Web Forms :: Tab Functionality Without Using Tab Control?

Jul 8, 2010

In my application, every time the active tabpage changes, I connect to a database, fill a datatable, and bind it to my data control. That's all the functionality.

The main reason I don't want to use the ajax tabcontrol is because of the way it's rendered on the browser. Assuming that
tabcontrol.autopostback is true, the user clicks on another tabpage and he will see the tab change, and for a fraction of a second he'll
see the data previously displayed in that tab. Then the page will do postback and the data in that tabpage will be refreshed. It just seems awkward. I also want it to work even if javascript is disabled.

I also tried using the multiview control, but it doesn't work without javascript.I simply want a "tabcontrol" similar to the one used on ebay.com. Once you do a search, you'll see three tabs: "All items", "Auctions only", and "Buy It Now Only". I can have everything disabled (active scripting, Flash, etc) and they still work.

Web Forms :: How To Add Some Client Side Functionality To A User Control

Feb 28, 2011

I am trying to add some client side functionality to a user control that I have written.

A really simplified version of my scenario is as follows:

I have a control called MyControl. This has a javascript method called doSomething that simply shows the current date and time in an alert box.I add an instance of MyControl to a page called WebForm1. I want to be able to call myControl1.doSomething when a regular (non ASP.NET) button on WebForm1 is pressed.

I'm sure this is really simple but I can't for the life of me figure out what I need to do make doSomething available.

What's The Best Method For Extending The Functionality Of A Standard Web Server Control

Nov 21, 2010

Currently my code resembles this:

<%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="CustomPanel.ascx.cs"
CodeFile="CustomPanel.ascx.cs" CodeFileBaseClass="System.Web.UI.WebControls.Panel"
Inherits="MyProject.CustomPanel" %>
...
namespace MyProject
{ public partial class CustomPanel : System.Web.UI.WebControls.Panel
{ ... }
}

However, I'm really not sure how to proceed from here, because this does not appear to follow a logical inheritance path that includes System.Web.UI.UserControl / Am I doing something wrong? How can I inherit Panel and extend standard event-handlers, such as PreInit?

Use AJAX Control Toolkit Client-side Functionality Without IIS?

Feb 8, 2011

I ran an ASP.NET page that i have under development on my local IIS. It uses some dragPanelExtenders as well as some other AJAX Control Toolkit AJAX client side stuff, and in order to show the page to somebody, I wanted to put it up as a plain HTML file, hosted on a live web server (running APACHE). (This is the only public web server I have access to, and I want them to be able to drag some panels and experience the page as it would be when "live")

So, I viewed the page running on my local IIS, then saved the source as a HTML file.

Then copied this HTML file to the web server ( as well as necessary CSS, JS and image files).

When I view this HTML file through the web server, I get this error :

ASP.NET Ajax client-side framework failed to load.

By debugging, I see that the following lines were in my saved HTML :

<script src="/Insata10/WebResource.axd?d=VAXZudqFsChpNfB" type="text/javascript">
<script src="/Insata10/ScriptResource.axd?d=Dwbyv-OIp-kJQdqf_UMh7wUzi2" type="text/javascript">
<script type="text/javascript">
if (typeof(Sys) === 'undefined') throw new Error('ASP.NET Ajax client-side framework failed to load.');

So, at runtime, the referenced resources "ScriptResource.axd" and "WebResource.axd" were not found.

Is there any way to get whatever is needed from those AXD's to my HTML file, without actually executing anything on IIS?

Forms Data Controls :: Creating Paging Functionality With A Data List Control With Asp.net (VB, Not C#)

Nov 7, 2010

I am in need of getting the correct sysntax for being able to use paging with a datalist whose data is being generated by a SQL Datasource and a stored procedure inside the aspx(asp.net VB...Not C#) page. A Gridview or any other rigid control that does not allow full control and layout will not work so I have to use the datalist. I have the datalist working perfectly but I need to add paging. I did some searching and found a good solution. It was a C# solution, in particular the code behind syntax so I used a code converter to convert it to VB. However, as I am not an experienced coder I need help converting the portion for handling the datalist. I am fairly confident I have the buttons on the aspx page worked out. I will ask that if you se something I need to do besides the section(5) I have listed please offer suggestions. So that you can help me better I have boken the code out into sections where I'm listing the code I copied, my code and the section I need help with. I think at a minimum I will have to change the references of Repeater to Datalist.

The section I need help with is section 5 where the original autor is referencing items generated in the Repeater where he used XML. As I said I'm using a SQL Datasource with a Datalist so I truly don't understand what I need to change to get the code behind to work with my Datalist. As always I appreciate all of you guys and ladies help. And also as always I will ask to please provide the actual code to type in because telling me how to do it just won't help very much. Sorry about that.

Here is what I have:

What Is The Best Way To Implement "Copy To New" Functionality With FormView Control And Content Templates

Nov 30, 2010

I have a FormView control in an ASP.NET page. I use the InsertItemTemplate and EditItemTemplate to provide data manipulation functionality, and it is working very well. I would like to allow the user to "Copy to new" from an existing item. In other words, I want the user to be able to display an item as if they are going to edit it, then, if they click a "Copy to new" button, it will load the information from that item into an "Insert" form so they could just change the bits of data that they want, and insert the new item.

The data objects we are dealing with are fairly large so, providing this functionality will save the user a lot of data entry misery.

I have experimented with copying the existing EditItemTemplate controls in the Copy button's click event, storing them, and writing them to the new InsertItemTemplate controls, once the form is reloaded (in the Page_PreRender event). But this is pretty ugly stuff. There has to be a better/simpler way.

Web Forms :: Finding Tab Functionality In Webforms

Feb 4, 2011

i need to implement a tab functionality in a web page, which displays different gridviews on click of each tab. There might also be navigation buttons inside each tab for displaying popup and refreshing back the tab content on closing the popup.

Kindly let me know what approach would be an efficient way of implement this.

In my mind there are two options,

a) simply use imagebuttons(as i need to have custom image for tab header which i am not able to do it in ajax tabcontainer) and multiview controls to display various tab contents in a single *.aspx page(But i think this would mess up the aspx page with lot of code, as i need to have approx six gridview and its functions).

b) use an iframe instead of mutliview and make each tab content as seperate *.aspx page. (but i find there is postback occuring on movement from one tab to another even if i button iframe inside updatepanel & some people are request not to use iframes).

I'm planning to add application help functionality to an asp.net site, with the following requirements:

1. Help links to be introduced throughout the application, either at the page level or next to a particular textbox, with a popup that will show guidance to users on how to use that page or what to enter in that textbox.

2. Content of these help popups to be managed by a designated end-user (not the site's developers).Currently we are using help popups that are programmed into the system and can only be changed through site upgrades.

Web Forms :: Combining LinkButton And HyperLink Functionality?

Jan 31, 2011

I have links inside an UpdatePanel, that when clicked, need to add a history point via the ScriptManager. As far as I know, the only way to add a history point is server side, which requires an OnClick event to execute the code, limiting my links to be either Buttons, LinkButtons, or ImageButtons. The problem is that using any one of these does not allow my users to right-click on the link and select "Open in new window/tab," which is very important. Using a HyperLink would allow the user to right click and open the page in a new window, but since it is rendered as a normal <a href /> has no way that I know of to reach a server side event handler. how to add a history point while still allowing the user to right click on a link and open the content in a new window?
