Web Forms :: Do PostBack Using TextBox On Lost Focus Or OnFocusOut Or OnBlur Events
Feb 20, 2013
i have a text box with autopostback= true
as in the TextChanged event i have code to get details from database.
i need to check if the text value is empty. if yes need to alert/ display a message and prevent further process.
else fetch the details frm database.
surfed the net and found that onblur and autopostback= true cannot be used for the same textbox.
whts the alternative forr acheving the desired result.

I am developing a web application in Visual Studio 2008 using ASP.NET with VB. I am using a ComboBox control from the AJAX Control ToolKit. The ComboBox gets populated from a database.On Page Load the focus is on the ComboBox control. The user can use the Down Arrow Key to drop the listed items, move up and down through it and on pressing Enter key on the highlighted item the other controls on the page (such as Text Box, DropDown List) get populated with data related with the selected item from the ComboBox on which the Enter key was pressed.What I want is that if somebody uses mouse on the ComboBox items and clicks any one item the data related to the clicked item should populate the other controls. This should also work on Lost Focus.So how do we write the Mouse Click and Lost Focus events for a ComboBox control from the AJAX Control TookKit.

I have this code to check if the textbox is empty on lost focus. Setting IsAutoPostBack = True and using TexTChanged.
Code:
if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(TextBox1.Text))
{
<Code Here>;
}
The problem is when I make any no changes on Textbox1 and goes to the next textbox, this code doesn't work. so I cant trace if the textbox is empty or not

I have created a async search of a gridview, where the displayed data only shows items that match whatever is typed into the text box. After i type the search the grid refreshes the results, but the focus goes away from the textbox itself, which gets really annoying. is there any way to keep the focus on it?

I have a search page with 3 TextBoxes that users can filter a search with.
I have put the focus on the TextBox that contains text. If more than one contains text just focus on last TextBox.
[code]...
After the code runs and a user searches, the focus comes to the beginning of the TextBox, not the end where it would be presumed. How to put insert marked at the end of that TextBox?

I've got an application that uses jquery ui datepicker on an asp.net textbox control.The control is working as intended, but I've noticed that when you postback from a server call (via submit button), the entered value gets lost in the application.Was wondering if you all have experienced this? And what measures that you have to do to prevent this?Here is my code:HTML:
<asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="txtCallsMadeFrom" class="field" EnableViewState="true">
JQuery:
var callsMadeFromId = '#<%=txtCallsMadeFrom.ClientID %>';
jQuery(callsMadeFromId).datepicker({ showOn: "button", buttonImage: "../images/calendar.gif", altFormat: 'dd/mm/yy', buttonImageOnly: true, onSelect: function () { } });

I have a simple page where I want to filter a ListBox based upon a value(s) in a textbox - both are in an UpdatePanel.This works correctly, however, after the postback the textbox had lost focus...so I set focus back in the page_load.Then I noticed that the cursor was now at the beginning of the text when I want it at the end so the user can carry on typing, so I added an onfocus(...) attribute to the textbox to set the value back to itself (see code below).This works the first two times, but then it stops setting focus to the textbox?

I've got a simple ASP.Net form with txtBox and btn.
User click btn, which adds text to an ASP:TextBox in a postback (its adding a known "starter text".
After the postback I'd like the focus to be set to the end of the text in the textbox.
If I call Page.SetFocus(...) or txtBox.Focus() then the txtBox gets focus, but at the beginning of the text - which means if the user starts typing, they'll be in the wrong place.
e.g.
cursor100-01
would like it to be
100-01cursor
I've tried the following in the textbox:
onfocus="alert('focus');this.value = this.value;"
but the "alert" only appears the first two times? Then nothing?

I have a gridview that is binded with my datasource. I have 2 template columns in my gridview, out of which one is readyonly. Both the texboxes may or may not be filled with data from the db. What I want is when the user enters some values in the textbox, then on blur of that textbox that value is multiplied by 5 and entered into the texbox next to it. Or basically I want to handle the onblur event of the texbox in a gridview.

I have an ASP.Net GridView, with two columns ("ID" and "name"). The name column is editable via an <asp:TextBox>. What I want to do is have the grid trigger its update event when the user clicks away from an editable cell.
I know I can attach an onBlur event handler to the TextBox to retrieve the value when the user clicks away. However, I don't know how to trigger the GridView's update event programmatically through JavaScript.

I have a web form where i have a key field "Account #" and ive put some live validations sort of function which validates the input text against values in database and instantly displays result if the account # is valid or invalid and ive put this on "onblur" event of the textbox.
The problem i am facing is that i have a "SAVE" button also and when user inputs account number the onblur fires and validates the input then user presses tab key fill other details and change his mind and go back to account # and type some invalid values and without pressing tab clicks on SAVE button with the mouse ..darn in this case it doesnt fire ONBLUR instead if fires SAVE event...how to overcome this problem and execute onblur first in any case.

I'm having a pretty nasty problem with an auto-completing textbox. I want to initiate an asynchronous PostBack whenever a user selects an item from the auto-completed field and retain the value of the item, rather than the text inputted. This works perfectly when enter is pressed rather than a mouse click.
An example of my issue:
Someone goes to the page, and types 1000 into the textbox. The autocomplete displays 10002, 1000B, and 10000. The user clicks on 1000B and an asynchronous PostBack initiates. Instead of 1000B, the TextBox.Text value is still 1000. My assumption is that the textbox is initiating the PostBack before the value is actually getting assigned to it.

I'm here again to share a problem that I'm fighting against for days. I'm developing an eCommerce Cart.
Within it, I have a repeater, inside of ITEMTEMPLATE I put one TextBox for product quantities and one Button, for update the quantity inserted on that textbox.
When the customer clicks over the Button, it fires a function that gets the content of the TextBox and do an update on my Database.
It works perfetly when it is done with the mouse click. But I need to fires the update function WHITHOUT the manually click event. When the customer just put the mouse out of the TextBox (onblur event), I want to fires that function.

So I've got a databound grid view within a UpdatePanel.
the user can change the data within the gridview then click a save button to update the data within the database.
However in order to know which rows have been changed I have a textChanged event associated with each textbox, but the event isn't being fired.
Here's the ASP code:
