Web Forms :: How To Access Ascx Control From Content Pages
Feb 25, 2010
I have a master page with a ascx control I use for a header. There is a label in HeaderControl1 I need to set from the content pages. I was able to make the changes in the master template as a tes by just calling the control and accessing the property.
Today I got a strange problem, that is I am unable to access master page controls in its code behind,I am wonder because,I can able to access master page controls in their code behind of other projects/applications's master pages.
I know we can acess like this Label lblText = (Label)this.FindControl("lbluserName"); in that situation but I need to access div controls which are set to run at server.
I have a variable in an aspx file I need to use/recover it's value into an ascx web control that's in this aspx file. It's possible to do it? The aspx dynamically loads web controls depending the scenario, so this web control not allways is loaded.
I have over 300 content pages to create. Each has some standard styling. I would like to generate these pages, and was just wondering if there is a utility in web developer 2008 express to do so (otherwise I will just build one - but it would be great not having to do so!)
I want the AdRotator control functionality where content pages on page load but instead of using images I want to use html and other controls like textboxes and buttons. Is this possible?
I am having a slight problem with adding text (output from a stored procedure) to a label control that is nested inside a contentplaceholder (ContentPlaceHolderProductsLeftCol). The page is also using master pages.
Below are excerts of the code - I think I would have to use teh findcontrol property however I am quite lost.
Label name is lastname and is located in ContentPlaceHolderProductsLeftCol
I'm building form validation controls for our C# ASP application. The bulk of the work is handled by a BaseValidator control (subclassing System.Web.UI.UserControl), which also has the markup for the validation output. This is then extended by subcontrols like PasswordValidator, that provides the Validate method and any extra fields needed by that validator control.
(The end goal is to have controls like <uc1:PasswordValidator ControlId="txtPassword" /> which we can plop into any form with minimum duplication.)
However, PasswordValidator.ascx.cs cannot access the form elements defined in BaseValidator.ascx; the only way I've found to do so is to duplicate the markup in each subcontrol's *.ascx file. How can I extend BaseValidator.ascx.cs and access BaseValidator.ascx's markup in the subclass?
I have a main master page, say MasterPageMain, and a couple of folders with couple of pages in each folder which act as a child page to that master page - MasterPageMain.
Now, I have about 10 pages in one of the folder which follows a certain pattern and they could really use a nested pages since any change on some parts needs me to change all the pages which is a pain really.
I already added a Nested master page, say NestedMasterPage - which is a child of MasterPageMain
I tried to change one of the page's <%@ Page directive to NestedMasterPage, immediately, there were a lot of errors. plus I dint know where the NestedMasterPage's children content would go.
What do I need to know in order to do this succesfully?
ps: I dint do this initially because I only had 2 pages, and I dint need this at that time, as the project grew, now i see that I should have changed it much earlier..
I have a simple website with a master-page. To set properties to elements on a content page (such as Textbox) I use CSS. In designer it works well but when I launch a site a style isn't apllied to controls. The reason is simple. To say, I have a TextBox with id="TextBox1" in content page, it is placed in ContentPlaceHolder1. In CSS file I set properties for object with id #TextBox1. When I launch a site due to master page name mangling it gets an id like ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_TextBox1 which is not defined in CSS file included in masterpage. What is a correct solution of this problem? Hardcoding mangled name doesn't seem to be good.
I will be getting data through wcf service coming form commerce server (instead of DB). Data which is coming will be in the form big html content with all html tags or may be a single line sentence. I should display this dynamic data into the placeholder in the content page (master content page). I have been trying but not able to load when the data is in the form of HTML page. html content or may be single lline of senetence.
How to I put this form on my page? The problem is I have a master page which wraps the content pages content in the ASP.net form, I can't nest the forms.
I am having difficulties how to construct my question, but if I have to put it simply the situation is that I have categories of products. I have an aspx with a repeater on the left that lists the categories. And I want the products to be listed on the right. Category number is variable so I made an ascx with a DataList in it. When I try to do foreach category, ascx = new ascx(); then the DataList within this ascx control is null.
ps: what I want to do is to preload all the products (thre is not much) and hide the divs and fadein fadeout them using jQuery when a category div is clicked.
rightnow it is using jQuery.load(); and I don't like how the images load, cuz they download from top to bottom. Progressive gifs alsdo not an option. site demo is here [URL]
I am trying to access the txtNotes textbox on the MasterPage using the following code and I get and error saying "Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
My requirement was to share master files among diff projects i read this doc [URL] so i use this technique to share msster pages among my diff projects in a soln but i dnt know how to reference such shared master page as if i use such
We are developing a framework which will be shared accross applications. What is the best way to share master pages, user controls accross applications by preventing other developers to modify the master pages and the user controls ?
Is the following way suitable one ? Embedding masterpages and the user controls in a dll and using VirtualPathProvider to load the master pages and user controls dynamically.
But in this approach developers can not view the design. Is there any other way to convert master pages and user controls to a different format as developers can able to view design?
m hoping someone might know what's going on with this issue.I have a directy called _controls where I store all of my .ascx pages for use in my site.I have a master page that has a link to my .css file for the whole site. The individual .aspx pages are reading the style sheet with no issues. But the .ascx pages keep flagging the class as undefined in the code view, and when I execute them on the actual site, the style doesn't take effect.I have a theory. Because I have the link in the master page defined as
"/Public/ASP.css"
the _controls directory .ascx files aren't linking properly. Any one run across this before?
I would like to put a login.ascx on all pages. I would like if I write in my datas with error the usercontrol shows the error and stays on the same page.
I have a master page setup that is used throughout my site that is basically a header with a menu. I recently added a textbox and a button to this master page which is to be a quick search box that is available anywhere in the site. When a user enters text into the search box and hits the button, I need to load the actual content page which is used to search and show search results (which also uses this same master page), and have the text entered available so the search can be triggered automatically. Again, this search text box and button is now in my master page so it could be triggered from anywhere in the app... it serves as a convenient way to do a basic search from anywhere in my app, without having to first navigate to the actual 'search page' that already exists. You can also navigate to the actual search page, which uses the same master page, where there is many more search options.I'm thrown off by the master page arrangement, which I have not used until this project. What do I do?
I wanted to have the Editor control without the toolbars and found this guide: [URL]
The guide shows you how to make your own class derived from the Editor class, and gives some overload functions to remove the toolbars, and only have the bold and italics button.
I made my own "customEditorSample.aspx", and was able to reproduce what was in the guide.
However, in customEditorSample.cs, when I try to access the Content property of the control, it won't show up in the intellisense.
When using the regular Editor ajax control, I can save the contents to a label by doing:
Label1.Text = Editor1.Content; and "Content" would appear in the intellisense after typing the period after Editor1.
how can i add title and meta tags for content pages in a project base on master and content page(dinamically) ?
i used the blow method for master page :
[code]....
and the error is :(in line *)
Error 17 'System.Web.UI.MasterPage' does not contain a definition for 'SetMetaTags' and no extension method 'SetMetaTags' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Web.UI.MasterPage' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
