I want to read the contents of a remote folder(s) but i only know the date part of the folder name, the other part of the folder name is a timestamp that is different everytime. I'm thinking that i need to do something with the last modified/created date attribute to get the correct folder but i am unsure on how to do this.
View 1 RepliesI have an xml file as shown below. In that the MailBody has contents stored in tabular form. In that table I have a column 'Description' which needs to preserve line breaks and paragraph format if user input is in paragraphs.
At present that column displays data as one whole paragraph even if user enters data with line breaks by Enter key.

After the build is executed i want to copy the content of the ReleaseBuild to another website on the server.This should be possible i guess but i cant seem figure it out.I know this can be done in nAnt and msbuild but i need to make Hudson do it, eg plugin or something.
View 1 RepliesWe store backup archives in subfolders of a folder on one of the server's external USB drive. I would like to have an ASP.NET app read the contents of this folder so the manager can view the backup files to confirm backups are working and optionally delete these backup files when an old drive is reconnected so it can be used for the next weeks backups.
This backup folder is oubviously outside the server's webroot. Is there some way I can grant authority so the ASP.Net app can access this folder for this purpose? I would be using VS Web Express, so can't create any signed packages and such.

View 6 RepliesFrom some reasons I added virtual directory to my site- e.g. the entire site running under one domain and one part from another and different folder. I need to read some data that's stored in the main root of the site in text file... but the .NET frame work (and I think iis itself) doesn't give simple access to another folder that declared as different site.
Are there is a way to read the text file? Let's say my main site is-www.domain.com and the virtual directory is-www.domain.com/newsite, (the folders are different, off course, even in different disks) can I get text data from the main root?

So I gave NETWORK SERVICE and IIS_IUSRS read on the website folders.
But now vistors can not access images and other static content from the Content folder without logging in. Aspx and .ashx content works however static content is redirected to the login page.
I have put a css file in App_Data folder and referrenced it properly in the page to be used. But when I browse the page then it does get loaded and page is shown without styling. Well I know why it is happening because Asp.Net run time blocks access to App_Data folder at run time. But I wanna ask that how we can make it working that is I put the css file in App_Data folder and it still works.

View 1 RepliesI am using the membership provider and am reasonably comfortable that all of my web pages are safe.Some of the pages contain hyperlinks to documents (pdf, xls, etc.) stored in a folder under the root of the web site. I have disabled the ability of users to anonymously list folder contents, but I don't see a way to keep anonymous users from accessing the documents if they know the specific URL for that document. Example; if the document contains a spreadsheet of current sales, I don't want an ex-employee (who captured the URL while working here) to be able to bring up the current document.asswording the documents isn't a good choice because there are hundreds and we'd like to avoid changing them all every time someone leaves, or weekly, or whenever...Is there a way to restrict access to all contents of a web folder to people who have been authenticated?
View 4 RepliesThe oddity is, that the same website files, copied and pasted, connection string altered to point to the production/live db, published to the httpdocs folder works fine BUT the same web files, copied and pasted, connection string altered to poin to the dev db, published to the subdomains/dev fodler causes the error below:

working for the non-subdomain (dev) site. Moreoever I deleted and recreated the /dev subdomain but the

I populate the ListBox with ListItems and each ListItem's Value property holds the full path to the file. But, I removed all of that and just put txtLog.Text = "test" inside of the "is selected" block.
I don't know much about the .Net environment, so my first idea was to just write a console app that scans the folder for new content, and then emails alerts out. Then put the .exe as a scheduled task on the server, executing every few minutes. This seems pretty archaic to me though. Is there a more elegant way to do this for my website?

As an extensibility option for my web application I would like to allow the user to add sections to it by simply making new folders and uploading files to them. So, for instance, if they created (in the webroot): /UserContent/StaticPages/First/Second/index.txt. Then in the main menu there would be a new menu point "First" with the submenu point "Second", which would lead to markdown-parsed version of index.txt. This way the user can upload any static menu points he wants (such as "About us", "Contact us", "Our Mission" etc.) Another extensibility point is that I would like them to add headers/footers to specific webpages in a similar fashion. I'm using ASP.NET MVC3, so there are pretty URLs, and it would be easy for the user to just create: /UserContent/Additions/Store/Categories/35/header.txt
And when someone opened [URL] the markdown-parsed header.txt would be prepended. This is simple for the user, and simple for me (I don't need to make sophisticated admin panels and WYSIWYG editors). However I'm worried about the performance. This scheme means that on each GET request I would need to scan the /UserContent/StaticPages folder and check for the existences of the header/footer files (several, because parent levels can have their header.txt/footer.txt as well).
I could cache the result, but then I have to manage the cache and the user will need to know that changes can take up to X minutes to display. Would this be a premature optimization? There won't be much data in those folders, so Windows will probably be able to easily cache their contents itself.
On remote server i have shared folder. If there any way to download file from this shared folder on local machine? Without using ftp. Server dont have iis or something like this,just have shared folder.
