Web Forms :: UpdateParameters.Add Uses The Word NULL Instead Of NULL Value To Sql Db
Jan 5, 2011
In my code behind, I have the following code that I want to insert a null value for a parameter. Instead of doing that, it is adding the word "NULL" to my database. What am I doing wrong?
I have setup my business object to have a create_date and edit_date members both datetime datatypes. My company want to display the create_date and edit_date fields in a gridview for each transaction. The problem i have is that after insterting a record it will have a valid create_date but no edit_date and when displayed in the gridview it defaults to datetime.minvalue (My default). How on earth do i show an empty field in my gridview for a null datetime field in the database?
I am using similar architecture to the Imar Spaanjaars example of a tiered solution. With a few small tweeks it has worked well for me for ages. I am passing a List<Database> to my object datasource which connects to my gridview.
I have a problem with a SessionVariable. I will explain what is happening:
1. From the default.aspx I send Session["LoginByAdmin"] = "Dummy"; and then redirect to this page where I have the code below. So the Page_Load sees that this Session["LoginByAdmin"] != null and enter this page. This works fine !
2. In the Page_Load, I later fill a ListBox1 with foldernames.
3. With Button1_Click1, I will now delete the choosen Folder in the ListBox1 wich works fine the first time and the ListBox updates the new existing folders in the ListBox. (I have wrapped this inside an updatepanel)
The problems comes now when I try to delete a choosen folder in the ListBox1 the second time in a row. When I select a Folder in the ListBox1 and now Press Button1, I will be redirected to "Default.aspx". This meens that this code is running: (That meens that Session["LoginByAdmin"] == null and I have not set this to null anywhere. This is my big question how this variable can be = null here?
if (Session["LoginByAdmin"] == null) Response.Redirect("Default.aspx"); break;
I have a stored procedure to insert data into Table B, but when I tried to insert a null value into column ID of table B, this error came up:
The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_tableB_tableA". The conflict occurred in database "database name", table "table A", column 'ID'.
I am guessing adding nothing to the null value column is the problem, but i don't know how to fix it... The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_tableB_tableA". The conflict occurred in database "database name", table "table A", column 'ID'.
I am using dropdownlist in my view page with some values which will display corresponding ID(primary key of other table) in my database.If i leave my dropdownlist blank and save it in database then its showing null parameter error. Can you explain how to use this reference type to overcome this error
My site was woking fine, now i noticed that i get an error "Microsoft JScript runtime error: 'null' is null or not an object" when i checked the view source, i saw the following system generated code
<script type="text/javascript"> var Page_ValidationActive = false; if (typeof(ValidatorOnLoad) == "function") { ValidatorOnLoad(); function ValidatorOnSubmit() { if (Page_ValidationActive) { return ValidatorCommonOnSubmit(); } else { return true; } WebForm_AutoFocus('txtMailAddress');// --> IS THIS RIGHT???? out side the braces??? </script> </form> </body> </HTML>
here is my code for selectiong some records from db table
string strSql = "select * from mtblNBD where SentTo=@SentTo and InternalStatus Is NULL order by DeadLine desc"; SqlCommand com = new SqlCommand(strSql, con); com.Parameters.Add("@SentTo", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 50).Value = (string)Session["uname"];
here I am using parameters for SenTo field but not for NULL so it is ok... or should I use parameters for this field where value is NULL , if yes then how can I use parameter for this
I get an exception when deleting a row that says "Value cannot be null. Parameter Name: Original_ProductName" When I check the locals window the value is null. The ProductID has a value, but all of the other fields that are prefaced with the "original_" are null. I don't see what the issue is. I checked the bll and the gridview itself and they seem to have the necessary things. I didn't post all of the gridview and objectdatasource for brevity.
the exception listed the Original_ProductName in caps. In the code it is listed as "original_productName". This seems to be done consistently throughout so I don't think it is a capitalization issue.
I am sending the resluts of my form via a function that calls a HTML template that inserts the values. I would like to include a if statement that checks to see if a form field is NULL and then inserts a "n/a" to place in the HTML template.
Here is the function that sends the form:
[Code]....
So in the above code the value of fname=john and the value of lname is blank, I want to anything that is blank with "n/a"
I have done the following in codebehind of a master page trying to use codebehind to dynamically declare a variable (TextBox1) that exists on my content page. I can't declare it in the html because it is on the content page and unless I am viewing that particular content page, I get an error. So I am trying to create it here when needed.
[Code]....
[Code]....
I don't get an error, but my value for TxtBox1 in the end is "null". I have selected onPreRender to make sure that it is the last thing to take place.
I'm using webservice to integrate asp.net app with PeopleSoft. Sometimes, the value that I get from a querystring (eg in url below, request id =7) and pass it to PeopleSoft via webservice is blank, although the querystring contains key value pair. This causes the webservice integration piece to fail. What can cause this issue where the querystring value is blank? and how can I fix it?
In my database table I allow null for the gender field. However, when the form is being edited, it gives me an error since the RadioButtonList does not have a match value for null. How do I get around this? Is there a way to have null value in the RadioButtonList control?
I've been trying solution I've found oline all day trying to get a GridView to Display its Header when its datasource returns 0 rows. So far, nothing has worked for me. I did come across an interesting bit of code, but I'm having a spot of bother with something else preventing me from getting it to work.
I have a javascript to validate and avoid null values for my form but there are some textboxes that I need to be 'optional'. I tried erasing the validation for province address and province contact in javascript to make it optional, but the problem is whenever I add the values in the database, an error message appears "Input string was not in a correct format". It's in C# This is my present code wherein the provincial address and provincial contact must only be optional:
If dt1.Tables("PresentTotal").Rows(0).Item("C") Is System.DBNull.Value <> True Then ctxt.Text = dt1.Tables("PresentTotal").Rows(0).Item("C") Else ctxt.Text = "" End If
The script works fine for those peoples number is in that table but when the number of that person is not there in tahat table then it gives error...
And I'd like to update it to the value of FileUpload1.PostedFile.FileName I have this in a variable in the aspx.vb page as myFileName How would I use that value in the UpdateParameters section?
my table field allows null values. but my code below does not work unless a value is assigned to my variable even though the glable variable is initialised to 0; tried the DBNull.Value - still, it gives me error as the table in question is linked and expecting a value.
