I have a project where we need to launch a browser window from a desktop application and provide the newly opened page with XML data for it to process before the page fully renders itself.
Sub WinAppButton_Click
'Generate xml data
'Open url in browser and post xml to the page without any visible http request arguments showing.
End sub
Handling the xml data from the page_load is easy enough. Getting the initialization data to the page is the problem.

View 6 RepliesCurrently I have to use javascript to post back client Width and Height.
But this is relatively a simple task which I think many people will need.
Like drag and drop a special control, or AJAX control or something like that which I can easily get the client screen size automagically. :)
I installed windows 7 recently & I am new to ASP.NET. I installed visual studio 2008 for developing ASP.NET application. I created my web application on visual web developer 2008 & when I run my aplication, ASP.NET development server runs & my defualt browser opens automatically but it cannot show my web page. Connection error ocurrs. But when I open this web page with visual studio's internal browser, it works fine for me. So tell me whats the problem with my default browser(IE8, Flock2.6), Any configuration setting or what, I don't know exactly.

View 1 RepliesI have ASP.net application that is basically a data entry screen for a physical inspection process. The users want to be able to have multiple browser windows open and enter data from multiple inspections concurrently. At first I was using cookie based sessions, and obviously this blew up.I switched to using cookie-less sessions, which stores the session in the URL and in testing this seemed to resolve the problem. Each browser window/tab had a different session ID, and data entered in one did not clobber data entered in the other.
However my users are more efficient at breaking things than I expected and it seems that they're still managing to get the same session between browsers sometimes. I think that they're copying/pasting the address from one tab to the other in order to open the application, but I haven't been able to verify this yet (they're at another location so I can't easily ask them).Other than telling them don't copy and paste, or convince them to only enter one at a time, how can I prevent this situation from occurring?
I have a page where I display ASP.NET charts. There are two types of charts and I felt the need to separate them to some extent which I did by using a submenu which looks like this:
Charts > Goals Charts
> Reconciliation Charts
Clicking on either of the two chart links will take you to the same Charts.aspx page, but with the query string "Goals" or "Reconciliation" respectively. On the page load of the Charts.aspx page, I receive the query string into a session variable and create the correct charts based on that value. All of this works fine.
The problem I'm experiencing occurs when I open up a new tab in IE/Firefox. Here is the series of events I'm experiencing:
- In the original tab, I will click on the "Goals Charts" hyperlink which loads the Charts.aspx page with "Goals" as the charts type session value. The other controls on the page needed to produce "Goals" charts (eg. drop down lists, etc) are displayed correctly ie. the "Goals" version. At this point, I haven't done anything in this tab except for loading the Charts.aspx page from the "Goals Charts" link.
- In the original tab, I right click the "Reconciliation Charts" link and opt to open in a new tab (I just tested and the same thing appears to be working if you opt to open in a new window as well). When the new tab loads the Charts.aspx page, it loads with the query string "Reconciliation" which it stores in the session variable. So at this point I would expect to have two different, independent tabs: the original tab on the "Goals Charts" track and the second tab on the "Reconciliation Charts" track.
- This is where the problem occurs. I would expect the original tab/window to create a "Goals" chart when I make a selection using the other controls and I would expect the second tab/window to create a "Reconciliation" chart. The problem, however, is that when I go back to the original tab/window - the one which should be a "Goals" chart and which should have "Goals" stored in the session value - when I proceed to create a chart, it's a Reconciliation chart that is created.
Somehow, even though I'm in a different tab or window and I am navigating the site seemingly independently of the other tab/window, it seems to be carrying the most recently populated value from the session variable for both tabs/windows.

View 4 RepliesI have an ASP.NET setup website using Windows authentication. Each time I open IE and try to access the webpage I get a windows authentication screen. Once I have logged in I can see the website fine. My problem is that every time I open a new IE browser I have to re-enter my username and password. I have heard about thew double hop issue, is this what it could be. If so how many ip fix this. Any ideas how i can stop this box showing up each time? I have ticked the "remember my username/password" tick box but still no joy. I am using Windows Server 2003, IIS 6.0 and .NET 4.0.
View 2 RepliesWhen a .NET server control is rendered in a browser it is rendered as a html control. Then how a browser differentiate between a server control and a html control. If the two control rendered as same then how server side events fire for a server control? If u say by using runat="server" attribute then also we can add runt="server" for html controls to work at server side... so then how these are recognized?
View 11 RepliesI have been spending a better part of a week trying to track down why I am not able to clear all session variables in a web app (vs 2010, vb.net). What I have tracked it down to is that when I remove or abandon sessions that my html pages or codebehind access, it works, but for some reason in any of my class files where I use "Public Shared strConnection as String = HttpContext.Current.Session("strConnection").ToString" to access a session variable, it finds the old one and not the current one. I have to wait for it to time out, go in again, and it will find the new one.
I do not use Linq, and there is only one place in the whole web app that I place the connection string in a variable whcih is when a person logs in. It points them to the correct database. The sqlconnection is set for all of my listviews in Page_Init to make sure that they aren't using any session variable that they create on their own. Interestingly enough that if I use debug to go in each time, exit debug, enter debug again trying to access a different database, it works correct each time. I assume that debug is correctly killing the session variable for the classes for me.
