Web Forms :: Requiredfieldvalidator Ignored On Server 2008 IIS?
Mar 26, 2010
I am trying to make my ASP.NET (2.0) application to work on Server 2008 (IIS 7) but all validations are ignored. Many textboxes have requireedfieldvalidators that should require user entries but they are ignored. The same application runs on a bunch of Server 2003 with no problems like these. Is there a setting on Server 2008 IIS that has to be enabled/disabled in order for the validation to work?

I have a user control with a label and a field. I add the user control dynamically to a page at run time. There could be many user controls which are built dynamically from data I get from the data base. The data describes the label name and if the text box should be completed.. ie is it required. I have a submit on the main page which has a validation group.All the validators on the user controls have the same validation group. So far so good I hope.
The user control has a RequiredFieldValidator for the text box and looks all like this. The validator is enabled by default.
<asp:TextBox ID="dfControl" runat="server" Text="" ToolTip="ucsAlphanumericEntryDC" Width="95%" CausesValidation="true"/>
<asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="rfvContol" runat="server" ErrorMessage="Value is required" EnableClientScript="true"
ValidationGroup="ValidateContols" ControlToValidate="dfControl" Display="Dynamic" Enabled="true"></asp:RequiredFieldValidator>
When I dynamically load the control I check a parameter to tell me if the field is required or not. The paramater is from the database which represents the control that I am about to draw. If the Field NOT a required field I disable the validation in the page_preRender.. also tried it in load.
if (!DisplayRequired)
{
rfvContol.EnableClientScript = false;
rfvContol.Enabled = false;
dfControl.CausesValidation = false;
}
So far so good. This all works on the client side validation for only the user controls with the Display Required set to true, leaving the Validator enabled.however on posting page from a submit button which I have wired to the same validation group as the user controls, I check the IsValid on the submit and if its false I dont save anything. But when the page re-renders on the client.. I have error messages on all the user controls, saying that they are required... even though I disabled some of them that where not required. the View state is default on the control which I assume to be on.
I also tried not redrawing the controls with the validators, by enclosing the code in a if(!IsPostBack)
why the validators fire when they are disabled on the first page load but dont get disabled on the postback.

I am creating a custom server control in which I place a RequiredFieldValidator. In the the Render method and I want to dynamically create a RequiredFieldValidator and render it to the HtmlTextWriter.
The problem is, when I call RenderControl on the RequiredFieldValidator, it only generates a span for me with no javascript or client side code.
How can I completely render a RequiredFieldValidator to an HtmlTextWriter?

Would something be missing, not working, or confusing if I do this? First, install SQL Server 2008 Standard, and SP1. Then, install Visual Studio 2010 Professional, unchecking SQL Server 2008 Express option. Or would I need to fix any configurations afterwards?

I have looked at all the posts I can find on this problem and tried everything I can think of, but still the problem persists. I am getting really sick of it.was working fine for the last year until an update to MS Office 2007 caused a lot of problems (automatic update). After checking posts here, I removed it completely. No change. I then tried all the things I could find on other posts, also no change. Today, I removed VS and the Web Authoring Component and re-installed. Still no go.
Does anyone have a fix for this problem. It seems that it has been around a long time, but is still giving problems. I even saw one suggestion to reformat the drive! You've got to be joking!

I'm creating a website and I'm testing resgistering and Log-in.
I followed a simple tutorial to create a Log-in in Visual Studio C# template which generated a SQL Server database.Locally the Log-in and registration page works perfectly. The problem is that when I upload my site to the hosting site the navigation works but the Log-in and Registration forms send an error when clicked "Register" or "Log-in". I contacted the site and they upload my database the way it should be because I was doing it wrong. I can see all my files including the data base.
They commented me that I had to do a connection string to the data base so the login and registration forms can work. I don't understand how to do that, I know the connection string has to be declared in the Web Config File, the thing is that I don't know how to write that code and link it to my data base in the hosting site, in fact I have sample code but I don't know just what do I need to put in it.

I create a new website in VS 2010 (VB .Net). I add a table, within it i add a textbox, a button and a RequiedFieldValidator. I set the RFV ControlTValidate property to the textbox. When i move(click or tab) away from the textbox, the RFV doesnt kick in the error message that i have set.
The RFV code is

ControlToValidate="txtEnterName" ErrorMessage="RequiredFieldValidator"
InitialValue="0" ForeColor="#FF3300"></asp:RequiredFieldValidator>
Texbox

This issues has been driving me nuts. I am trying to follow the tutorial on [URL] I am trying to connect to a database in Microsoft SQL Server 2008. The way I do this is by right clicking on the "Data Connections" > Add Connection. Afterwards the Add Connection window comes up, I make sure my data source is "Microsoft SQL Server (SqlClient). And, I choose a server name; the only server I can choose is DomainSQLEXPRESS. The issue is when I go down to the "Select or enter a database name" drop down box, I do not see my database listed. I have also made sure in the SQL Server Management Studio that I have given my user all the privileges for the database. I know my explanation is kind of vague, but would anyone know the reason why I would not see my database?

I am using ckeditor as my Rich Text Editor (RTE). This is an html element control and not an ASP control. I would like to use the RequiredFieldValidator (RFV) control to make this field required.
I cannot find any documentation stating that the RFV can be used like this. Can anybody tell me if this is possible?
Here's an example - notice that there is an html textarea element - how do I use RFV on this?

Some times RequiredFieldValidator is failing to validate a calender textbox Field for date entry in the page so we receive a blank value in the email which the application sends and 1/1/1900 12:00:00 AM in the database for that corresponding control. It happened with a user who has got Internet Explorer and also the active Scripting is Enabled.

I have the following code:
<asp:RadioButtonList
ID="rbltest"
RepeatDirection="Horizontal"
RepeatLayout="Flow"
[Code]....
If the user submits this form, and they have not selected a option , I'd expect the validator to catch it but it's not.
How can I get my validator to ensure that one of the option radio buttons are selected?
