Web Forms :: Treeview's Expanded Flag Held In SiteMap?
Jun 8, 2010
I have a simple Treeview based on my SiteMap with Security Trimming turned on.
Rather than defining a fixed ExpandedDepth in the Treeview, is it possible to add a property to the SiteMap that indicates which nodes should be expanded?

I am trying to maintain the state of a TreeView on postback. I have a simple method to save the state of the tree on postback but it does not seem to capture the Expanded and the Selected state. Also, i have another method to restore the tree state after a postback. When a user selects an item in the TreeView i would like to have this item highlighted/selected. Along those lines i would also like to have all expanded or collapsed mainated after a postback.
[Code]....
store the state of a TreeView on postback?

I have a public folder on the server that contains recursively nested sub folders. In the various Leaf folders contains Images. I wanted to create a server side file browser that will display the Images to the user.I am using the ASP.NET TreeView Control.I create the tree nodes using PopulateOnDemand.
If the user click on a leaf directory I want the images in that folder to be displayed in a DataList Control.The problem is that when I click on a sub tree node (after I expanded it parent node)All the expanded sub tree disappears and only the parent node is showed with no + sign next to it !!( I have set the TreeView's PopulateNodesFromClient property to true )Here is the code :
<asp:TreeView ID="TreeView1" runat="server" AutoGenerateDataBindings="False"
onselectednodechanged="TreeView1_SelectedNodeChanged"
ontreenodepopulate="TreeView1_TreeNodePopulate">

I have a web app with treeview based on a fairly simple sitemap. The only catch is that I want to be able to remove nodes based on a user's role. We are NOT using the asp.net security so I can't take advantage of the built-in function.When I put code in the master page load event (or anywhere else it seems), there seems to be nothing in the treeview object yet, so I can't make changes to it.

I have the following class:
[Code]....
It was my expectation that by default, the Title property would be stored in ViewState, but this appears not to be the case - the exception in RenderBeginTag keeps getting thrown on postback.
Am I being thick? Do I need to explicitly store properties in ViewState?

I've been having some production runtime errors that I don't fully understand. This has happened to us on a couple different ASP.NET 4.0 Web Sites (shudders - yes, I know - we're porting it to MVC but that's taking some time).
First of all, we have never been able to reproduce this issue in development/QA environments. Secondly, upon deployment, the issue seems to be non-existent. Sometimes the issue manifests within a day or two of deployment and other times the deployment will be live for a month without it manifesting at all. However, once it manifests, then ANY page viewed under the web site causes the error. Lastly, this problem seemed to only come up once we migrated to .NET 4.0. We started at 2.0, a year ago upped to 3.5, and recently upped to 4.0 with this solution and most child projects.
The error:
Could not find the sitemap node with URL '~/Default.aspx'.
A simplified version of our sitemap (with some names changed and uninteresting nodes removed) is as follows:
<siteMap xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/AspNet/SiteMap-File-1.0">
<siteMapNode roles="*" title="EG">
<siteMapNode url="~/../SM/Default.aspx" title="Welcome" description="" roles="*" />
<siteMapNode url="~/../SD/Default.aspx" title="SD" description="" roles="*" />
<siteMapNode url="~/../SMD/Default.aspx" title="SMD" description="" roles="*" />
[code]...
I have confirmed in all of the SiteMaps that there is a node with url="~/Default.aspx" with roles="*" (which includes public/anonymous access), so I am very confused as to why this problem occurs.
SiteMap does not have a node for Default.aspx. All of them do. SiteMap's Default.aspx node is not accessible for security reasons to the current user/role. They're all accessible to anonymous users and this problem even exists for super admin users. Passed-in URL contains querystrings (Default.aspx?abcd). I don't know if this is a problem (I sure would hope not) but once the problem manifests itself, I can handwrite the URL with no querystrings and the problem still exists.
SiteMap changes. It doesn't Service's permissions to the sitemap file. The sitemap works perfectly fine after a deployment, so unless permissions are changed in a way that IISRESET fixes, then this is not an issue. The worker process becomes globally corrupt. I don't think so. We have ~12 web sites all in the same app pool and the problem always stays confined within a single web site. Also, we have yet to have this happen to more than a single web site at a time although it has manifested itself in 4 different ones so far.

I've got a custom menu navigation built from a web.sitemap file, the first line of this would be something like:
SiteMapNodeCollection topLevelNodes = SiteMap.RootNode.ChildNodes;
However, now I want to be able to create multiple web.sitemap files, and then programmatically determine which web.sitemap file to use, but I can't seem to find out how to do this. I'm assuming I could either create one custom SiteMapProvider that can perform the logic to determine which web.sitemap file to load, or I have multiple providers, each one with the SiteMapFile property set to a specific *.sitemap file, and then switch providers programmatically before I access SiteMap.RootNode.

I have a website that has many pages. Half of the pages need to redirect a user to a specific page. The other half DO NOT need to redirect a user. How can I mark a page as needing / not needing redirection without going into each Page_Load and manually writing my code. I was thinking about creating a MasterPage and creating a virtual property called NeedsRedirection and overriding it in the webpages, but I soon realized that the webpages still do not INHERIT from the master page. Any other suggestions as how to mark a page as needing redirection? Can I do this in the markup to make it easy?

I need to get a dropdownlist itemlist to expand in MSIE. The width of the dropdownlist control is set to a fixed width and it cannot be altered onclick, so I need to have the list of items that drops down when clicking autoexpand widthwise. I have tried several different jquery options that are out there, but they are not stable because they do not work on every click and sometimes forces the user to click twice for the itemlist to appear. Displaying a tooltip is not enough, I need to see the list expanded.
The list should look like this;
**DROPDOWNLISTCONTROL**
**LONG CONTENT THAT STRETCHES WHEN EXPANDED**
The list currently look like this in MSIE, and I cannot expand the dropdownlistcontrol,
**DROPDOWNLISTCONTROL**
**LONG CONTENT THAT STR**
Is there anyone who knows of a smart way to do this?

Periodically a rash of occurrences of the following error happen. I believe they're the result of hack attempts. Whether that's the case or not, my question is how can I handle the error? I want to avoid unhandled exceptions. The TreeView control is just
a standard .Net TreeView control, not a custom one. If you suggest a code solution, please code it in VB.Net as that's what I'm using.

I am creating a CacheDependency on the file that my SiteMap provider uses. I would like to get the name of the file from my sitemap provider instead of hard coding it. Is there a way?
Edit
Duh, I forgot to mention: XmlSiteMapProvider that comes with ASP.NET

Reflector shows a private member field called _filename that isn't exposed in any way as far as I can tell.

I am having a problem with setting a flag on sucessful completion of a record in a stored proc. I am using following code. stored proc: Update where condition.
if @@RowCount=1
update table
set ItemReviewed=1
where condition.....
select @Count=@@rowcount
here the problem is i do have 2 update statments in a single proc..if one is sucessful then its setting if others failed...I want to check both are sucessful. @count will return the bool to my code where i can move on to the next record. if some testing @@rowcount is not feasible one to use...Itemreviewed is bit field.

I have a button on my gridview that makes visible another gridview nested inside a column. What I want to do is to use the same button to hide it again. I can already make visible my nested gridview, and I know to hide the gridview itself would be the same code again. The problem I have is setting my flag in order to control which branch of my if statement is executed. I tried writing this inside the button event bool flag = false; and then changed it to ture after the gridview is shown, but of course it re sets itself to false again, and the else bit is never reach when you press the button again.
Is there away where I can persist a flag that when the button is pressed one branch of the if statement is reached, and when it is pressed again, the next branch is run? I do want to use JavaScript because the page is already overloaded with it!! I am using a template field with a button set inside it, and thus I wish to use code behind posting back to the server
