I have a flash image slider with a button below each image. When i press that button, the user is redirected to a new page where i add that image product to my cart. The problem is that after doing the adding, i want to redirect the user back to the initial page.
The code:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
addProductToBasket(getCategoryIdFromUrl(), getProductIdFromUrl());
Response.Redirect(Request.UrlReferrer.ToString());
}
note that in Firefox is working fine but in IE or Chrome it is DOWNLOADING the swf...If i comment Response.Redict(...) the user remains on this page so the click button is working well, only the redirect seems to be the problem.
Edit: The problem seems to be that Request.UrlReferrer keeps as link not the initial page containing the swf but the swf itself.
So, instead of doing redirect to:[URL] if does redirect to the swf contained on the Index.aspx page[URL]
Solved: with a session variable where i keep the initial page's url

here's the code so far:
[Code]....
[Code]....
mov is a quicktime file, my server has the mimetype: video/quicktime .......... but as I read, this code forces the save as download box which is exactly what i want :) now, here's the catch, i the file I am fetching is NOT on the physical path... it is on a completely different server:Protected Sub LinkButton1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles LinkButton1.Click
Response.Clear()
Response.ContentType = "x-msdownload"
Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", ("attachment; filename=mydownload.mov"))
Response.TransmitFile("http://myOTHERserver.com/files/mydownload.mov")
Response.End()
End Sub
Obviously this doesn't work since TransmitFile requires that the file be on your physical path, so how do i do this? Someone said you must use the stream method. Do you have any sample code I could try? I've tried the HTTPStreamReader object but it's giving me issues, so I would love to find out if there is anyway this might work. Now here's some more important information: this are HUGE video files.. we are creating a downloads page... written in asp.net -- so you create an account using the .net membership class, then you select the file you want, go through a form where you enter your billing info and then after you pay a certain fee (this is already implemented), you go to your "downlaods" area in your account... there you have access to the files......... the reason i'm doing this is because i want to hide the download link, which will be something likehttp://myOTHERserver.com/2340987sdfkjhalsdlkjh23 ... (something really crazy)....... we don't want people seeing this on the status bar (Therefore hiding the download link is ESSENTIAL)........ the files are a good 500MB each approximately; so i would love to hear all of your suggestions as to making the streamreader work for me and how long would it take for the streamreader to READ the file........

I have been supplied this example for a force download[URL]However, what I would like to know what to do is to hide from the users the physical file path from the users as they do not have direct access to this server. Is there away for me to keep this file path private on a download?

I have made an application where I am displaying the .pdf , .doc , .docx files. These files are uploading from an Admin Panel.When user place a mouse pointer on download icon provided in front of every file, it shows the complete path where it’s get saved.I want to avoid this path visibility even when user place mouse on download icon and even if it Inspect an element (as most modern browser will have this functionality).

I'm about to submit my pad file to multiple sharware sites but the pad file has to have a direct link to the download file and can't link to a download page which is what I would like to do, so I can track the traffic and get the downloader's email before allowing the download. I am running an ASP.NET site in VB. Is there a way to tell the web app to redirect to a specific aspx page when it receives a request for a specific file?

I want to redirect to "~/City/Göteborg", but if I just write Response.Redirect("~/City/Göteborg"); I will end up with an ugly URL in the address-bar like this: http://www.mysite.com/City/G%c3%b6teborg..
So my question is how to redirect to obtain a clean url like http://www.mysite.com/City/Göteborg?

Is it necessary to call Response.End() after Response.Redirect(url) Update for all the answers. Because some answers say that it's necessary and others say no, I have searched more and have found in msdn under remarks the following: Redirect calls End which raises a ThreadAbortException exception upon completion.

I have a DataGrid which is populated by a list of the .doc files in a folder.When one of the items in the list is clicked the browser should then download that file for the user to open. At the moment when one of the items is clicked the browser attempt to download the file from the root folder of the website, is there a simple line of code I can use to say 'download the file from "root/folder/folder/folder/filename.doc" instead of from "root/filename.doc"Currently I am using this code:

I am using a gridview to display (open or save) files that have been uploaded into a SQL 2005 server. I have a templatefield within the gridview that contains a linkbutton that does a postback to GetUploadedFile.aspx that then fires the response.binarywrite() code. The code seems to work fine and opens/saves the files correctly. But once this has completed and I try and click on another button on the page, instead of doing the appropriate action it re-fires the getuploadedfile.aspx binarywrite code and opens up the "Open/Save/Cancel" dialog again.

Here's my code:
[Code]....
What this code does at the end is Redirects to a direct download, and THEN afterwards, to a "tutorial page" on how to use the download. I can't seem to use these back to back. I've even used Response.Redirect(tutorialURL, false) so it wouldn't terminate processing, but it didn't work. It just STOPPED page processing. I've tried to use the Sleep() method of the Threading namespace, no luck. I'm sure there's an easy way to do this, I just don't know what it is.

I have a site that uses authentication. I will be displaying links to other sites.Currently I am using Link Buttons because the link maybe to another site or a file in our DB so the Link Button allows me to place the DB id field into the command argument.So when the user clicks on one of the buttons I check to see if it match's a web site and if so I want to direct the user to the site. Here is the code.
[Code]....
strfile being the text of the button. This works, however it opens it in the same window which is less then desirable. I would like to open it in a new window. I have triedclient side scripting, I have tried process.start, and other ways to open the link in a new window. When I use these methods and I click on the button the page posts back but the link is never opened. I do have the Link Buttons inside a update panel and haveadded the button as a trigger with the same results. I have also moved the button out side of the update panel same results. Also the Link Buttons are inside a panel control.Another point this is being done in the code behind VB.net.

In one section of my site I have a response.redirect that calls a PHP script and returns to PDF file to a save/open dialog box.
This works -
Response.Redirect("http://webaddress.com/get_proof.php?rep=" & rep.ToString("000")
& "&filename=" & ViewState("sjobnoproof") &
"_s.pdf")
In another section i get the security warning from IE on the top. Users have to say yes and page refreshes and they to go back and do it again.
Response.Redirect("http://webaddress.com/get_ar.php?path=" & ViewState("reportsfranid")
& "_ADMIN/Client Files/Group" & ViewState("reportsgroup") &
"/" & ViewState("reportsrepid") &
"_" & ViewState("reportslastname") &
"&filename=" &
"CON_Modified.pdf")

I know this has been asked many times and have saw the posts that it cant be done and there are alternative solutions.
The caveat is that after clicking on the button this will load a new page with the target URL but I would want the current web form to remain as it is. That is essentailly two web forms side by side?
