Nov 11, 2010I have a 3 layer aps.net application (DAL, BLL,PL)
I wanted to create a horizantal menu and then to populate/enable/disable the items of the menu depending on the user has permision of a specific form/page or not.
The backend/ data base work is complete. I give rights to a user/role on a specific page and I
also develope functions/procedures to check the user rights/retrieve all pages on which the user has rights.
The missing part is the front end, How I can implement this on the front end?
If I got some standard way, I will immplement it in all my future asp.net apps, As most of our apps have some menu and we want to display mentu items to the user depneding on the rights.
I may want to clear one thing here that I want a horizantal menu but there is no horizantal menu in aps.net tree view.

Jul 6, 2010In My project i want to use the mvccontrib [URL] to auto generate grid by passing the DataTable to the Grid. Currently Grid does not support this. Grid takes IEnumerable(Of T) and auto generate columns. Is their any way i can achieve this by passing DataTable. Or How do i convert the DataTable to IEnumerable(Of T). My DataTable is completely Dynamic i don't know number of columns or names of the columns at design time. DataTable completely dynamic number of columns are not fixed it just any DataTable. In Short i want to convert Dynamic DataTable to IEnumerable(Of T). Or Is their any better way.
1) One way i tried is using .net 4.0 Dynamic, DynamicObject and ExpandoObject I created a dynamic class as shown here [URL]. I trid passing IEnumerable(Of SampleDynamicObject) but BuildColumns() method is not able to find out the proprieties dynamically added on to it.
2) I think Second way to modify the AutoGenerateColumns() method to work with DataTable, But it looks impossible as Grid Get initialize using IEnumerable(Of T) and all the call on grid for method is using IEnumerable(Of T). So it's come down to converting DataTable to IEnumerable(Of T) and my DataTable are dynamic i don't know their structure at design time So i can't write any specific class to create a object and convert DataTable to IEnumerable(Of T).

Moreover, what about if I want to apply security on what to show in the menu. For instance, I will have 3 departments ( Finance, Accounting and Marketing ) each department has its own apsx page. I already try fix it with z-index but nothing happen, the dropdown still appears in front of asp:menu. is a bug in IE6, or there is a workaround? This not happen with IE7, IE8 and Firefox.

Mar 1, 2011I've migrated a test site to asp.net 4.0 to take advantage of the list renderingmode for a menu. Having the UL and LI should be easier than the table rendering.I'm making progress, (still have work to do, just ignore the odd border) however one issue continues to plague the testing. IN IE 6,7,8, as the page is rendering, it appears the menu is flickering and trying to render as a vertical menu instead of the correct
orientation which is horizontal. In Moz, Chrome, Sarafi, Opera, I don't get this behavior.
The menu is styled with CSS however I'm not opposed to adding some corrective code directly to the masterpage that holds the menu. I'd apprecate a suggestion as to how to solve this because as it is, it is not usable.Here is the link to the test site.

Jun 9, 2010im having difficulty with a project I'm working on. The project has many data tables however it's three that im concerned with. The tables are applicants, position applied for and positions. In one part of the project I have created a formview which inserts users to our applicants table. This is working fine however now I want the option within the formview for users to be able to select from a checkbox list the positions that they are applying for. I want to pull data from the positions table and the current formview and insert that information to the position applied for table. The primary key for "Applicants" is CSVC, PK for "Positions" Table is PositionID, Key for "Position applied for" is CSVC and PositionID.
