I do have combo box on my page where the items are retrieved from database.
I have an link label which leads to new form to add value for corresponding column in database.
After add the value, when i click refresh on my current page, the values in combo box must be updated.

How do you refresh a combo box from clicking on something from another Combobox (using Visual Basic).
I don't want to use a button for this as i know it works that way by using .Databind() on the other combobox.

I have three windows:
1st - main window
2nd - child window - it's opened using window.showModalDialog from 1st widnow.
3rd - window - is an ancestor of 1st window and is's opened from 2nd window using window.showModalDialog.
And now what I need to achieve is to open 1, 2 and 3 window. Next after closing the 3rd one, refresh the 2nd one. And after closing the 2nd one, refresh the 1st one.
But there is one more assumption, I don't want to have any post-back during this process.

I had another thread on this problem but I wanted to start this one so no one had to look at the code I posted in the other thread. I have a successful connection but want to display data from the SQL database on my website in my Windows form application. Here's the code I have so far. Used some of the ADONET Tutorial1 here. The table Ray Rover Activation has a number of different columns but to start out I just wanted to see if I could display data for the EmailAddress column.

If I comment out the Sub DoStuff I don't get any errors but neither is anything displayed other than the messagebox message. If I don't comment out DoStuff then I get an error, "Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'FROM'". Maybe someone could enlighten me some on what I need to do get the data in the column EmailAddress to display.
I developed an application using VS2010 and now when i try to deploy it on windows XP maching running IIS 5.1 i get the database version error which says:
The database '<database file path>' cannot be opened because it is version 655. This server supports version 612 and earlier. A downgrade path is not supported.
<database file path> . Create is aborted.
An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file <database file path> failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
I'm experiencing a to me mysterious error when sending e-mails through a SMTP-server from an ASP.NET web application. I get the famous error "unable to relay for xxx@yyy.zzz". What's mysterious to me is that when I cut and paste the exact same code that sends the e-mail into an usual .NET Windows Forms application, send the e-mail with this application, it all works just fine. This made me think that perhaps the problem is that the ASP.NET application runs as NETWORK SERVICE while the Windows Forms application runs on a domain user account, but it turns out that I have another ASP.NET application sending e-mail through the same SMTP-server running under NETWORK SERVER at the same IIS, and this application does not experience this problem.
I've further tried to send e-mails through the SMTP-server manually by telnet the smtp-server on port 25 and running the SMTP-protocol manually, and it all works fine. The SMTP-server is not configured with any kind of authentication or SSL.
Another mysterious fact is that the ASP.NET application can send e-mails from an adress within the same domain to an e-mail adress within the same domain, but not to any adress outside of the domain. But the Windows Forms application, that uses the exact same code, can send e-mails from any adress to any adress both within AND outside of the domain.
So to summarize:
The ASP.NET application can send
e-mails from addresses within the
domain to adresses within the domain,
but not to addresses outside of the
domain.
A Windows Forms application running
the same code on the same computer
can send e-mails from ANY address to
ANY address.
Another ASP.NET application on the
same IIS running under the same
account (NETWORK SERVICE) can send
e-mails using the same SMTP-server
from ANY adress to ANY adress.
There is no authentication configured
on the SMTP-Server.
Both the ASP.NET application and the
Windows Forms application utilizes
the System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient class
to send a
System.Net.Mail.MailMessage.

I have a simple windows form app that I need to get the file path for. I am placing a config file in the same directory and I need to be able to get the path to that file.
I have used
Application.CommonAppDataPath
but that returns the path with 1.0.0.0 at the end.
and
Applicaiton.StartupPath
but that returns the path with indebug at the end
Is there anyway to get the path to just the main file directory without anything appended to the end?
why is it that the exact same codes that i use to create a Windows application, which is able to work, does not work on a Web application? i created a windows application using c# and socket programming language. i will be connected to a remote server and through the windows application, and i will be able to send the "byte[] msg" to the server and activate the LED lightbulbs attached to the remote server. that exact same codes works well on the Windows application. however, when i create another Web application using the same exact codes, i does not have any error yet i am not able to activate the LED lightbulbs attached to it. is it that through the web or internet explorer i am not able to send the "byte[] msg" correctly? or that i sld modify "byte[] msg" to suit the web usage? or any other reasons?

View 1 RepliesAlmost all the applications I worked on involve some look-up values. For example, a lot of times a list of languages ( English, French, etc...) need to be displayed on the WebForm for user to choose.
The common data structure for such look up values include an integer Id and a string as name. Since these look-up values are used so frequently, and they are unlikely to be changed. Most of time, instead of grabbing them from database, I just define a global enum in C# like this
enum Language : int { English = 1, French = 2}
I've been handling look-up values like this for years now. I knew it may not be the best way to handle them. For example, every time a new language is added to the system, somebody needs to remember to update that enum.
On Treenode selection change, I want to refersh the page with selected node values.
Whats happening is, when ever I am selecting any node, first it is triggering Page_Load and then it is moving to treeview1_SelectedNodeChanged, and here I am trying to refresh the page again but this is not happening.
we have a sql server 2005...that has 70-80 databases and hundreds of tables....
It is supposed to refresh every night.... refresh is done by other vendor(3rd party).... we dont know what method(technology) they use to refresh the databases....
My question is .....
Is there a good way to know when the last refresh has happend...can we determine it from sys tables.....

In a webform, I have a formview with respective InsertItemTemplate. I have 2 Look Up buttons, one for Student which opens Student LookUp, and one for Mentor which opens the Mentor Look Up.
First on the input screen sequence is allowing the user to choose Student first. User clicks the Student LookUp button, The StudentLookUp Window is shown, user selects a student, the selected student information is returned and displayed on the calling screen.
The user then clicks on the Mentor LookUp button. The Mentor LookUp window is shown. As this is happening, the values for the Student information, which I have populated upon selecting a student from the Student LookUp goes blank. Can anyone tell me why?
