Web Forms :: Session Variables Value Lost On Page Refresh?
Jul 27, 2010
I am developing an application using Visual Studio 2010 and SQLServer 2008. My application has two pages and the first page contains a GridView with all the records "User Administration" and when user click on any Username (template field ->linkbutton) I read the USERID like this.
Session["UserID"] = e.commandArgument;
Response.Redirect("UserOperations.aspx");
which takes it to the Data Entry page where user updates the information and save the data.
The problem i am facing is that when I hit the browser REFRESH button couple of times the session variables looses the value which is trouble for me as I am using Session Variables for different purposes.

And I have a custom Membership Providor....
<membership defaultProvider="SqlMemberShipProvider" userIsOnlineTimeWindow="15" hashAlgorithmType="">
<providers>

<add
name="SqlMemberShipProvider"
type="RoalManagement.SqlMemberShipProvider"
connectionStringName="SqlServices"

Now in login page after firsttime login i set some session data... like
protected void Login_LoggedIn(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
//.....
Session["EMPLOYEELOGGEDIN"] = "Y";
//.....
}
Now say i close the browser... and next time when i open the site it takes me directly to the default page [Login_LoggedIn is not called accordingly]... because i'm already logged in for 30 mins acc. to configuration. but as my session id gets changed i can't access Session["EMPLOYEELOGGEDIN"] from any page in this time. It always returns null. But how do i get back the previous session for that person?

I'm evaluating using Ajax in a new project and so I've developed a simple web page to test a few things, however even the simplest task seems to cause my session to be cleared. I am using VS2008 with .Net 3.5 SP1 and the page is in my existing solution which has several custom handlers and modules in the web.config. Below is the code I'm using, it's a simple test which puts a variable into the session then on the buttons postback tries to get the same variable, however it always fails as the session is blank.
The Default.aspx code snippet
<form id="form1" runat="server">
<asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server" /> [code]....

I have health monitoring enabled on a production system (asp.net webforms .net 4) and I see that there's a lot of errors being sent to me indicating that a session variable has been lost.(I am trying to attach something out of session state to a entity framework data context and get a "Value cannot be null, parameter n ame entity" error). So somehow the session variable now contains null and not an object. Interestingly we have the same application deployed on two separate servers - one DMZ server for external users and one internal server for internal users. Both of these applications on two different servers seem to have the same problem.
Health Monitoring is also monitoring lifetime events and I can see from this that we do not have something like IIS recycling, config changes, changes to bin folder, recompilations etc, occuring. I've read this page: [URL] I can confirm that it's not a Response.Redirect problem because that's not happening - this is an online application form - it puts an object in session state on page_load and there's a multiview - when "next" is pressed, the object comes out of session state, is attached to the data context, changes are made from the web form and the datacontext updated. So there's no response.redirect happening.
I can also confirm the details in "Update 1" and "Update 2" from that link are not relevant to me - there is only 1 worker process running in the application pool and the server name or web address do not contain underscores. I also persued the possibility of session timeouts occuring but they should be handled by other code which is running to detect session timeouts (see: [URL]) which I have tested over and over - Part of the problem is I just cannot reproduce this error myself.......................

Is there a good way to keep the session after a user clicked reload/refresh? My boss wants this functionality, and I don't really/really don't want to use a query string...

I am working on an asp.net website using C#. The site deals with orders and therefore order lines. I would like to store the order in memory whilst it is being populated (with order lines) and once it gets submitted write it to a database.
The above logic has been implemented, but sometimes when accessing session state or storing a variable in it information gets lost. Take note that the web server is running a dual-core processor. I am also using the in proc session state server.
I tried changing over to using the out proc session state server (asp.net state service), but it requires serialization. Since the order and orderlines are actually linq to sql classes, the entitysets and entityref's fail to serialize.
Does anyone know the reason why session state loses information occasionally and possibly how to eliminate the problem?

I have an app which has a form that used to use AutoPostBack rigged controls (dropdowns, radiobuttons etc.) in an updatepanel, and I used to set session values on each postback. I posted the form using PostBackUrl to an external page, using a bit of javascript OnClientClick to copy my data into meaningfully named hidden fields.
Now, I've had to rewrite the AutoPostBack-ing controls so that all the cascading dropdown work and date calculation etc. is done in JavaScript, and not in C# - no more postbacks, no more updatepanel.
This means I've lost the ability to set my session values on postback. Can anyone think of a solution for setting these before I post my form? I need to set the session variables, plus post (querystrings are not an option) to the external page with the values from my form - and actually send the user to the external page, too.

I have a web application that contains a MasterPage and a Web.sitemap file for the navigation. I am loading the navigation into an <asp:Repeater> control and I associating it with <asp:LinkButton>; something like this:
[Code]....
I have two issues:
Setting Session Variables: I'd like to set some session variables when any menu item is clicked.Dynamic Url: Once the Session variables are set, I'd like to set the url dynamically after the Session variable is set The thing is, I'd like to use the same aspx file for two different menu items, and I'd also like to set some session variables at the time of menu selection. I am aware that I cannot use the same url when I define the url in the web.sitemap file.

Building asp.C# shopping app that is using a hosted payment page to process payments (using posting of data to a hosted payment page). SSL certificate is signed and installed.
Flow:
Prelim) (HTTPS) Users authenticate using asp Login control
1) Users add items to cart.
2) (HTTPS)Users go to checkout page.
3) Users finalize their order, then click pay now after agreeing to T&C.
4) Server gets cart data (from MSSQL2005) and sets a transaction cookie (expiry set to 20 mins).
5) (HTTPS) Server Response.Redirects to an html page (in the same folder as the login protected pages).
6) Html page reads transaction cookie data and generates form fields.
7) (HTTPS) Html page posts data to hosted payment page (php).
8) User enters payment info and clicks pay now.
9) (HTTPS) hosted payment page posts info back to a .aspx page that checks if payment OK.
10a) If payment !OK, redirects to a declined page.
10b) (HTTPS) If payment OK, sets a verification cookie (expiry set to 20 mins). Then redirects to another html page.
11) Html page reads cookie data and generates form fields.
12) (HTTPS) Html page posts data to hosted verification page (php).
13) Verification page verifies (of course), if transaction ok.
14) (HTTPS) verification page posts data to a .aspx page that checks if verification OK.
15) If verification OK, process orders and do receipt stuff.
Issue:
This control flow was tested on an unsigned dev environment. SSL was being enforced, if needed on the unsigned SSL certificate. So we'd get prompts that certificate may be bad, but the control flow worked seamlessly.
However, now live with a signed SSL certificate, going from step 5 to 6, we are encountering a situation where some users (not duplicated every time, but verified that it does occur) when they click pay now and are redirected to the html page, they are forced back to the ~/login.aspx page (as if they were logged out).
Things to note:
a) The session did not time out.
b) The browsers have cookies and javascript enabled.
c) I can process the entire flow seamlessly on the same machine with other accounts, and occasionally, the same account.
So, basically, I'm stumped... Is this a viewstate error? A login control bug that won't let me redirect to an html page because it is now using a real SSL? Anyone have any experience with this kind of deal? I'm at a loss for solutions at this point.

I'm trying to convert a game I made (WindowsFormApplication) to an ASP.NET page.
My Problem is that I have a lot "private" variables in my WindowFormApplication and those variables are important for the game. But when after I Declare all my variables (in my Page_Load), they turn null no matter what I do(click a button, refresh the page).
Is there anyway to save my variables between buttons (other than Session, because I'd have to create like 6 more sessions)

This is my page code
Code:
Protected Sub btnLogin_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles btnLogin.Click
Dim blnLogin As Boolean
blnLogin = Login(txtUserLogin.Text, txtPassword.Text)
If blnLogin = True Then
[Code] .....
So after the user presses the Login button there should be 3 variables stored in a session, this works (checked using trace='true')
Session State
Session KeyTypeValue
LoggedInSystem.String
LoggedInUserSystem.StringUser
LoggedInIDSystem.Int322
That's fine. Now I click on the AddToWall button to check if I can get the LoggedInID, it shows an empty messagebox.
In the trace there are no Sessions keys left.How can I make it keep the keys after postback/after clicking on buttons?
Note: When calling GetFriends(Session("LoggedInUser")) in the same sub as the Login button the variable does get passed to the class with sub GetFriends()
Here's my web.config
Code:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<configuration>
<system.web>
<compilation debug="true" targetFramework="4.0" />
<sessionState timeout="30" />
</system.web>
</configuration>

I am using C#.
I am having below code in C#:
protected override void OnInit(EventArgs e)
{
try
{
if (Session["boolSignOn"].ToString() == "true".ToString())
{
lblPanelOpen.Text = Session["panelOpen"].ToString();
}
else
{
lblPanelOpen.Text = Session["panelOpen"].ToString();
}
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
Logger.Error("Error processing request:" + ex.Message);
}
}
protected override void OnLoad(EventArgs e)
{
try
{
if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(Session["panelOpen"].ToString()))
{
lblPanelOpen.Text = string.Empty;
Session.Remove("panelOpen");
}
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
Logger.Error("Unable to remove the session variable:" + ex.Message);
}
}
In above code I am having a Session["panelOpen"] variable which is created from another user control and once my page is trying to render, I am storing Session["panelOpen"] in my hidden lblPanelOpen.Text on page OnInit() method, however when page is loaded completely then I am trying to remove the session variable.

I'm using the beta version of Visual Studio 2010. I'm running my ASP.NET 4.0 website through the debugger. Whenever there is a page load (e.g. clicking on a link, a postback) the session is ended and a new session is created. This wipes out all the session variables and makes debugging impossible. How to get session variables to persist across page loads?
Is this problem unique to running ASP.NET in a test environment or unique to the beta 2 version of VS 2010?

I'm trying to set session variables in one page, and retrieve them in my code file in the page that it posts to.
I keep getting this error. I put the correct namespaces in, and enabledSessionState = true to my application files, but no luck.
Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the <configuration><system.web><httpModules> section in the application configuration.
I'm just calling a session variable, and I get that error
e.g,
Public AUID As Integer = Convert.ToInt16(Session("AUID"))

I have an webforms app that loses it's session variables on response.redirect. I've read Bertrand Le Roy's blog about this and still can't get it to work. The page works in production. However, when I try in the VS2k8 IDE, the session variables are there right before response.redirect and on the first line of the next page, the variables are nothing. I've confirmed the session id is the same so I'm not skipping sessions. The target page is relative so the web server doesn't think we're changing sites (as confirmed by the sessionid).
Response.Redirect("menu.aspx", False)

I have a gridView and on the DataBound event I am assigning a Session variable from one of the gridview results. This session is then used to determine if certain nodes in a menu are visible. One problem is that when the session variable is assigned, the menu is not updating, until either I refresh the page manully in the browser or move to another page.
