View 1 Repliesi have built a small mechanism for users to send and receive mail inside my website. this mail system not involving smtp, it's only messages that are saved in the site DB.
right now the only way i can see for checking if a user has new mail is to check the db in every page the user is visiting during his stay in the site which seems to be a bit cumbrous, is there any better approach of doing such thing ?
I've written a singleton class that exposes the web.config properties in a nice get property kind of way.
I want a Load method to parse the data in the config and set the public properties, and I want to throw exceptions (so they are logged in the EventLog) when a configuration key is missing or can't be parsed.
I tried placing the Load() code in Application_Start of the global.asax but then remembered this will only be run once, or until the application restarts.
Where is the best place to put code that you need to run 'everytime' your site is started/run by the user? I basically want the website to stop functioning if certain config properties cannot be loaded.
I have a new VS2010 .NET 4.0 Web project and the Properties Folder has gone wierd on me. It has lost teh "Open" under the right click. There is no way to get a Settings file created now.
I am unable to get to the Settings grid and no Settings file is created. I tried the help and it has the normal trip of select Properties, Open (right click), Settings Tab, etc. etc.

View 2 RepliesI am relatively new to ASP.NET. I am just wondering if there is way to read values from properties file (similar to rading a properties file from JSP or java).
For example if a property file has something similar to this:
[Code]....
I would like to read all the values for username_list (comma seperated) and also the value of is_valid.
I'm now working with a project of document management system using asp.net web forms. I want to handle the checkout/in concept , I don't know how to make it, how to download the file to user local machine in the checkout , and then upload from his local machine again to the server in the check in. ِAny body can tell me how this works?
View 8 Repliesi have one problem. i wrote the coding for the gridview binding and the checkbox. but at the run time, we cannot able to get
the value in the checkbox..

cmd = new SqlCommand("insert into attenancedetail values(" + Studentid_txt.Text + ",'" + Studentname_txt.Text + "','" + DepartmentDdl1.SelectedItem.ToString() + "','" + Sectionddl2.SelectedIndex.ToString() + "','" + Label2.Text + "','"
+ c + "')", con);

View 1 RepliesI currently do something like...

Now I know this works.. but what is the right way to have this? I don't want to be checking something twice instead of just having it written out once.
In an ascx control, it's possible to expose properties - let's assume the property name is a string property with a get accessor called DataField. If the ascx control contains a bindable templated control like a FormView and the FormView has a template that uses the two-way databinding syntax, why can't you provide a reference to the property in the call to the Bind method? I see that using the Bind method in a databinding expression causes the page parser to generate a method that is something like the following:
public System.Collections.Specialized.IOrderedDictionary @__ExtractValues__control8(System.Web.UI.Control @__container)
In which, I see the following line:
@__table["Some_Field"] = TextBox1.Text;
Now, this method (@__ExtractValues__control8) is an instance member on the same generated class that defines our DataField property, but when page parser goes to compile the control, I receive the following error:A call to Bind was not well formatted. Please refer to documentation for the correct parameters to Bind. I assume from this that the page parser requires a string literal to be provided, but I don't understand why.
I have an ASPX page (import.aspx) that creates a new instance of a class.
[Code]....
I set several properties during a function call in import.aspx:
[Code]....
I have confirmed that the properties are being set correctly via debugging the application.
I have a user control on import.aspx. There is a function on import.aspx that gets called by a button click on the user control.
This function is:
[Code]....
When the UploadApp function is called, CaseNo is NOTHING.
