Which is the best way (in performance and security) to send multiple parameters to a web page (on a different server), considering that the length of the parameters may vary because I'm sending a list of products, and the customer may have selected more than one product, so we need to send each product on the querystring to the other page. For example (I'm on C#); I want to call a web page like this:
Simple Querystring: thepage.asp?Product=1&Name=Coffee&Value=1.99
Json: thepage.asp?{"Product":"1","Name":"Coffee","Value":"1.99"}
XML: thepage.aps?<xml><Products><product>1</product><name>Coffee</name><Value>1.99</Value></Products>
(Obviouly considering we can't send special characters via querystring, but I put them here for better understanding) Which will be the better way (performance, security)?
I am trying to send an ASIN number into the querystring from a hyperlink and I'm having trouble getting the correct syntax. Any ideas?
<asp:HyperLink ID="hlProductPage" Enabled="true" runat="server" NavigateUrl="ProductPage.aspx?ASIN=<%# Eval("ASIN")%>">Read More...</asp:HyperLink>
i have some form with few textboxes, i need to send it to another page (asmx) in different server. in this asmx page there is a code handler the data. how can i send all the data without using querystring or server.transfer (the page located on outer server).
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to send a string of XML as part of the query string. Normally I'd POST this XML but I'm sending it to a 3rd party system that I can't POST stuff to. So, as it goes, I need the 3rd party system to request the services of one of the pages in my system. (explanation: the 3rd party system produces PDFs of my web pages. I give it a URL to my page, and it PDF's that page. So, the XML file contains data that I need to generate the page) Anyway, I'm getting my query string as follows:
string data = Server.UrlEncode(xmlSnippet.ToString());
string sFullUrl = urlString + "?data=" + data;
I give the 3rd pary system this URL, and it calls my page.. except the request doesn't reach the page. It's failing into the Application_Error handler with this message:
"A potentially dangerous Request.QueryString value was detected from the client (data=[my XML data])" As I know the data I'm sending is safe, is there any way I can make this work?
What has gone wrong. NOTE in both cases I got the blue wavy line under txFindCandidate but when free within a ContentPlaceHolder the code works.... when nested within LogInView LoggedInTemplate it fails.

View 1 RepliesI have passed the value from one page to next page using a querystring. In the next page i need to get the value from the query string and based on the value, it needs to checked with the database and the result set should be placed in the gridview, details view or listview anything else.
Ex: Response.redirect("user.aspx?id="+userinput.text);
userdetails.aspx?id=vicky - url
table:
user mobileno email
vicky 9848752322 ervigsh@gmail.com
In the details view or list view control, I need to get the value vicky from the url and based on the value's row in the database table need to be binded in any of the mentioned above controls.
I'm rewriting a messaging module and the old asp application has a send button image and it used HTML submit button. My new application is asp.net. Can I use the asp send button image to response.redirect to the View message page?
View 3 RepliesI make one texbox and one button. What i want to realize is that people fill the message into textbox and then click button. The content of that message will automatically send to my email address.
View 13 RepliesThe following code works well as long as I pass a querystring value to the datalist.
Private Sub BindGrid()
Dim id As Integer = Integer.Parse(Context.Request.QueryString("id"))
Dim strConnString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("Conn").ConnectionString
Using con As New SqlConnection(strConnString)
Using cmd As New SqlCommand()
cmd.CommandText = "select Id, Name from tblFiles where Id=@Id"
[Code] ......
However, the page errors with the message "Value cannot be null." if I don't pass a value. I know that DataList does not have an EmptyItem Property like a Gridview control. I do not want the page to error if I don't pass a value. Need info to deal with empty values in a datalist.
Most websites have pointed me to this code to use:
<FooterTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="lblEmpty" Text="No Result" runat="server"
Visible='<%#boolean.parse(([b]list[/b].Items.Count=0).ToString())%>'>
</asp:Label>
</FooterTemplate>
The 'list' throws an error. The error is "Too few type arguments to 'System.COllections.Generic.List". I am not sure if the code is written in C# and that is what is causing the error. It seems that it should work but I can not figure out the 'list' error.
protected void GridView3_RowCommand(object sender, GridViewCommandEventArgs e)
{
if (e.CommandName == "Drill")
{
int index = Convert.ToInt32(e.CommandArgument);
GridViewRow selectedRow = GridView3.Rows[index];
TableCell sitenamecell = selectedRow.Cells[1];
string Site = sitenamecell.Text;
Session["Location"] = Site;
lblSession.Text = Session["Location"].ToString();
Response.Redirect("DisplayForm.aspx");
Before I go the route of using hidden fields or something similar, is there any way to send back to the server changes to the disabled state of an ASP.net Button control? I have a Button that is initially enabled and I disable it via jQuery on the client. Works great. The only problem is when I do a PostBack the server still thinks the Button is enabled and sends back a response that changes it back to enabled. Why doesn't the ViewState send back the current disabled status of the Button? Is there a way to force it to postback the changes? Other ASP.net controls, like the CheckBox, do send back the state changes to the server. Seems odd to me.
View 3 RepliesI am new to ASP.NET and have made a register page, 'get' which on submitting redirects to another page 'pick1' displaying the data in Gridview. In each row of the Gridview there are 'View' buttons which on clicking opens a pop-up page having 2 buttons 'send mail' and 'cancel'. On clicking 'send Mail' button, i want selected row of data to be sent by email instead of the entire gridview. Right now only the entire gridview data is coming to my mail. Also i want to attach a link to the email so that it redirects to the 'pick1' page again on clicking in email. How can I do it?
Below is my code for 'pick1' page:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (!IsPostBack)
{
this.BindData();
[Code] ....
And the image of my 'pick1' and 'popup' page:
Actually i use button send mail option .
View 1 RepliesI'm intermittently seeing this exception being thrown:
A potentially dangerous Request.QueryString value detected
However when I look in the IIS logs I can see that the request that failed has no querystring logged against it.
How could this be? Are "dangerous" query strings being stripped from the log or something?
In my website I am developing "simple messaging system".I have 3 ASP controls on .aspx page, i.e., ListBox (that shows online users), multiline Textbox(to write a message) and Button("send" button, which sends message to the selected online users of ListBox)I am unable to implement below requirement:I have to select multiple online users from "ListBox", then type a message in multiline "Textbox" and click on "Send button". These messages are temporary so can not be stored in Database. I have to store them using "Application and Dictionary class".From these "Application and Dictionary class" I have to show the messages inside Pop up to the selected(from ListBox) online users.
