i need to response a file to a new window. here my code. pls guide me what i have to add.

I need to to export a file to the user. It takes 1-2 min to generate the file so I'd like to have the page go into a kind-of modal mode with a layover on the page and a 'Working' spinner showing. The problem is I can't make the modal stuff go away after Save File dialog is closed.
How can I remove the layover after the dialog is done?
I have an query when user select any option it should redirect and open new tab in same browser, actually it worked fine in firefox and IE but in chrome it opens a new window. Below is the code.
[Code]....
I know this has been asked many times and have saw the posts that it cant be done and there are alternative solutions.
The caveat is that after clicking on the button this will load a new page with the target URL but I would want the current web form to remain as it is. That is essentailly two web forms side by side?
i am posting some data from my application to an external website i.e for a credit card payment
so i am using a response.write object.how to display the reposnse.write in a new window
this is my code
Dim sb As New StringBuilder()
sb.AppendFormat("runat=server")
sb.Append("<html>")
sb.AppendFormat("<body onload='document.forms[""form""].submit()'>")
sb.AppendFormat("<form name='form' action='{0}' method='post'>", postbackUrl)

I've made a user control with several LinkButtons on it. On click of any of these buttons executing following code:
Response.ContentType = "Response.ContentType";
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "filename=" + CorrectFileName);
Response.WriteFile(filename);
Response.End();
And I have to problems with it:
1. after user click on one of the buttons another ones doesn't response
2. I need to execute some code after user received file (delete copy of it from the server)
I suppose I need to open another window and call SaveFile dialog from it. But how can exactly do this? I've found example code of opening window or starting SaveFile dialog but not two of them together and I can't figure out how to put them together...
I create a window dialog by calling window.showModalDialog;
In that dialog I want to execute a Response.TransmitFile like the code below. The code works fine from a non dialog window. However it just hangs if I call it from the modal dialog page. No error messages. I just doesn't do anything. Is there something else I need to do to get this to function in a dialog window?
string thePath = "c:\temp\New Text Document.txt";
Response.Clear();
Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream";
Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + "New Text Document.txt");
Response.TransmitFile(thePath);
Response.End();

You have to use target attribute in form tag:
<form runat=server target=_blank> // new window
or
<form runat=server target=_top> // above all frames
or
<form runat=server target=_parent> //parent frame
or
<form runat=server target=someframe> // a frame by name
This can only work if the Server.Transfer is invoked from within the form such as a button click.
If your Server.Transfer method is in the Page_load event (which isn't a form event), how do you set a target window to Server.Transfer?
I need to open a new window with Response.Redirect, Is it possible?

I am working on a C# .net application in which I need to open a new browser and direct users to it in the event they click on a button or image.
i want to keep the main page and opens a new window browser once the user click the button.
here's my code.
aspx page.
<asp:Button ID="previewbtn" runat="server" Text="PREVIEW " OnClick="previewbtn_Click" />
code behind:
Response.Redirect("newpage.aspx?bg=" + Session["user"].ToString() + "&dc=" + Session["dcode"].ToString());
First, I've taken the time to review this question which seems to be the most similar, however, the solution that seems to have been selected will not work in my scenario.Not to mention I worry about some of the comments claiming it to be brittle or an inadequate solution.
[URL]
-We have an XML document which basically contains all of the information for a Side menu.
-We have numerous URLS which are stored in a constants class.
-One of the elements in a string of XML (well call it label) is used to determine if the menu item is created as a LinkButton or a Label.
-Links use a custom user control that is used standard for all links across the application (why suggestion on similar thread doesn't work - I don't want all links to open in a new window - just one)
-One of the elements in a string of XML (well call it function) is used in a Switch statement to generate our links using Response Redirect.
It may look something like this.
[Code]....
Given this scenario, I'm trying to find the best way to quickly open a New Window, when a specific case in this switch statement is met. Can it be done with Response Redirect (this seems to be arguable - people say no it can't, yet other people say they have made it work)? If not, what alternative can work here?
I have the following download request in javascript:
var exportWindow = window.open('Download.ashx?source=1', '');
exportWindow.onload = function() {
alert('finished');
};
My problem is that the above alert box does not appear. The download.ashx sets up the following response (which will be saved as a csv file), which works fine.
context.Response.ClearContent();
context.Response.ContentType = "application/text";
context.Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment; filename="" + fileName + """);
context.Response.Write(resultWriter.ToString());
context.Response.Flush();
context.Response.Close();
If I replace the download.ashx with a normal aspx page, then the alert appears. So my question would be: is it possible to know programatically when the dowload.ashx returned with a response?(using FF3)
Here is the website situation:
Webpage A: look & feel alignments are in the central of the screen. It has a submit button. The last code in the submit command() is this message subject:
Response.Write(string.Format("<script>window.open('{0}', '_blank');</script>", url));
where url = another webpage B.The outcome is fine. Webpage B is populated properly. However, Webpage A postback as aligment to the left, it is no longer the center. I could not find a way to debug the issue.
I have following function which is called from a button click event

I am creating a zip file on the fly and wanted to download this file.Problem is that in Internet explorer when I click the button the download accelrator comes with file name as my page saying resume opendialogueif i click open then DAP window close and normal windows download manager comes but the event of my button fires multiple time?I don't know what to do with it
I have a button that once clicked it open a pdf file in the same window. I need to be able to open in a new window
How can I open this pdf in a new window.
[Code]....
The reason for my request is that before a user click on print report, a user click on a button to make some of the controls on the page grayed out - enabled = false; so when a user click on print report, a pdf document open BUT once he click on return back in the browser, all the controls that were grayed out are back. so how to fix this issue. i thought to open a new window for the pdf.

How do I write Response.OutputStream to a file preferably in C#?
View 2 RepliesI am using a gridview to display (open or save) files that have been uploaded into a SQL 2005 server. I have a templatefield within the gridview that contains a linkbutton that does a postback to GetUploadedFile.aspx that then fires the response.binarywrite() code. The code seems to work fine and opens/saves the files correctly. But once this has completed and I try and click on another button on the page, instead of doing the appropriate action it re-fires the getuploadedfile.aspx binarywrite code and opens up the "Open/Save/Cancel" dialog again.

I'm using Filestream for read big file (> 500 MB) and I get the OutOfMemoryException. Any solutions about it??
I want this in my app:
Read DATA from Oracle
Uncompress file using FileStream and BZip2
Read file uncompressed and send it to asp.net page for download. When I read file from disk, Fails !!! and get OutOfMemory.
. My Code is:
using (var fs3 = new FileStream(filePath2, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read))
{
byte[] b2 = ReadFully(fs3, 1024);
}
// http://www.yoda.arachsys.com/csharp/readbinary.html
public static byte[] ReadFully(Stream stream, int initialLength)
{
// If we've been passed an unhelpful initial length, just
// use 32K.
if (initialLength < 1)
{
initialLength = 32768;
}
byte[] buffer = new byte[initialLength];
int read = 0;
int chunk;
while ((chunk = stream.Read(buffer, read, buffer.Length - read)) > 0)
{
read += chunk;
// If we've reached the end of our buffer, check to see if there's
// any more information
if (read == buffer.Length)
{
int nextByte = stream.ReadByte();
// End of stream? If so, we're done
if (nextByte == -1)
{
return buffer;
}
// Nope. Resize the buffer, put in the byte we've just
// read, and continue
byte[] newBuffer = new byte[buffer.Length * 2];
Array.Copy(buffer, newBuffer, buffer.Length);
newBuffer[read] = (byte)nextByte;
buffer = newBuffer;
read++;
}
}
// Buffer is now too big. Shrink it.
byte[] ret = new byte[read];
Array.Copy(buffer, ret, read);
return ret;
}
I am using HTML Input control that will open a file dialog window where user can select a file.
Is there a way to set a path from where to open the window. Right now it looks like the default folder is "My Documents".
I need it to point to something like "ftpexternalftp$Data"
I have a set of doc files with respect to the data in the sql. Now I have to C# code, so that when the column in the gridview is clicked then the respective name must appear ina linklabel in the windows form nad that label must be linked to the respective file. For eg:
name bacteria author citation
aaa myxo sri 12-333-3
vvv mmm xxx 1112-2-2
the values unser sitation must come to the linklabel and that must direct to the respective word files with the names 12-333-3,1112-2-2. Is it possible to do this some how as this is only one example I have many files as such. Is one label enough to perform the necessary action updating itself when I clicked the different columns in the datagrid view as I already did some coding recording linking each column value to a textbox.
I changed an app so one of the edit screens opens as a pop-up window via showModalDialog. Previously everything was done in the same window and more back and forth navigation was required. The pop-up provides greater continuity. Unfortunately, as a pop-up, files will not stream to the desktop. If I bring up the page by entering a URL on the address line, so it is not a pop-up, files stream to the desktop OK.
Streaming a file to the desktop is done as follows:
[Code]....
This causes an open/save/cancel dialog to appear in the browser. Does anyone have an idea why a file cannot be streamed to a pop-up window? To get pop-ups to work I always include
[Code]....
in the header. That way I can open other pop-ups such as warnings and database error messages from a prvious pop-up.
