Web Forms :: SEO - Page Link Casing When Lowercase Rule Is Applied?
Feb 4, 2011
I recently added a URL rewrite rule to my website so that all URLs that contain upper case letters are 301 redirected to the same URL, but replaced with lower case letters. [URL] redirect to [URL]. After running the IIS SEO toolkit, it's complaining about unnecessary redirects because of this rule whenever a link containing uppercase letters, like <a href="www.asp.com/MyPage.aspx">click</a>, is within my website. Since it's doing a 301 redirect, does it really hurt to leave the upper case letters in tact in the links, or am I going to have to go through hundreds, possibly thousands of links and manually switch the casing to all lowercase?

I have a product-page and a department-page. Both departments and products are picked from a database by their id (productid and deptid).
When I try to route like this, it seems that only the first rule is applied, Why? How can I solve this?
In global.asax:
[Code]....
With the above settings I can reach
http://mysite.com/myproduct.aspx but not
http://mysite.com/mydepartment.aspx.
If I switch so that the DeptList rule comes first "mydepartment.aspx" works but not "myproduct.aspx"....

Has anyone had any issues when updating a CSS file (app created from C# Application Web Site in VS2010) and not having the changes be reflected in the browser, but you can see them in the dev env? I've tried clearing cache and rebooting... After a while of trying to set a background image to .header (which shows up in the dev env) something crazy happens to my Default.aspx and I can't get any styles applied. I'm at a loss right now...

I'm getting a weird error. I have a css class and I dragged the reference onto the aspx. The compile-time page is recognizing the reference to the styles in the css because when I remove the css reference from the aspx the page displays squiggly lines under the CssClass references with a tooltip "cannot be found".
However, when I run the page the css classes aren't getting applied. Also weird - when I copy the css class definitions from the css file into a <style> tag in the <head> variable of my page the css classes DO get applied. I can't figure out why my css classes aren't getting applied at runtime even though the references appear to check out at compile time.

Here is my requirement -
1. I need to load a user control on link click event of a link button during postback of aspx page.
2. On button click event of a save button on that aspx page, I need to read the selected values from that user control on further postback.
If I write the loadcontrol code in link_click event, the control is not recognized at all in the button_click event. When I shift it to page_init and execute only during not postback, the user control loads with default values.

I have a Master Page which has an associated css file. On one of the base pages I have a div to which I am trying to apply a style from this css file by id. However, the page when rendered has a different id for this element. How can I specify the correct id name in the css file? Is there a way to specify that I want the id of this element like there is in javascript using the <%= Element.ClientID %>?

Response.RedirectPermanent(Url); can redirect permanently to a url.
However, during my SEO process, I decided to change my routhing rule.
For example,
I change "/tag/{tag}-quotes" routing rule to "quoes-about/{tag}", but I don't want to lose all the traffic to old routing url.
What is the best way to handle this permanent redirection?

I have a list XML elements that I need to compare to chars in an array. Some of the XML elements start with uppercase characters and some dont.
So I need to convert the XML elements to lowercase to compare them against "alphabet".
I'm doing this by converting the XML element to a string. Then setting that to lowercase. Then converting that to a char. Then comparing that to each char in "alphabet".
Is there a better way to get the XML into lowercase? IE without the two conversions

Currently in place, I have an outbound rule to convert lowercase URLS to lowercase and to also strip aspx extensions for SEO-friendly URL's...
[Code]....
Works great for all pages linked within my website, but when I'm linking to other websites it still downcases which ends up breaking the URL.

Normally, when my server gets an invalid sessionID on the url it rewrites it. However (several?) search engine(s) are sending requests to my server with a lower case in the session number, where there is normally an upper case S. So for example
(s(vou3fq454gk3fbrncrmk1bmj)) will not just rewrite the sessionID and keep going, but
(S(vou3fq454gk3fbrncrmk1bmj)) WILL rewrite the sessionID and keep going without an error.
This is filling up my database and making it hard for me to use it effectively, plus, I would just like it to work.
Is there any way for it is not care if that first '(s(' is lower case? Or is there a way for IIS to cope with this in an efficient manner?

i have a textbox, dropdownlist and a listbox. these 3 controls form my search engine where i can type some characters on the textbox then select one option from dropdownlist(eg.department), the listbox will populate names from the department that contain the characters. However i have one problem, my database contain all data in uppercase so when i type lowercase letter in the textbox nothing will be populated. Only when i type uppercase characters then something will populate. I think it got to do with my sql statement but i do not know how to do it

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to convert all URL's to lowercase using an Http Module for URL rewriting? For example www.homeforhire.com/Home.aspx should be converted to lowercase.
I cannot use the IIS7 URL Rewriter because I need to perform database lookups as part of my URL rewriting.
I have researched this extensively but have not had any luck finding a solution.
The only alternative I can think of is to use a dynamically created canonical link in my page headers.

I want to use wild card after first slash("/") in my url rewriting but i want other pages to redirect on particular page for e.g. if i use this
<rewrite url="~/(.+)" to="~/default.aspx" />
Then it will redirect all pages to to xyz.com/default.aspx
But i want this will fire last if i use some rule before that if will fire to that page not use this url rewriting like in MVC but i want it in through url rewriting e.g.
<rewrite url="~/submitform" to="~/submitform.aspx" />
<rewrite url="~/(.+)" to="~/default.aspx" />
in that case if user write xyz.com/submitform it will redirect to submitform.aspx else redirect to default.aspx.

I am having some trouble when I use ASP .Net 4's URL Rewrite feature while Authorization rules configured.
Global.asax
[Code]....
{Root}Web.Config
[Code]....
{Root}RestrictedWeb.config
[Code]....
The problem I am facing is: When I try to visit [URL]- because of my dashboard rule in Global.asax, instead of being redirected to [URL] I am actually getting the content of [URL] when I try to visit [URL] I do get redirected to [URL] which is a good sign.

I have spent a couple of days on this one. I have an ASP.NET website that has Linkbuttons on
the Default.aspx page.. I added a WebService to the Website because later on the WebService will
subscribe to a Provider(Feed) of News, Sports and Weather and things like that. So when a Linkbutton
on the Default.aspx page is clicked it will connect to the link in the WebService which will load the News,
Sports or Weather onto the Default.aspx web page.
The problem is I can't get the LinkButton to execute the Link in the WebService. The link will call the page up
to where you see all of the Web References. But then if you want to execute one of those references you
have to click its link and the Invoke button that will follow. My questioh is how can the link on my Default.aspx
page execute the link in the WebService. Now I changed the LinkButton into an <a href> but I still can't execute
the link in the WebServices. I always use www.Microsoft.com as the link when testing and I wasn't sure about the return type
so I put "void" for an HTTPRequest, so below is the link from the Default.aspx web page and below that is he asmx file:
