box OR Description Box and he after typing some data Press ENTER KEY , This ENTER KEY would provide funcionality as a AddGridAddBTN Button , and when he presses SHIFT + ENTER , It works like AddGridSubmitBTN Button , also i want to make Abbreviation and Description Field to be filled must !
Moral is that :
ENTER KEY WOULD DO : Generate a temporary row with holding previous values as it is actually doing on AddGridAddBTN Button.
SHIFT + ENTER WOULD DO : Enter the whole grid data thorugh foreach loop as it is actually doing on AddGridSubmitBTN Button.
I don't want to refresh my page on enter or shift enter pressing . This grid is binded through SQL DATA SOURCE ...

I have a usercontrol which is used for searching. There is a textbox and a search button. When the button is clicked the search method is called. I want the search also to occur when the cursor is inside the textbox and the enter key is pressed.
My first thought on how to do this was maybe to add the event to submit action of the form tag. However this usercontrol has no form tag.

I have an update panel which has 2 set of controls each in their own separate panels. We can select either panel by a checkbox list and they become visible. Now I am trying to set a value by javascript in the panel that becomes visible on my checkbox click but the problem is that I cant access the controls through javascript as they are not rendered on page as visibility is false.
I cant find the controls inside the page source even though they are visible on page so javascript cannot access them. Is there any way other than doing a postback and setting them visible to access them via javascript?

I have a boolean / bit value in the database called "is_paid". Depending on this value I want to Disable a button. (the same would go for example to set a textbox not Visible, but anyway)
What I want is to Disable the button, if my boolean is 1 (true).
First I tried to convert my boolean value to text:
<asp:Button
ID="btnCalculatePayment"
runat="server"
Text="Submit"
onclick="btnCalculatePayment_Click" Enabled='<%#
Convert.ToBoolean(Eval("is_paid")) ? "False" : "True" %>'
/>
But got an error:
CS0030: Cannot convert type 'string' to 'bool'
However, if I use it one a Label it works fine: <asp:Label
ID="lblIsPaid"
runat="server"
Text='<%#
Convert.ToBoolean(Eval("is_paid")) ? "True" : "False" %>'></asp:Label>
So another trial I did was to CAST the data from the database to be the text that I want, like so:
SELECT not_paid = CASE WHEN is_paid = 0 THEN 'True' WHEN is_paid = 1 THEN 'False' END ....
And my code changed to:
<asp:Button
ID="btnCalculatePayment"
runat="server"
Text="Submit"
onclick="btnCalculatePayment_Click" Enabled='<%#
Bind("not_paid") %>'
/>
But got this error:
System.InvalidCastException was unhandled by user code
Message=Specified cast is not valid.

When i press "enter" i dont want the first button that is on my page getting fired.
This is a imagebutton. I did try with a javascript function that checks the event keycode but this always returns 13.<script language="javascript"> function noEnter() { if (event.keyCode == 13) { return false; } } </script>
When i add OnClientClick="return false;" then you can't press the button at all.<asp:ImageButton
ID="backButton"
runat="server"
CausesValidation="false"
ImageAlign="AbsBottom"
ImageUrl="../../images/Global/back.gif"
OnClientClick="GoBack2_Click"
OnClick="GoBack_Click" OnClientClick="return false;"/>
When i click with the mouse on the button the Goback function does not get called.
So what i'm trying to get here that the imagebutton need to be clicked with a mouseclick and not with and enter keystroke.

Added <Body onkeydown = "return(event.keyCode!=13)"> into a VS2008 masterpage. Did this to disable the Enter key from basically doing a button click event. The code works great, however, we use multiline textboxes that were accepting Enter to do a newline in the textbox. Now the multiline textbox does nothing when Enter is pressed. Is there an override that would work on a single form that loads behind the master page? Ref: your Disable Enter key in TextBox to avoid postback in ASP.Net.

I am having trouble wiht my AJAX collapsible Panel Extender. I have the CPE opening a panel that contains the Table of Contents of a document being displayed on the page. A user clicks on the link for a certain part of the document, the event triggers a C# function that gets the file that particular section is contained in an displays the section. Right now you have to, of course, click on the TitlePanel to open and to close the CPE. What I want to do is have it close automatically whenever a link inside the content panel has been clicked. I have tried placing this.cpeTOC.Collapsed=true; in the functiion that gets the files but it does not work. I have also tried the autocollapse property of the CPE and it just collapses whenever someone moves thier mouse from the titlepanel.
