Mar 26, 2016
i have made an .aspx page of c# in  folder named as "USERPANEL". Also placed all my js in "js" folder and css files in "css" folder & all these pages are placed under "USERPANEL" folder same location where i have create a page. If i would placing the css on the page itself then it's working but not loading any external stylesheets. why? below is code as i am attaching  the fontawesome file placed in fonts folder.
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href= "fonts/font-awesome.css" runat="server"/>.

I recently ran yslow on a page i have (master paged etc) and it returned that there were far too many javascript files included (most of which I haven't added).
I guess my question is that given i have v1.0.20229.0 of the toolkit.dll (over .net 2)
I'm wondering if subsequent releases have fixes for this sort of thing?

i would like to load a banner on to the page based on the registration count we have in the DB. if the registration count is >70, i will have to load banner2 on to the page. i am doing like this On the webForm.aspx
<img src="images/banner1.jpg"
runat="server"
id="imgs"/>
in the code behind
protected void Page_Load(object sender,
EventArgs e){
if (!Page.IsPostBack)
{
if(isSessionOneFilled())
{
imgs.Src = "images/banner2.jpg";
}
}
}
The above code works. is it Good Programming to load html files from codebehind? is there any alternative way? how does this impact when internet speed is slow?

I have a web app, which contains a folder Uploads, to which users (authenticated) upload their files (for some reason it has to be a folder in the root of the web app).I want to deny access to this folder and files to all non-authenticated users.
In my web.config I have:
[Code]....
and everything seems to work in development, but on a staging server it redirects non-authenticated users to login page ONLY from aspx pages, but not when entering the url to the file in Uploads folder.

I have heard that if we use gzip, aspx files will be loading faster. But, I am not sure as to how to use it in my web applications. I am hosting my site with GODADDY (ASP 2, IIS 7) Can anyone tell me if I will be able to use gzip? Can you give me a sample file where gzip is used?

I am using Master Pages for my site(VS-2005). A page in my site gives user information about a city which he has selected from a drop down list. I want that when a user selects a city's name from a drop down list control, then a particular XML file of that city should get loaded into that page. The ASP.NET page should remain same but only data should change. If a user has chosen London then the XML file of London should be loaded, if the selection is Paris then XML file of Paris should be loaded.

Actually we have series of images named 1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3.jpg, 4.jpg & 5.jpg.
when i delete 2.jpg, then i rename 5.jpg with 2.jpg. But all this happens on server & on page load it is displaying 2.jpg from temporary files, not from server.
Solution is in two ways:-
1. either I will make page not to save any images on client's system(in temporary internet files).
2. or i will have to delete all images from temporary internet files.

From what I can see, .NET does not allow the use of multiple global.asax.vb within a project.This is my situation:I have a "web project" that I use as my base project for all of my other projects. This base project has a global.asax.vb file that runs cleanup code, etc. It also loads databases that I want to use within the base project. I then have these other projects that take advantage of the base project to save development time.My Problem:When project A and B load, they also needs to perform tasks within Application_Start and Session_Start specific to those projects only. I don't want to put any code for project A or B within the base project's Application_Start or Session_Start. I want to isolate the code for each project to that specific project only and keep my base project 'vanilla' and independent of any project that I build on top of it.Does anyone know how to handle this situation? I had the idea of trying to load modules contained within a folder by the base project, but that didn't seem to work out.

I have used a external js file for a upload operation in my page.. once the file get loaded in temporary folder, it gets loaded from there even if new changes are made the old version that exist in temp folder gets loaded... i have writtenResponse.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache); on my page But it still loads the js file in cache. When i cleared the temporary files manually it works fine...But i cannot ask my client to clear temp folder,,,Is there any solution to load js file not from the cache, ie reload every time page is loaded...

Whenever I've worked with asp.net authentication / authorization in the past, I can remember that it never used to secure .htm .js .css files (actually, any file that isn't processed by asp.net isapi dll). After a while of doing other work I've now come back to doing some web development, this time using VS2010 and now the opposite is true. It appears as if all files are secured because the images and .js files on my login page aren't working.
My question is, was my initial assumption about how non asp.net files are dealt with wrong? If not, when did this change happen? Has there been a change in the VS2010 development server that now means that all files are processed by asp.net?
I've just noticed that when I run my project from a local IIS server, non asp.net files (eg images and .js) are NOT secured. However, when run from the VS Development server they are. Clearly this down to configuration differences between IIS and the dev server. This leads me to another question.. Is it possible to configure the VS dev server?

I have a website on IIS 7. This website has a HttpModule with an AuthorizeRequest event handler. This event does not fire for CSV files and I can access the file without logging in, I guess this is because IIS7 is not configured to require form autentication for CSV files.

I have a website running on a IIS 7.5 server with ASP.NET 4.0 on a shared host, but in full trust.
The site is a basic "file browser" that allows the visitors to login and have a list of files available to them displayed, and, obviously, download the files. The static files (mostly pdf files) are located in a sub folder on the site called data, e.g. http://example.com/data/...
The site uses ASP.NET form authentication.
My question is: How do I get the ASP.NET engine to handle the requests for the static files in the data folder, so that request for files are authenticated by ASP.NET, and users are not able to deep link to a file and grab files they are not allowed to have?

I manage a large asp.net site which has previously been converted from static html site to asp.net. For several reasons (mainly SEO) we decided not to rename all the files to .aspx back when we originally converted the site. This was very easy to do by simply adding the buildProvider and httpHandler to the web.config.
<buildProviders>
<add extension=".html" type="System.Web.Compilation.PageBuildProvider"/>
</buildProviders>
<httpHandlers>
<add path="*.html" verb="*" type="System.Web.UI.PageHandlerFactory"/>
</httpHandlers>
Now I am upgrading the site to use Asp.net WebPages with Razor cshtml files. I can rename all the files if necessary, and use url rewriting to make the urls stay the same, however it would be much easier if I could just configure the web.config to tell it to parse .html files as if they were .cshtml. I have searched around quite a bit, and could not find anything equivalent to the PageHandlerFactory for razor pages. It appears as though it is just an internal mechanism in the .net 4.0 ISAPI handler.
The site is currently running on Windows 2003 server and IIS 6. We will be upgrading to 2008/IIS 7.5 in the near future, but I'd prefer not to wait for that. Is there any way to get the .html files to be parsed by razor as if they were .cshtml files?

I have an application that uses resource files to display items in multiple languages. My app uses quote a lot of javascript and the alerts need to display in the local language. To do this, I have created an http handler which will read the keys and values of the culture-specific resource file and write them to a JSON array which is then embedded in the page in a script tag, the messages can then be accesses using, for exmaple:
Message.Error (en-GB = "Error", fr-FR = "Erreur")
The messages http handler works great in development, however when I run the application on a test server, I get the error: Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "Resources.Alerts.resources" was correctly embedded or linked into assembly "App_GlobalResources.b0n9j90e" at compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required are loadable and fully signed. The code that I use to acccess the resource file is:
ResourceManager manager = Resources.Alerts.ResourceManager;
ResourceSet resourceSet= Resources.Alerts.ResourceManager.GetResourceSet(Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture, true, true);
Where Resources.Alerts is the type that contains my multi-lingual definitions. The build action for the Alerts.resx file is set to "Embedded Resource". Any ideas why this works locally but not on my test server, am I missing something?

I was following the tutorials from this two sites:
http://www.15seconds.com/issue/070104.htm
http://aspnet.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/020404-1.aspx
Following the first site, it had worked but when I´ve moved the pages and files to other folders and set the web.config file on this folder, now it won´t work at all!!!
The file is an *.swf object. I did put the asapi.dll to map the extension on the website root, I´ve put the
[Code]....
on the web.config new folder and on the web.config website´s root.
It won´t work!!! I can access the file directly!!! on the web.config of the folder that contains the file, there is a <deny users="*" /> line.

I have a form with 10 file inputs. They can contain 10 random files with random sizes. If I send these files to ASP.NET server with this code:
var count = HttpContext.Current.Request.Files.Count;
var TotalSize = 0;
for (int i = 0; i < count; i++ )
{
HttpPostedFile postedFile = HttpContext.Current.Request.Files.Get(i);
TotalSize += postedFile.ContentLength;
}
And as you can see I didn't save the files on the server, will this code just calculate the summary of files without need to receive the whole file from the client (And therefore it would be very fast)?

As you know this approach is highly hard and time inefficient.

I need to populate a database (SQL Server) with some data from a templated excel document.Here are some approaches:
A) User upload a file.xls or file.csv that the server reads, checks and updates the database (cons:the uploaded file might be too big. file.* needs to be in correct format)
B) User downloads a tool.exe to read and upload file.xls (cons: maintenance of the tool.exe)
C) Use of a web service in excel? (don't know how to do it) but
this article might give you a hint
Which one is the best to use? Are there any others?
