I find that the password can only retrieved by method GetPassword() in asp.net2.0 Membership.In fact, we can get the password when we get the user infomation from database and set it as a property of user(object of MemberhsipUser) just as user.Email, user.UserName, etc.
It's clear that adopting the second resolution(property) can reduce one trip between server and database and more convenient. But why Microsoft don't do like this? For secruity reason? Then why is it less secure to set the password as property?

I want to ask that what happens when I make a database request (using Linq-To-Sql). Active thread is blocked and waits for response, or it is used to process other requests?
Do frameworks like Linq-To-Sql or Linq-To-Entities handle this?
If I use Sleep() method on thread, is that thread blocked or is it used to process other requests?

I need to asychronously call a web service from an ASP.NET application. The aspx does not need the answer from the web service. It's just a simple notification.
I'm using the ...Async() method from web service stub and <%@Page Async="True" %>.
ws.HelloWorldAsync();
My problem: the web page request is waiting for the web service response.
How to solve this problem? How to avoid any resource leak when the web service is down or when there is an overload?

I have MVC application (applies to non MVC as well) where a user is posting in data. I need to take this data, send it off to two seperate end points (one using a WebRequest form POST and one using a Web Service), parse the result, and send the result back to the original user.
The issue at hand is that both end points take about 20-30 seconds to respond (response is a string) which means that I should probably execute these two calls asynchronously. At the same time I want to wait to respond to the original user until I get both results back. I am guessing I might have to use some sort of object lock so the response does not get sent back before the two calls are complete?
Based on the responses I decided to go with async controllers since I am already working with a MVC application.

I am using a third party service for location time(zonal).If I pass latitude and longitude of the location with service URL it returns the time of that location in XML format.But the problem is some of the time this service gets too much slow so because of that my home page gets stuck because its a synchronous call of that service.here my code-
string TimeZoneUrl = "http://ws.geonames.org/timezone?";
XmlDocument xmlDoc = new XmlDocument();
xmlDoc.Load(TimeZoneUrl + "lat=" + latitude + "&lng=" + longitude);
XmlElement root = xmlDoc.DocumentElement;
XmlNodeList nodes = root.SelectNodes("//*");
How can I make this a asynchronous call?

I have a web service that has a CreateReport method that generates a report based on the specified criteria.
When I call this method Synchronously using a Windows Application or Console Application, the call works fine and the report is created.
When I call this method ASynchronously (CreateReportASync) using Windows Application the report is created.
When I call this method ASynchronously (CreateReportASync) using Console Application the web service does not even get the call.
I am using VS2005 and .Net Framework 2.0. So the proxy is automatically created with the Async methods. I am not really interested the result of the method call, so I do not add a Callback Delegate.

I have an ActiveX object which extends some functions. I have a web page that loads the ActiveX object and calls its methods in Javascript. The ActiveX object has two method; the problem is that Javascript can successfully call one of them but fails to call the other; citing Object doesn't support this property or method which is nonsense because I made a VB6.0 application that successfully calls this other method, so the two functions are indeed extended correctly and performing their job. And yes, the Internet Explorer security zones are all set and everything, as I wrote above the javascript code can call one method but refuses to call the other.

I have a web form that submits user data to a database, then submits the same data to a web service via a method that is only available as synchronous. It can take a while to run, and there's no reason for a user to wait for it (it's already in the database). I'm wondering about possible solutions. One approach I though of would be to add the request to MSMQ and create a windows service to listen for new messages, then call the web service. I'm wondering if it's also possible to use global.asx or an httpModule, since they opperate at the application level (not too familiar with either one though).

I have a web method in my code behind:
[System.Web.Services.WebMethod]
public static string GetStateData(string state)
{
//this is where i want to call a javascript method "GetItems"
}
I have a javascript method that retrieves some values for me and I want to get use one of those values in my web method
function GetItems() {
var variable1= $("#<%=Item1.ClientID %> input:checked");
var variable2= $("#<%=Item2.ClientID %>").val();
return [variable1.text(), variable2.val(), variable2];}
I've searched for ways to call the javascript method from the web method but every time my search results in how to call a web method from javascript.
I did find this but it was done from the code-behind of a silverlight project and when I tried adding the correct reference to my code-behind it wasn't there
var result = HtmlPage.Window.Invoke("GetItems"); Is there a reference I'm missing?

I am just learning ASP.Net and i am more using C# as code behind than vb.I am trying to call a method of the code behind (file.aspx.cs) from the (file.aspx).I know how to do it the easy way:- create a button from ASP.Net and double click on it than the property "onclick" will be linked to the method.But i don't know how to do it from a query:
- By example, from an Access database,i use the syste, [using System.Data.OleDb;] and i made a query and display it into a standar object named "Table" which has rows (tablerow) and cells (tablecell) and the cells have one of their properties which is "Controls" where developers can add button (regular button, image button, link button, etc). With i display the buttons from the database, i can not call a method from code behind! I can't either use their properties "onclick" to call i method i created in the code behind.Is there a way to do it ?

I have a web application I am working on that uses a master page. I am reading I create a LinkButton in the codebehind file for the page. When the link is clicked on the webpage, it does not even call the method defined for it. I have tried multiple ways of doing this and nothing seems to work for me. The page that has the link is also the page that will display the data for the related record. Can anyone provide me with a way to get the linkbutton to call the method?kButton is created and added to a dynamic table on the page
/* setup a link button to display the member name
* and add the cell to the row */
LinkButton
memberLink = new
LinkButton();

I have a link button inside a repeater. How would I directly call the serverside (ItemCommand) method during postback. I want to skip the page_load. The wierd thing happening is, if I put (!Postback) it doesn't execute other methods on postback but it does if I don't set the !postback condition. I have repeater inside a updatepanel in UserControl.

I have a few custom composite controls that set their cssclass only when calling their ApplyStyleSheetSkin method.I worked around this by creating a function which recursively walks through all controls on a page and calls that method, but I was wondering if there isn't a way to do this automatically? (i.e. how do I tell the aspx page to call the ApplyStyleSheetSkin method inside the controls?
