I use the following code: (returns an excel obviously)
ControllerContext.HttpContext.Response.ContentType = "application/ms-excel";
ControllerContext.HttpContext.Response.Write(sw.ToString());
ControllerContext.HttpContext.Response.End();
return View();
where sw is a StringWriter in which i create my excel structure(a table). So, sw.ToString() is a table and some tds contains values like 0001234. When i open the excel file i see in those tds 1234, with no zeroes. What must i do to see those zeroes?

When I open an Excel file stored on Sharepoint, I have the option to open it Read Only or in Edit mode. If I open it Read Only, Excel opens up and I see "Server Workbook To modify this workbook, click Edit Workbook". I need to retrieve this Excel file through an ASP.NET application, yet still have this Server Workbook functionality.In fiddler, I see that when opening up in Sharepoint, a POST is made to SharepointSite/_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.dll with method=getdocument as one of the parameters sent and the filename as another.Do I need to repeat that POST via an ajax call or is there an easier way (as I suspect there is)?

I have a web page, that has lists of documents for a user to look at. I have the page working to allow a user to view any of the documents when they click the link. The only thing that wont work is a document that is .msg format for Outlook emails. I did some research and found that in order to get Outlook to open the document when opening a .msg document, you have to add the MIMEType application/vnd.ms-outlook to the list of MIMETypes that IIS will accept. I gave this a shot but still couldn't get it working.
Then what I tried was to output the MIMEType associated with a .msg when I was Saving the document so I could see what it was using. When I did this I got "application/octet-steam" So then I set the .msg extention to use octet stream. This allowed the document to be open, but used Notepad which then had really messed up formatting because of the email headers etc.
Does anyone know how I might get outlook to open up and show the email when a user clicks to view that document as opposed to Notepad?

I have a WebApplication1 running in a port (let's say 4000) and I'm trying to build a website (WebSite1), running on IIS, that is running on the same server. I have no control over the WebApplication1, it's a packaged software, WebSite1 is built by me.
The WebSite1 will do a custom user validation and then will let the user access the WebApplication1:4000 under the impersonated user under which the website is running, not the user in the client machine. Sort of like changing the user in the session.

we are working on a file download page. We want to download a file with a name with spaces and accents. Although the filename is shown correctly on the filedownload dialog, when we click open, the file name is shown with %e1%ba%a3n%20... on notepad. ('Save as' shows the correct name) This problem only happens in Internet Explorer.
Is there anyway we can Display the file name correctly (on the target application) after opening it (without saving) from file download dialog ?
We use this code to set the filename :
fileName = Server.UrlPathEncode(fileName);
Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename="" + fileName + """);

I'm trying to use the COM interop assembly to export some data to an Excel workbook for an ASP.NET web application. This works fine in development, since the server and the client are the same machine. However, when deployed, this is not the case. The deployed version does not throw an exception, but it also does not open Excel on the local machine (since ASP.NET is executed server-side, this is pretty obvious).
How do I go about creating an Excel application on the client's machine?

I've create a custom attribute for my web pages... In the base page class I've created I'm trying to pull if that attribute has been set. Unfortunately it does not come back as part of the GetCustomAttributes function. Only if I explicitly use the typeof(myclass) to create the class. I have a feeling it's due to how asp.net classes are generated.

I am creating an site where a user uploads an excel file to check if any of the records exist in a database. Then they are returned an excel file with only the records that are NOT in the database.
I was thinking I should do it this way1. User uploads their excel file. The app opens excel file and loads records into a dataset (so far this is working with the code below)2. Using datarow and another function to check if each excel record exists in the database3 If the record does NOT exist, and it is the first record tested, create an excel file called records.xlsx and write the record into the file
4. Check the next record and if it does NOT exist in the database, then check if records.xlsx already exists then open it and write it into it.
[Code]....
Hopefully its clear, sorry if its not, I'm a bit of a novice at this. Is this a good way to do it? Does anyone know of any tutorials that might outline how to open an existing file and write to it?

when I used a code of exporting gridview into excel this code worked for a new website which is without masterpage.
my code:
public override void VerifyRenderingInServerForm(Control control) { }
protected void BtnGenerateReport_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Response.Clear();
Response.Buffer = true;
Response.AddHeader("content-disposition",
"attachment;filename=GridViewExport.xls");
Response.Charset = "";
Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel";
StringWriter sw = new StringWriter();.....
Now the same code when I copy it in my project having masterpage . there is no compiler error but it is genereating excel file withno data in it but in fact there is data in the grid view at runtime.

I let my users upload picture files from a VB6 project. I can filter out all but the common file types (.jpg, .gif etc.) when sending to the FTP.
Is there a way to open the files with Asp.Net, without knowing the specific file type. Like FileName.* or something?

We have some table with messages. Each message could have attachments.
We need to have text of attachmnet inside html table of messages on web page. For the first stage we need to have at least support of doc, excel attachments (in future possibly will desire pdf). So in table we show from, subject and body as html cells of message tr. And cell for body should contain firstly rendered content of attached documents (with all images and styles), and then real message body. They don't want any links for download or something similar :(
I know only about possibility to use MS Word Save As logic (but don't have a lot of details). So in this case I should have MS word, excel installed on server. And based on type of attachment use one of the compopnents.
