I am working on ASP.NET3.5 platform. I have used a file upload control and a asp button to upload a file. Whenever i try to upload a file which contain special characterlike (file#&%.txt) it show crash and give the messeage "Server Error in 'myapplication' Application." A potentially dangerous Request.Files value was detected from the client (filename="...New Text &#.txt"). Description: Request Validation has detected a potentially dangerous client input value, and processing of the request has been aborted. This value may indicate an attempt to compromise the security of your application, such as a cross-site scripting attack. You can disable request validation by setting validateRequest=false in the Page directive or in the configuration section. However, it is strongly recommended that your application explicitly check all inputs in this case.
Exception Details: System.Web.HttpRequestValidationException: A potentially dangerous Request.Files value was detected from the client (filename="...New Text &#.txt"). Source Error: An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below. how can i prevent this crash using javascript at client side?

I'm interested in identifying a means to verify the server-side validation is performing as expected, but need to bypass the client-side validation being done using ASP.NET validation controls. To test this, I've tried using the form Poster add-on to Firefox that allowed me to get/modify the page contents and post it, but the .NET framework interpreted the submission as harmful and threw an application error ("A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client").I've created a WinForm that includes a WebBrowser control and I'm able to manipulate the contents of the web page and invoke the button click, but am interested in seeing how to allow a postback with invalid input values. I don't want to assume the server-side validation works (even though I do check if Page.IsValid on the server on postback).This submits the web form in the WebBrowseer control and the expected client-side validation fires:
extendedWebBrowser1.Document.GetElementById(formButtonName).InvokeMember("click");
This is how I've manipulated some of the page contents (this just prevents submission):
mshtml.IHTMLDocument2 doc = extendedWebBrowser1.Document.DomDocument as mshtml.IHTMLDocument2;
string html = doc.body.innerHTML;
html.Replace("Page_ValidationActive = false", "Page_ValidationActive = true");
doc.body.innerHTML = html.ToString();
extendedWebBrowser1.Document.GetElementById(formButtonName).InvokeMember("click");

Actually i am using JavaScript validation for Image or Word or Excel File & its working perfectly. My aim is making its full professional.
For Example When you use Photoshop and open any file you see only those extension which are applicable for Photoshop i.e. jpg, jpeg bmp, psd, png etc. You never see .doc, .xls or any other which are not open with Photoshop. This is i want to do, When i open for an Image it should show only Image Type file extension in file type By default its its showing All Files, As i use extension validation in JavaScript, it never accept .doc or .xls files in Image Type Validation but it will show. I want only that file type show for which i open.

I have 2 custom validator controls on my page but for some strange reason the Custom Validator for FileUpload control works and the custom validator for TextBox control does not work. Here is the aspx code:
<asp:FileUpload ID="_fileCv" runat="server" Width="500px" /><br />
<asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="_rfvFileCv" runat="server" ErrorMessage="Resume; " ControlToValidate="_fileCv" SetFocusOnError="True" ValidationGroup="APPLY">
<img src="images/mandatory.gif" alt="Required" /></asp:RequiredFieldValidator
<asp:CustomValidator ID="CustomValidator1" runat="server" ControlToValidate="_fileCv"
ErrorMessage="Max file size for documents is 4MB." OnServerValidate="CustomValidator1_ServerValidate" ValidationGroup="APPLY"></asp:CustomValidator>
<asp:TextBox ID="_txtHealthComments" runat="server" TextMode="MultiLine" Rows="5" Width="500" />
<asp:CustomValidator ID="CustomValidator2" runat="server" ControlToValidate="_txtHealthComments"
ErrorMessage="Kindly enter health Comments ." OnServerValidate="CustomValidator2_ValidateHealth" ValidationGroup="APPLY"></asp:CustomValidator>
Here is the code behind:
protected void CustomValidator1_ServerValidate(object source, ServerValidateEventArgs args) {
if (_fileCv.FileBytes.Length > 4194304) {
args.IsValid = false;
} else { args.IsValid = true; } }
protected void CustomValidator2_ValidateHealth(object source, ServerValidateEventArgs args) {
if (_rdoHealth.SelectedValue == "1" && _txtHealthComments.Text == "") {
args.IsValid = false; } else { args.IsValid = true; } }

I'm using an entity model with metadata annotations. My controller method looks like this...
if (!ModelState.IsValid)
{
return View(model);
}
else
{
UpdateModel(model);
repo.Save();
return RedirectToAction("Index");
}
If I enable client side validation in the view I'll get the error per the Attributes from the metadata class. If I take clientside validation out, error gets thrown from saving to the DB rather than return the view with an Error Summary.
This is the top portion of my view....
<% using (Html.BeginForm())
{%>
<%: Html.ValidationSummary(true) %>
I've tried running without debugging (ctrl + f5) in debug and release mode as well as setting breakpoints and Debugging (f5) but it just seems weird to get Client side validation without server side validation. What am I missing here?

I am using ASP.NET's server-side validation. In the page_load event I'm calling Page.Validate(), and if Page.IsValid is not true I'm then polling the controls to figure out which ones are not valid, and then determining what actions to take.It would be much easier if each control would raise an event as validation fails, allowing me to take action for that particular control. I'm very much a naive programmer when it comes to validation, but is there a way to extend these controls so that a validation error raises an event?

I have in the fact copied the code of Login page in the ASP.NET MVC application template (provided with VS). In the original template, client side validation is working but when I copy all the connected code I get only server side validation (no red fields, post back even if data are incorrect).
public class LogOnModel {
[Required]
[Display(Name = "User name")]
public string UserName { get; set; }
[Required]
[DataType(DataType.Password)]
[Display(Name = "Password")]
public string Password { get; set; }
[code]...

FileUpload1.PostedFile.ContentType;
}

<input
type="button"
value="Create"
onclick="javascript:saveAddress(0);"
/>
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
function saveAddress(id) {
var form = document.forms[0];
form.action = '/AddressType/Create';
form.submit();
}

Have some problems with client side validation (using RequiredFieldValidator, RegularExpressionValidator, CustomValidator with client side validation logic). It seems that WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions is not fired or causes unhandled exception that makes the form to do the postback regardless it's valid or not.
I tried using a ValidationSummary, hiding it if javascript is supported:
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#javascriptDisabled").hide();
[code]...
Every thing works fine on Chrome with disabled javascript on my laptop, but not on my Android phone. The problem is that on the phone Javascript is not disabled, it's enabled, and correctly hides the ValidationSummary, but does not perform client side validation for some reason that i can't understand (no developers tools on Android browser :(( ).This is very frustrating! :(

I'm trying to get a very simple client side validation example to work in ASP.NET MVC 2. I'm using data annotations to set a required property "Surname". When I use the Html.ValidationMessageFor(x => x.Surname) the correct client side validation script is written to the page. But when I use Html.ValidationMessage("Surname") the client side validation is not rendered out until after the page has been posted. Client side validation only starts working after a form post! I can see that the script is updated in the page after a form post. There appears to be a bug in Html.ValidationMessage()?

if I have done the Validation in .aspx file for Server Side control as
<asp:TextBox ID="TextBox_Phoneno" runat="server" Width="125px" MaxLength="12"></asp:TextBox>
<asp:RegularExpressionValidator id="RegularExpressionValidator2" runat="server"
ControlToValidate="TextBox_Phoneno"
ErrorMessage="Please enter a default 10 digit contact number (eg:111-111-1111)."
ValidationGroup="next3" ValidationExpression="(((d{3}) ?)|(d{3}-))?d{3}-d{4}">*
</asp:RegularExpressionValidator>
should I have to do Server Side code validation in .aspx.cs file also using classes such as RegexStringValidator. Is it not enough to do validation using the above code. Will it work for Server Side also.

I have a hidden variable and its value is being updated using javascript(client side) which I make a call from server side code. After making the call I am not able to retrieve the updated value from Server side variable. I went through this forum [URL] but not able find a way how to implement functionality with IFRAME. I am trying to call the client side code and retrieve the updated value from server side in page_load event.
