CSS Not Being Applied To Base Page Element When Referenced By Id
Mar 18, 2010
I have a Master Page which has an associated css file. On one of the base pages I have a div to which I am trying to apply a style from this css file by id. However, the page when rendered has a different id for this element. How can I specify the correct id name in the css file? Is there a way to specify that I want the id of this element like there is in javascript using the <%= Element.ClientID %>?

I'm getting a weird error. I have a css class and I dragged the reference onto the aspx. The compile-time page is recognizing the reference to the styles in the css because when I remove the css reference from the aspx the page displays squiggly lines under the CssClass references with a tooltip "cannot be found".
However, when I run the page the css classes aren't getting applied. Also weird - when I copy the css class definitions from the css file into a <style> tag in the <head> variable of my page the css classes DO get applied. I can't figure out why my css classes aren't getting applied at runtime even though the references appear to check out at compile time.

Has anyone had any issues when updating a CSS file (app created from C# Application Web Site in VS2010) and not having the changes be reflected in the browser, but you can see them in the dev env? I've tried clearing cache and rebooting... After a while of trying to set a background image to .header (which shows up in the dev env) something crazy happens to my Default.aspx and I can't get any styles applied. I'm at a loss right now...

I recently added a URL rewrite rule to my website so that all URLs that contain upper case letters are 301 redirected to the same URL, but replaced with lower case letters. [URL] redirect to [URL]. After running the IIS SEO toolkit, it's complaining about unnecessary redirects because of this rule whenever a link containing uppercase letters, like <a href="www.asp.com/MyPage.aspx">click</a>, is within my website. Since it's doing a 301 redirect, does it really hurt to leave the upper case letters in tact in the links, or am I going to have to go through hundreds, possibly thousands of links and manually switch the casing to all lowercase?

I am new in asp .net.I am not able to undestand why we call base class method when we
override methods/events.Like automatically visual studio will put base.OnInit() if you are overriding OnInit.
protected override void OnInit(EventArgs e)
{
base.OnInit(e);
}
same is the case of Finalize. In derived we call base.Finalize() Is there any need of calling these base class methods ?

I have to implement User base security in my Web project using .Net3.5. Followings are some we need:
Roles can be Admin, Manage, Editor, Member etc User can have multiple roles Every roles has its own dynamic menus and restrictions/resources All menus and interface will populate dynamically from Database
I heard some where this kind of i.e user base security can be implemented using HashTable but I dont know how is it?
Today I came to know that for this kind of work Java people use Interceptor Design patterns. So, how could I do the same in asp.net C#?

I m having little misunderstanding that how basepage inheritance work in asp.net. I saw this example [URL] and others and I just have questions to get better understanding on the articles: Do we always need override type function in base page even if we dont want to overwrite in child page. What is the purpose of "MyBase.OnLoad(e)"?
' -- VB.NET
Public Class MyBaseClass
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Protected Overrides Sub OnLoad(ByVal e As EventArgs)
'... add custom logic here ...
'Be sure to call the base class's OnLoad method!
MyBase.OnLoad(e)
End Sub
End Class

I am feeling that I have terribly wrong somewhere. I was working on a small asp.net app. I have some dynamic themes in the heme folder and have implemented a page base class to load the master page on the fly. The master is having the ContentPlaceHolder like: <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="cphBody" runat="server" />
Now I am adding pages that are derived from my base class and added the form elements. I know, Visual Studio has problem showing the page in the design mode. I have a dropdown box and wish to add the event of onselectedindexchange. But it is not working. the page is like this:
<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" Inherits="trigon.web.Pages.MIS.JobStatus" Title="Job Status" AspCompat="true" CodeBehind="JobStatus.aspx.cs" %>
<asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="cphBody" runat="Server">
<div id="divError" runat="server" />
<asp:DropDownList runat="server" id="jobType" onselectedindexchange="On_jobTypeSelection_Change"></asp:DropDownList>
</asp:Content>
I have also tried adding the event on the code behind like:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
jobType.SelectedIndexChanged += new System.EventHandler(this.On_jobTypeSelection_Change);
if (!IsPostBack)
{
JobStatus_DA da = new JobStatus_DA();
jobType.DataSource = da.getJobTypes();
jobType.DataBind();
}
}
protected void On_jobTypeSelection_Change(Object sender, EventArgs e)
{
//do something here
}

I have a custom basepage and a master page in my web application. In my master page, there are events that I run from each page in my web application. Instead of putting the code in each of my pages, I decided to create a base page that each web page will inherit from. Trouble is, I cannot get the base page to invoke the events on the master page.

All I want to do is access the <body> element from the code-behind of a content page and add a class name to it.
I have a top-level master page with the <body> element in it. Then I have a nested master page which is the master page for the content page. From the code behind of the content page I want to add a class name to the body element. That's all.
I have this in the top-level master:
<body id="bodyNode" runat="server">
I added this to the code-behind for the content page:
Master.bodyNode.Attributes.add("class", "home-page");
And I get a message that:
System.Web.UI.MasterPage' does not contain a definition for 'bodyNode
If I add this to the aspx content page:
<% @ MasterType VirtualPath="~/MasterPage.master"%>
The message then changes to:
bodyNode is inaccessible due to its protection level
I've wasted like 2 hours on what feels like something that should be really simple to do

I'm looking at an asp.net application, i notice that there are assemblies defined into two places. In web.config there is configuration/system.web/compilation/assemblies/add elements. In the project file there are references setup under the Project/ItemGroup/Reference elements.
I was wondering, what is the difference between assemblies/references added in either location?

I'm workng on a new, green-field ASP.Net application. We're implementing a base page which all pages will be, er, based on. The application will be running under Integrate Windows Auth, so I'll have the user's account details. With these, I'll be going to several databases (in which the user will exist) to find out what roles they are assigned to in each db. I'll be holding the role yay/nay in a bool array, and key into it via an enum.
There will be a session object that will hold a few things, and the roles assigned for that user. I'm thinking of making the session object available as a property of the base page, as the code would be something like this:
public SessionObject MasterSessionObject
{
get
{[CODE]....
But, I'm sure you'll agree, it looks sucky...If there was a CheckSecurity method on the base page, it would have to take a concrete DatabaseRoles object, but also an enum of which role to check, which would also look sucky. And finally, there would be a requirement at a later date to add more databases and their security settings...
I'll add code tomorrow if required... :-s
I dunno, I'm not that thick, but I do have a hard time sometimes binding all this together...

I have noticed that when I create a website in a network drive and use the Ajax toolkit I get :
Element 'ToolkitScriptManager' is not a known element
I also noticed that after adding the ToolkitScriptManager it doesn't add the ID in the source code, it looks like this:
<asp:ToolkitScriptManager runat="server"></asp:ToolkisScriptManager>
Is missing the ID="ToolkitScriptManager1" part.
This doesn't happen when I create the site in my local drive. Is there a workaround to this. Even if I add the missing parts, I keep getting the same error.

I've tried setting the <pages pageBaseType="DynamicWebPage" /> value in web.config, but when I response.write out the page type, I'm still getting Microsoft.WebPages.WebPage.
I'm simply trying to sub-class WebPage and add some additional functionality such as a dynamic PageData dictionary similar to Phil Haack's dynamic ViewData dictionary.
