Web Forms :: How To Read Data File From Website Currently Running Machine
Jan 4, 2013
my form is having a label and a button, assume that you opened my website in ur system through url and now when u click the button it has to read a text file from the specified path in ur machine and display the data in label. i mean whatever machine is running my program it has to read the data from specific path from current running client machine.
I have developed an application where I need to create a page to read data from Excel File and then update it to the database. The code that I wrote works only when the application runs from my machine. When I deployed the application to the server it gave an error- 'C:PRFileIimport_File.xls' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides. here is mu code -
protected void InsertData(object sender, EventArgs e) { OleDbConnection oConn = new OleDbConnection (@"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=C:\PuertoRicoFile\Puertorico_Iimport_File.xls ; Extended Properties=Excel 8.0 "); OleDbCommand oCmd = new OleDbCommand("select * from [Puertorico_Data$]", oConn); oConn.Open(); //Here [Puertorico_Data$] is the name of the sheet in the Excel file where the data is present OleDbDataReader oleDbReader = oCmd.ExecuteReader(); string AgentIP = ""; string TagName = ""; string Status = ""; string Severity = ""; int EventCount = 0; string EarliestEvent = ""; string LatestEvent = ""; while (oleDbReader.Read()) { AgentIP = (string)oleDbReader[0]; // valid(oleDbReader, 0);//Here we are calling the valid method TagName = (string)oleDbReader[1]; //valid(oleDbReader, 1); Status = (string)oleDbReader[2]; //valid(oleDbReader, 2); Severity = (string)oleDbReader[3]; //valid(oleDbReader, 3); EventCount = Convert.ToInt32(oleDbReader[4]); //oleDbReader[0]; //valid(oleDbReader, 4); EarliestEvent = (string)oleDbReader[8]; //validate(oleDbReader, 8); EarliestEvent = EarliestEvent.Substring(0, 19); LatestEvent = (string)oleDbReader[9]; //validate(oleDbReader, 9); LatestEvent = EarliestEvent.Substring(0, 19); InsertDataIntoSql(AgentIP, TagName, Status, Severity, EventCount, EarliestEvent, LatestEvent); } SqlConnection mySQLconnection = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["IssNetworkReportingSystemConnString"].ConnectionString); mySQLconnection.Open(); SqlCommand cmdSql = new SqlCommand("AddMonth_Event_TotalInfo_for_Puertorico", mySQLconnection); cmdSql.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; dbReader = cmdSql.ExecuteReader(); dbReader.Close(); cmdSql = new SqlCommand("AddQtr_Event_TotalInfo_for_Puertorico", mySQLconnection); cmdSql.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; dbReader = cmdSql.ExecuteReader(); dbReader.Close(); oConn.Close(); lblMsg.Text = "Data Imported Sucessfully"; lblMsg.ForeColor = System.Drawing.Color.Green; } public void InsertDataIntoSql(string agentIP, string tagName, string Stat,string severity,int eventCount, string eEvent, string lEvent) {//inserting data into the Sql Server SqlConnection mySQLconnection = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["IssNetworkReportingSystemConnString"].ConnectionString); mySQLconnection.Open(); SqlCommand sqlSelect = new SqlCommand("SELECT SeverityID from Severity where SeverityDesc=@SeverityDesc",mySQLconnection); sqlSelect.CommandType = CommandType.Text; sqlSelect.Parameters.Add("@SeverityDesc", SqlDbType.NVarChar).Value = severity; dbReader = sqlSelect.ExecuteReader(); int severityId = Convert.ToInt32(dbReader.Read()); dbReader.Close(); SqlCommand sqlInsert = new SqlCommand("Insert into IdsData_Puertorico(AgentIP,TagName,Status,SeverityID,EventCount,EarliestEvent,LatestEvent)" + " values (@AgentIP,@TagName,@Status,@SeverityID,@EventCount,@EarliestEvent,@LatestEvent )" ,mySQLconnection); sqlInsert.CommandTimeout = 0; //timeout unlimited sqlInsert.CommandType = CommandType.Text; sqlInsert.Parameters.Add("@AgentIP", SqlDbType.NVarChar).Value = agentIP; sqlInsert.Parameters.Add("@TagName", SqlDbType.NVarChar).Value = tagName; sqlInsert.Parameters.Add("@Status", SqlDbType.NVarChar).Value = Stat; sqlInsert.Parameters.Add("@SeverityID", SqlDbType.Int).Value = Convert.ToInt32(severityId); sqlInsert.Parameters.Add("@EventCount", SqlDbType.Int).Value = Convert.ToInt32(eventCount); sqlInsert.Parameters.Add("@EarliestEvent", SqlDbType.DateTime).Value = DateTime.Parse(eEvent); sqlInsert.Parameters.Add("@LatestEvent", SqlDbType.DateTime).Value = DateTime.Parse(lEvent); sqlInsert.CommandType = CommandType.Text; sqlInsert.ExecuteNonQuery(); mySQLconnection.Close(); }
My site contain dynamic default page that consist of webparts.When i run my project on local server in my web browser msg gets display page isn't redircted properly.
2. I have PC, on which file to copy to device is located, with Active Sync installed and IE running which has a page in that IE has rendered by server #1.
3. I have a DEVICE connected to desktop #2 via AS.
I would like to copy file from a local machine to the device which is connected to this machine. My application is located in a webserver.
I've created a new ASP.NET Dynamic Data website and have used LINQ-to-SQL for the framework. I start up the application and it displays my tables fine and I can browse them - but it doesn't give me any create/update/delete abilities - all I can do is read? I didn't change anything from the defaults - what gives?
I basically want to transfer a file from the client to the file storage server without actual login to the server so that the client cannot access the storage location on the server directly. I can do this only if i manually login to the storage server through windows login. I dont want to do that. This is a Web-Based Application.
protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { filePath = FileUpload1.FileName; try { WebClient client = new WebClient(); NetworkCredential nc = new NetworkCredential(uName, password); Uri addy = new Uri("\\192.168.1.3\upload\"); [code]...
I have some shell scripts on a Windows 2003 server. These scripts process some flat files and upload data to Oracle using sqlldr. Currently I'm using telnet to go into the box and run each of these scripts manually. Is there a way that these scripts can be run from a ASP.Net/Winforms application?
I'm pretty new in the world of ASP.Net, but not on developing in general. I created a webservice which read data from a SQl-database. This works fine. Now I want to create a customer website which uses the webservice to read those data. I need to do this periodically, say every 10 seconds.
The profiler on the database and debugging the website tells me that the values are read good, even is they are changed in de database. But, I need to display those values on a label, but this won't work, only with a meta-refresh every 10 seconds.Is there a way to use a timer and refreshes labels ?
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.
Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".
Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.
However, when I ran this, I got the following error:
Could not create Windows user token from the credentials specified in the config file. Error from the operating system 'Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.
I looked at this post

It seemed to suggest I would need to create a new account on the remote server. Is there a way I can just use an existing domain account?
My client gave me this web solution, in it various projects, and the problematic project (for me) is the Web Site.
I've copied the code to test web server (2008) and installed VS 2008 so I could step through the code on the server due to some weirdness.
Anyhow, when I open the solution locally on my personal computer, it runs on Cassini [URL] because I'm not on a server OS. However, when I run the app on the web server, when I hit F5, it runs oh [URL].
When I'm running the code on the server, how do I point the web site to use Cassini?
I am trying to access a wcf service hosted on a server running on a virtual machine on a windows 2008 R2 hyperv. When i access this service when running my asp.net website through code everything works fine how ever when i deploy the application on the local IIS , in the deployed mode i am getting an securityaccessdeined exception. My Asp.net app is running on a IIS server on another virtual machine. The stack trace is as given below :

This is a general ASP.NET question. I have an asp.net site that is hosted on domain A. The site works fine and uses a session when user login. I have a new empty site on domain B (different server). I tried to load the same site on domain B by calling it in an HTML IFrame site load and works but it seems that user con not login, after some experiments I think his is related to the session not working. Can I run the site on an IFrame? Sessions should work?
I used PopupControl Extender to display row details from a gridview, and need to update the two textboxes, but the changed value in the textboxes did not get picked up when click the update button on the popup window, so I need to get client side javascript to read the new changed value from these text boxes. However, I tried a few way, none worked for me, not sure what is wrong.
1. Add a javascript function in the .aspx file and use onclientclick of the linkbutton control to call the function, I got error of "Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object required".
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> function newTextValue(textbox) { var text = document.getElementById("TextBox1").Value; alert(text); } </script) <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("GalleryTemplateName") %>' Height="20px" Width="230px" style="text-align: left"></asp:TextBox> <asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButton2" runat="server" Font-Bold="True" CommandArgument='<%# Eval("GalleryTemplateId") %>' oncommand="LinkButton2_Click" OnClientClick="newTextValue(this)" >Update</asp:LinkButton> 2. Use ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock in the aspx.cs file, : ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this, this.GetType(), "changevalue", "alert(document.getElementById('TextBox1').value);", true);
but the alert window did not showup, that means the client javascript did not run? I just use an alert window to test to see if the textbox value is picked up. Note, I used Ajax Toolkit PopupControl Extender, all codes are in an update panel.
