Web Forms :: Label Text Doesn't Show The Content Properly - HTML Tags
Mar 11, 2011
I am trying to save HTML content in a database. I have it stored properly but when I try to call it and display it on a page using a literal or label control, it does not show the content properly. It will show the text but not any HTML content (i.e. checkboxes, images, hyperlinks, etc)
On my webpage i have labels showing data from database. Some values can have html tags in them, example <br>. When showing <br> in a Lable it converts it to next line. What do i need to do to make Label show <br> as "<br>" string?
I have implemented a collapsible panel which works properly. It collapse and it extends the content panel when the link corresponding to the information panel is clicked. Within the content panel I have an HTML table control containing several rows and columns. Within one of these columns I have added a container (a <DIV> tag) holding a Google map. Here is the issue:
The map does not properly show up within the container when the content panel is extended. It appears to be shifted to the left, not centered as it should be. Therefore, any attempt to place a point mark on the map (centering the map over that point mark) is unsuccessful since the map doesn't show properly in the container so the point mark is not visible. Even if I drag the map with the mouse within the container, it always reposition at a bad location. If I comment out the extender, leaving the panel as is, the maps shows properly within its container. It is the collapsible panel extender which makes the layout to be incorrect.
I have a number of labels that are filled with error-data that is retrieved from a database. Some of these error-messages are html related and thus contain html-tags. When setting the label.text attribute to the string that contains the tags the page will not realize that it is within a label but render these tags making the formatting totally bonkers :)
Is there any way that this can be encoded in some way for the page to realize that it isnt to render this?
I do realize that I can replace all tag elements and put a literal symbol, "", infront of all of the tags. But I figured there must be a better way to do it.
i have atitle and Image in the news.when i hover on the title,The Details Appears in Atooltip. But the problem is that Alot of Html Tag in my details in the tooltip,Because i wrote the details of the News By Rich Editor(Fck Editor) How to Remove these tag to be clean text?
There are lots of questions on how to strip html tags, but not many on functions/methods to close them.
Here's the situation. I have a 500 character Message summary ( which includes html tags ), but I only want the first 100 characters. Problem is if I truncate the message, it could be in the middle of an html tag... which messes up stuff.
Assuming the html is something like this:
<br/> </p> For more information about Lorem Ipsum doemdloe, visit: <br/> <a href="http://www.somesite.com" title="Some Conference">Some text link</a><br/> </div>
How would I take the first ~100 characters or so? ( Although, ideally that would be the first approximately 100 characters of "CONTENT" ( in between the html tags )
I'm assuming the best way to do this would be a recursive algorithm that keeps track of the html tags and appends any tags that would be truncated, but that may not be the best approach.
My first thoughts are using recursion to count nested tags, and when we reach 100 characters, look for the next "<" and then use recursion to write the closing html tags needed from there.
The reason for doing this is to make a short summary of existing articles without requiring the user to go back and provide summaries for all the articles. I want to keep the html formatting, if possible.
NOTE: ignore that the html isn't totally semantic. This is what I have to deal with from my WYSIWYG.
EDIT:
I added a potential solution ( that seems to work ) I figure others will run into this problem as well. I'm not sure it's the best... and it's probably not totally robust ( in fact, I know it isn't ),
I have some code written in c# to obtain the text and numbers from a web interface that required user inputs. my problem is that the texts i am getting off the web is displays in html forms (i.e. it has tags all over the place) hence, i would like to filter out the html tags, is that possible? i searched up some codes but it didn't help me as it brought up even more problems when compile.
i've 2 textboxes(t1,t2) t1.text = <p>some data</p> if i click a button i want to display only "some data" in t2 without <p>,</p> means, I want to display only text without any html tags, how?
im using Visual Web Developer Express2005 and language: VB
Example Image of my forum thread that im working:
i encircled in color red the part where i assign the 'content' as you can see above.here EXAMPLE of code in my repeater that populate a <td>(inserting data FROM my database) from my TableField('content')
[Code]....
the part that i encircled in the image above was the data on my tableField named--> 'content'.
The idea was to show not the whole content but to show Only some part of it. example is to show only the 1st 300chars or 100 words.
i tried this code which shows the fist 1-100 chars. [Code]....
Problem is the data i stored in the TableField('content') has other html tagsExample my Tablefield('content') has the following data.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-CA"><span style="font-size: x-small">All hands worked in the preparation..............
When i use the code .tostring.tosubstring(1, 100) it shows: <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-CA"><span style="font-size: x-small">All hands worked in the preparation..................
instead of starting at: All hands worked in the preparation.......Is there a way that i could extract first the html tags then use the .string.tosubstring(1, 100) to make it work.I use the code below temporarily to generate the 'content' as showed in the image above. i limit the height of the lable to 100px which does the trick. but i know its not a good method thats why im trying to look for other methods.
I want to implement readmore/less feature. i.e I will be having html content and I am going to show first few characters from that content and there will be a read more link in front of it. I am currently using this code :
var txtToHide= input.substring(length); var textToShow= input.substring(0, length); var html = textToShow+ '<span class="readmore"> … </span>' + ('<span class="readmore">' + txtToHide+ '</span>'); html = html + '<a id="read-more" title="More" href="#">More</a>';
Above input is the input string and length is the length of string to be displayed initially. There is an issue with this code, suppose if I want to strip 20 characters from this string:
"Hello <a href='#'>test</a> output", the html tags are coming between and it will mess up the page if strip it partially. What I want here is that if html tags are falling between the range it should cover the full tag i.e I need the output here to be "Hello <a href='#'>test</a>" . How can I do this?
In my application I am using a login screen. While a new user registers he has to fill the First name and Last name. There is a user search option. The details of the users will be shown in the user details page. Some users try to add html tags like </td></tr> with first name and last name. So after rendering from DB the page alignment is breaking. How to fix this problem?? How can I avoid html tags while entering the user details?
I wrote code of chart with sqldatasource in database column. My problem is I could not able bind. I used DataList Control with a template and literal. Bind literal with <%# Eval("Code") %> But In sql I have ASP.NET tags <% %>. and when processing process %>, it assumes asp.net ends and wrote other text as it is in out put. how to bind this text. Or any other Idea to display graphs from database as per user selection.
I have a form setup with a drop down list, a label and a button. The dropdown list is populated from an XML file and the label is initially filled in blank. The label text changes depending on the drop down box selected item and as I didn't want to have to cause the page to post back each time the user selected a new user item I set the label text in JavaScript using the .innerHTML property.
However whenever I submit the form the label text doesn't get passed through properly it always outputs "". As a test I tried setting the label to a default value in ASP.NET and as expected the result that gets passed through is the default text property.
So it seems that it doesn't like JavaScript setting the text property of the label control (which renders as span). Is there a way for C# to read the innerHTML property of the field?
I am creating a web form for employees to submit recipe's on a web form. The fields are recipe name, ingredients, and the recipe instructions. Majority of the time, employee's will be copying/pasting the text from a word document. Currently I am using the ajax editor control. I know there is a "Paste from Word" button that can be used but all the users are not going to know to use the button.
They may just do a right click to paste or the ctrl v to paste. When this is done, all the html tags from Word are pasted as well. I want to be able to remove the tags.
i'm doing ajax website using PostWebRequest() function, when i call any .aspx page to the target html element the output is coming fine in IE but in FF(FireFox) is coming in html format(html tags) IE output : [URL] FF output : [URL]
javascript functions : function PostWebRequest(postPage, HTMLTarget, parameter) { displayElement = $get(HTMLTarget); displayElement.innerHTML = "<div style='text-align:center;'><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><img src='images/ajax-loader.gif' algin='center' /></div>"; var wRequest = new Sys.Net.WebRequest(); wRequest.set_url(postPage); wRequest.set_httpVerb("POST"); var body = parameter; wRequest.set_body(body); wRequest.get_headers()["Content-Length"] = body.length; wRequest.add_completed(onWebRequestCompleted); wRequest.invoke(); } function onWebRequestCompleted(executor, eventArgs) { if (executor.get_responseAvailable()) { if (document.all) { displayElement.innerHTML = executor.get_responseData(); } else { displayElement.textContent = executor.get_responseData(); } } else { if (executor.get_timeOut()) { alert("Timed Out"); } else { if (executor.get_aborted()) alert("Aborted"); } } }
I have a small obsticle. I use labels to present data from database. Some data strings from database are very long which makes the labels very long too so it looks ugly because label is pushing everything to the side of the webpage. Setting label width works only when text is less then width which i set. How can i make the label only show text no longer then labels width?
I have a label and a text box associated with it. I have added some text in the text box which is invisible at first; I want to display the content after the cursor moves on the label.
I'm getting this message when going to a web app that accesses my service.
"The content type text/html of the response message does not match the content type of the binding (text/xml; charset=utf-8)..."
The thing is, it happens once in a while even when no changes have been made to the service or the web app. And I can make it go away most of the time by going directly to the .svc?wsdl page in my browser and then coming back to the web app.
I am having a label which I am creating through code. I want to populate this label through a function which returns me a DataTable. This DataTable has 1 row and 1 column in the return. This is my code:
on a server, I am trying to deploy a website. Originally, the page styles did not work and the some of the .gif and .jpg images didnt show up. I fixed the css problem by adding a http handler mapping through IIS. I tried the same thing to get the images to work but that didn't fix the problem. If the website was fully deployed im pretty sure the images would work so I dont want to change their paths (same with css). The handler mapping i added for css was for "*.css" of type system.web.staticfilehandler. This is the same type i tried for .jpg and .gif. I don't know specifically the purpose of system.web.staticfilehandler because msdn info is very short.
