View 1 RepliesFor example I have site http://localhost/site In IIS I set that 404 error causes redirection to default.aspx
If I type something like http://localhost/site/nodirectory , (there are no such folder) all works perfectly.
But if I only add slah at end http://localhost/site/nodirectory/, page can't display css and images.
Images and css are located in their own folder. I tried different paths: "gfx/logo.gif", "/gfx/logo.gif"
In ASP.NET MVC 2, how can I get the absolute path to the Content folder from within a model?I'm trying to check for the existence of a file by calling IO.File.Exists. So, I need to convert the "~ContentisFile.png" relative path to an absolute path.I tried getting the application's directory path by calling My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath but that returned some temporary folder that doesn't contain the Content folder.

I am working on a 3-tier asp.net application. Currently I'm stuck up in a situation where I need to handle a specific type of exception (User Defined) in DAL and Show alert to the user if that exception occurs in DAL.
I tried following things:
1) I raised that exception from the DAL and catch it in BLL and throw a new BLL exception to for that DAL exception and finally catch it in the UI layer to show the alert to the user. I've successfully implement this in my project. But there are some issues in this approach. First of all I feel this is not right way to do this as it may lead to performance related issues. Secondly, the application contains more than 500 pages and classes. so I need to attach additional catch block in every method to catch the BLL exception. which is the last option i'd like to take.
2) in second approach I logged the the DAL exception into a text file. but problem in this approach is that how could the UI layer know that exception has occurred and show the alert to the user. Is there any event in asp.net where i could handle all this activities?
my question is what is the best approach to handle this type of situation? Will Exception handling block help me in this?
I've tried reading many articles on this but i couldn't get an answer for my question? I might not be using right keywords for my search.
In ASP.NET,How can i know the Specific details about an exception (like What kind of Exception it is (FileNotFound /Arithmentc etc..) )from a General Exception class object.
View 2 RepliesExsits any way to modify the temporary folder path returned by System.IO.Path.GetTempPath() method?
My asp.net application run under iis 7.

View 1 RepliesI have a custom ASP.NET application that I utilize for several clients that I host. Each client has a separate domain and the application is normally a child application under the root domain [URL]. The application files are the same (aspx, ascx, style sheets, images, etc.). The only thing different is the web.config file for each client. As development of the application continues to evolve, I have to update the application for each directory and this obviously becoming tedious. I am trying to come up with a method keep the application up to date. My first though is placing the application into a single physical path and creating multiple applications pointing to that path (the problem with this method is I can't have different web.config files). I am curious as to what solution others are using in this scenario...
View 2 RepliesI am Final Year IT Engineering student. I am Doing Content Management System in ASP.net for my college. I have given link on my master page for various pages in the application; where I have specified only relative path of those pages. When I run this project and follow any link it works well for only first time and for second time when I click any link it .net run time environment unable to find the absolute address of that page.
View 2 RepliesWhen I press start on my VS2010/Silverlight/C# project, it opens a new instance of the included webserver and opens my browser window so I can test the application. Unfortunately something has happened and I am not sure what it was.. The browser window now opens the starting page with a local machine path (C:...page.aspx) rather than the normal webserver path through http (http://localhost:33592/page.aspx). It is a Silverlight Navigation project using c#/asp.net code behind.
View 2 Repliesi have this application structure:
1. Presentation Layer which calls
2. Business Logic Layer which in turn calls
3. Data Access Layer to do the dealing with the database.
Now i have a Contacts page from where i can add a new contact to the database.So to add a New Contact i fill in all the required details and then call a Add Method (residing in the BLL) from the page, which in turn call a Add Method residing in the DAL.this method in the DAL returns the Current Identity of the record which is then return back to the BLL method and finally delivered on the page.this is fine. but what if a get an exception how do i handle it properly because the method in DAL has a return type of int and i dont want to throw another error!! coz other wise i will have to write try catch in almost all the methods.
//something like this
public int AddMethod(ContactClass contactObj)
{
int result = 0;[code]...
rather i want to show the user a user-friendly message which they can easily understand and in the mean while i will send a mail to myself documenting the Error that just occurred.how can i implement my custom exception classes.
I am trying to convert the virtual path to a physical path but don't seem to have Server.MapPath or HttpServerUtility.MapPath available in my handler. I add the System.Web namespace with no luck.
string virtualTargetFolder = String.Format("~/UserImages/{0}/Images/", user.ProviderUserKey.ToString());
string physicalTargetFolder = System.Web.HttpServerUtility.MapPath (virtualTargetFolder);
I had applied the following code as said by you :
byte[] b = YourByteArrayFromDb;
File.WriteAllBytes(MyFilePath, b);
But I am receiving an exception "Access to the path is denied". How do I solve this using ASP.Net with C#? And is there any format to set the path as string?
I was trying to use System.IO.Path.GetFullPath("Database.mdf") in the class "DAL" in a website im creating but instead of returning :
"F:MyProjectApp_DataDatabase.mdf"
It Returns "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\DevServer\10.0\Database.mdf"
I am using to send attachent from my host.. The file is located on my abc folder on my root, so it' like this:

Is there any way to uniquely identify a particular exception from the general exception class.
i.e any property or method that retrieves a unique identifier that to identify a particular exception.
I have kept some error values and corresponding error texts in an xml file. I want to read that xml file and have to taken the error ids and fix the corresponding texts to a label. in the case of a system exception we have to identify a particular exception.
Difference between Exception and Fault Exception..?
Can i use Fault Exception when i get the Exception.
We're getting this InternalSubStringWithChecks exception with our application's healthMonitoring. This exception is like the Padding is invalid and cannot be removed exception where it's being recorded and we're getting a notification email but the end user is unaware that an actual error has happened. Though we don't want our event log filled up with this rubbish! The stack trace is:
Parameter name: length
