Web Forms :: How To Track Events Of Dynamically Created Buttons In C#
Dec 10, 2010I made a web form in asp.net and I am using loop to add button on the page. But problem is this, I'm not able to handle event of it.

View 1 RepliesI have a website that sales associates access to view account information with clients. S.A's can only view information for accounts that they are tied to. Some clients have more than one account, S.A's can be tied to more than one account, but not all accounts of one client need to be tied to one S.A.
On the account info pages, I have account numbers (dynamically displayed labels) displayed of other accounts that the account client is associated with, which the S.A's can see. I'm modding this so that if the S.A has viewing permissions of any of the other accounts on that list of accounts, that instead of a label being displayed, a button directing them to that account page will display instead. In order for this to work, I have to attach a security function to the button, otherwise the page will blow out on the S.A's.
So I'm running a piece that is displaying a button instead of a label, which is working fine. My problem is when I try to attach the security event to the dynamically displayed buttons. It seems that the page just posts back and doesn't execute my code at all.
On my Page_Load, I'm running this after the buttons and labels are displayed:
For x = 0 to tblAccountList.Rows.Count - 1
'use a try to target the button, use catch to handle if it's instead a label, only one cell per row.
Try
Dim accountLink as Button = tblAccountList.Rows(x).Controls(0)
Addhandler accountLink.Click, AddressOf Me.PermissionViewCheck
Catch ex as InvalidCastException
Continue For
End Try
Next
I don't have any code checking for postbacks or anything like that, but the "PermissionViewCheck" event never fires and just reposts the page.
m new to .NET. I'm trying to create a button dynamically with event by original button. The original button's click event response creates a button. The new button has a click event attached with a test message.What I have to do is onclick change background color of dynamically created button and grab id value to delete when button delete is clicked. Unfortunately, when I click the dynamically attached button,

<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server">

Assume you have a page in ASP.NET where it makes sense to use JavaScript/jQuery to modify the DOM with values that will eventually be read by the server on submit. For example, you have a form that allows end users to add/remove objects (like dependents on a health insurance form or assets on a loan application). What are some ways to ensure that these items are detected and retrieved by the server once the information is submitted?
I've tried a few things that work, but none of them seem perfect so I wanted to see what the community had to offer. Also, I'm not looking for suggestions that avoid dynamic DOM elements (like use a Wizard, etc.). I'm specifically trying to improve my technique with dynamically created DOM elements.
I've created an array of buttons like static Button[] myButtons = new Button[3];
and then creating and adding buttons to my panel like myButtons[i] = new Button();
myPanel.Controls.Add(myButtons[i]);
in my code behind.
How can I handle the events that occurs when a user clicks these buttons, like using OnClick="myMethod" with regular buttons?
I created a web site with admin control with C# ASP.Net. Admin can create a new button1 with button2.I did this. but when admin login again the created button is not seen.I guess I should save this created button at SQL Server but how should I do.
My code which create dinamically button is here:
Button btn2 = new Button(); btn2.ID = "btnEdit"; btn2.Text = txtKategoriEkle.Text; btn2.Attributes.Add("OnClick", "btnEdit_Click"); btn2.Attributes.Add("onclick", "my_javascript_function"); form1.Controls.Add(btn2);

I've dynamically created 3 checkboxes as you can see in the code below. I also wrote an event handler below. When I run the code, the 3 checkboxes show up, but the event handling does not work right. Whenever there is postback from any of the 3 checkboxes, Label1 reflects the state of checkbox #3, no matter if I toggle checkbox #1 or #2. I put the code I have under Page_Init into Page_Load instead, but makes no difference either way.
The bottom line is, I want the event handler to know exactly which of the 3 checkboxes is firing the event so that Label1 can reflect that.

On my server side code I create a list of radio buttons with a loop:
[Code]....
The buttons are set to auto post back.On page_load I can get the ID of the radio button that was clicked with:
[Code]....
Now I would like to reference which list item was selected?
I'm working on an ASP.NET project in which the vast majority of the forms are generated dynamically at run time (form definitions are stored in a DB for customizability). Therefore, I have to dynamically create and add my controls to the Page every time OnLoad fires, regardless of IsPostBack. This has been working just fine and .NET takes care of managing ViewState for these controls.
protected override void OnLoad(EventArgs e)
{
base.OnLoad(e);
RenderDynamicControls()
}
private void RenderDynamicControls(){
//1. call service layer to retrieve form definition
//2. create and add controls to page container
}
I have a new requirement in which if a user clicks on a given button (this button is created at design time) the page should be re-rendered in a slightly different way. So in addition to the code that executes in OnLoad (i.e. RenderDynamicControls()), I have this code:
protected void MyButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
RenderDynamicControlsALittleDifferently() [code]
My question is, is this really the only way to accomplish what I'm after? It seems beyond hacky to effectively render the form twice simply to respond to a button click. I gather from my research that this is simply how the page-lifecycle works in ASP.NET: Namely, that OnLoad must fire on every Postback before child events are invoked. Still, it's worthwhile to check with the SO community before having to drink the kool-aid.
On a related note, once I get this feature completed, I'm planning on throwing an UpdatePanel on the page to perform the page updates via Ajax.
I have an Asp.net web page that has 2 buttons with onclick events. The problem is, when a text field has the cursor and the enter key is hit the first button is triggered and not the seconded one (the one I want). I tried setting the tab index values,

View 4 RepliesI am developing and Asp.net website. Occsionally I will have to display A Java Script dialog box. The dialog box will have two buttons on it. One labeled "Proceed" and the other labeled "Cancel". Then I need two Java Script methods to respond to which button was pressed. So I suppose my java script methods to handle the button press might look like the code below.
Anyway, I don't know how to invoke these methods when the dialog button are pressed.

I'm creating an quiz application which queries the database and extracts the questions and choices. I use dynamically created controls such as a checkbox list and fill the values dynamically. How do I do this? Right now I have these functions:
array_random_init(); this creates a 10 element integer array from 1-20 - extract_question(i): this extracts a question indexed at i in DB, I created the controls and set the appropriate text in this function. - validate_question(i); this is called by button_click and validates the question i according to DB.
I understand I have to recreate the controls in Page_init on postback, but what should it look like? Do I need to add "if IsPostBack" in page_init, or do I create the controls in page_init() and reset their properties in page_load when I use extract_question(i)? Also, I cannot seem to clear the selected boxes on postback, I added page directive "enableviewstate=false" but it doesn't work.
I have an algorithm but don't know if this is the correct way. like mentioned, i would like my label to appear after the user clicks on 4 different buttons, each button with auto post back.
if(button 1 click && button 2 click && button 3 click && button 4 click)
label1.visible = true;
Since i have 5 buttons that pretty much run the same code, except for the database updates, i found some examples of how to do this.. so i created 1 button event, and put my general calc code then some if statements to determine what button was clicked.. but doing this now i get a NullReferenceException
and here is the code its complaining about, why would this work within the other button events, but not this one? Ive compared and and all the buttons on the page are the same with the except of the database entries.
Button b = (Button)sender;
Label tfive = (Label)FormView1.FindControl("five");
Label ttwo = (Label)FormView1.FindControl("two");

I have a modalPopupExtender in my aspx web page pointing to a Panel and in Code-Behind I create buttons which I want them to show the modalPopup, so I have:
buttonX.OnClientClick = "javascript:$get(" + modalPopup.ClientID + ").show();";
but instead it just does a PostBack, even if I put "return false;" at the end of the past code.
I have a writing a web page that will use several different types of control. The control types will depend on the data being read from a SQL database. The following is my code that decides what control to add to the page:
Select myReader.GetString(1)
Case "DatePicker"
Dim bdpAnswer As BasicFrame.WebControls.BasicDatePicker = New BasicFrame.WebControls.BasicDatePicker()
bdpAnswer.DateFormat = "dd/MM/yyyy"
divAnswerContainer.Controls.Add(bdpAnswer)
Answers.Controls.Add(divAnswerContainer)
Case "DropDownList"
Dim ddlAnswer As DropDownList = New DropDownList()
divAnswerContainer.Controls.Add(ddlAnswer)
Answers.Controls.Add(divAnswerContainer)
Case "RadioButton"
Dim rbAnswer As RadioButton = New RadioButton()
divAnswerContainer.Controls.Add(rbAnswer)
Answers.Controls.Add(divAnswerContainer)
Case "TextBox"
Dim tbAnswer As TextBox = New TextBox()
divAnswerContainer.Controls.Add(tbAnswer)
Answers.Controls.Add(divAnswerContainer)
End Select
There is a dropdown 'ddlpageName' on a page where all the pages are listed.
Now When I select the particular page name from the ddlpagename, all the events (like page_load, grid events ,dropdown events) should be listed in other dropdown named ddlevent.
I'm making a custom modal popup using a bunch divs where the programmer can set how many buttons thay want to apprear on said popup programatically using a function. It works. The only problem is that when the programmer specifies the number of buttons he/she wants it wipes out the skin information for the whole control. If I comment out the call to CreateChildControls the skin works fine, but the new buttons are not created.
In my CreateChildControls function the first thing it does is call Controls.Clear(). I assume this is what's wiping out the skin information, but it's kind of necessary to prevent controls with duplicate IDs.
I have some CSS that uses lists to create 3D buttons styles similar to the link below:
http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-5323375.html
My problem is I have buttons which are server controls and thus render html buttons.
The question is how would I rewrite my button code to use lists and hyperlinks so I can apply the CSS which has been already written?
All I am doing in my button code is within the onclick event setting a string value and calling a method by passing it that string value.
I'm after is some onclick event equivalent i can hook my code into for hyperlink controls.
My application I am using pagination.Using pagination i bind the records with listview control.
I generate the buttons dynamically according to the number of pages which is calculated from number of records returned from dataSource.when i click on a dynamically generated button its corresponding event handlers methods should get evaluated.Since asp.net page is stateless I can't keep the state of that dynamic controls after any postback.
Just Now I have seen the Article "How to get the Id of Control that cause postback in asp.net?". I got some idea from that article. Any example for "Creating link buttons dynamically and handling its corresponding event handler in Asp.Net".
My main file is messages.aspx and i am loading a UC names message_inbox.ascx dynamically as:
SiteUserControls_Message_MessageInbox InboxUC = Page.Load("message_inbox.ascx") as
SiteUserControls_Message_MessageInbox
Now in my user control ("message_inbox.ascx") i have a various events which i am combining in one group event :
public void ForwardLinkButton_OnClick(object sender, EventArgs e)
i am working on a site where client wants to add the pages from the admin panel to existing website( from the web browser) but static contents like text etc.
View 1 RepliesI'm creating 14 textboxes for every day in a month and user can select the month so i have o create them dynamically. But i can't reach the values in the textboxes.
When i don't create them dynamically like
<asp:TextBox ID= "TextBox1" name="TextBox1"> </asp:TextBox>
I can get the value from the C# side by using the
((TextBox)Page.Form.FindControl("TextBox1")).Text
However this moethod doesn't work for the textboxes that i created dynamically. I'm creating them in a loop it's something like;
[Code]....
Then i add the text box to the necessary places at my table.However i can't reach the textboxes when i use the same method
((TextBox)Page.Form.FindControl("!A uniqe ID!"));
It gave a null value...
