Web Forms :: Updating Client Side Controls Asynchronously From Service Calls

Oct 8, 2010

I am trying to update client side controls asynchronously with information from a service.

The service I am using has a callback delegate that points to the users web page (server side)

I would like to update information on the page that is initiated by another users also consuming the same service. exactly like a chatroom.

I am trying to use an update panel, and call updatepanel.update() (server side) once I recieve the information from the service. basically: how do I partially update control data from the server side so that client side can see it.

C# - How To Retain Sessions Across Calls To Web Service From A Soap Client

Sep 14, 2010

Here is how my system is set up:

A web service using ASP.Net web service The web service has a web method with EnableSession=true
A client which refers to the web service using "Service References" (note: not "Web References")
The app.config of the client has allowCookies=true

[Code].....

The call to AppendUpload returns false, because of the mismatching session ids. Why is that?
As far as I can see, I have the right attributes for the web method, the client has the correct config, and the same instance of the proxy is used.

State Management :: Creating Cookie With Client Scripting And Updating From Server Side?

Aug 9, 2010

cookies are generated from the client scripting.e.g. document.cookie = city=NYC;

I want to update this from GUI using

Response.cookies["city"] = LA;

I could not understand why this is not possible.( I read about Httponly and all that stuff but still not clear).If I use Javascript in code behind page then I am able to change the value.e.g.

Literal ltMsgUpdate = new Literal();
ltMsgUpdate.Text = "<script type='text/javascript'>document.cookie = 'city=LA';" + "</script>";
Page.Controls.Add(ltMsgUpdate);

But I could not use this type of code because there is response.redirect statement in the function where I am updating cookie using (response.cookie) and that's why the javascript code never runs.

Bottomline: I want to update cookies in code behind page which is generated in client scripting.

WCF - Call Same Service From Client And Server Side

Jun 15, 2010

I have a simple WCF service that I call server side from code behind via a service reference. It's used for validation and works and was automatically setup by Visual Studio and is using SOAP I think because the binding is wsHttpBinding.

I want to use the same WCF service, but call it client side from jQuery using ajax(). I'm trying to implement it by way of these instructions.

But if I make the changes to get the client side call working, I have to add the decoration below which I think will break what works on the server side and also change the system.serviceModel section in web.config.

[WebInvoke(Method = "POST",
BodyStyle = WebMessageBodyStyle.Wrapped,
ResponseFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json,
RequestFormat= WebMessageFormat.Json) ]

How do I have a WCF service that can be called both from the server-side and client side (jQuery/ajax)?

Or put another way, this may be incorrectly worded, can an endpoint have multiple bindings?

WCF / ASMX :: Service Reference On Client Side?

Dec 15, 2010

I am having a strange issue in my C# Console Application:

Name Space: WcfConsoleApp
Main Class: Program.cs
Name Space: WcfConsoleApp.ServiceReference
this namespace contains the WCF service reference

After building the project, the Program.exe avaliable in Debug folder is executing fine as expected.But when i move the exe to Client, where i need to actually run this exe, it works fine up to the line where i am referencing the Service, the line is:

WcfConsoleApp.ServiceReference.ServiceClient service = new WcfConsoleApp.ServiceReference.ServiceClient();

the consoel app crashes on the client machine at this line. (i know this because before this line, i display some mesage on the console)the same .exe and works fine at my development machine.I am sure it has to do some thing with reference path, i think the program is not getting to the path where service reference is avaliable. I have copied the full project folder as it is to the client, but still its is not working.

C# - Updating Panels (panel1 And Panel2) Asynchronously

Jun 23, 2010

I want to update panels (panel1 and panel2) asynchronously. Passing Data To Server And Updating Asynchronously?

Jul 31, 2010

Basically I have a site where I want the user to input something, have it go to the server for processing and then return it asynchronously, load the contents into a div and then fade it in with jQuery. What is the best way to the do accomplish this?

Currently here is my "solution":

$(document).ready(function () {
$('#output-box').hide();
$('#form1').submit(function () {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "Default.aspx/ParseData",
data: "{ $('#txtInput').val() }",
success: function (msg) {
$('#output-box').text(msg).fadeIn();
}
});
return false;
});
});

It doesn't work - just returns the contents of Default.aspx. So how do I properly send the contents of #txtInput to the ParseData function in Default.aspx.vb? Also, is this the best way to accomplish something like this? Should I even need to use jQuery to send the data, or should I simply call the function and have it grab the data server-side, put in the information in the result div, and then show it using jQuery?

Javascript - User Control With Client + Server Side CustomValidation; Wrong Client Side Validator Is Picked

Nov 23, 2010

I have a user control which contains a CustomValidator which is used according to whether a RadioButton is checked or not (there are several RadioButtons, I'm only showing the relevant one)

<asp:RadioButton runat="Server" ID="RadioBetween" GroupName="DateGroup" CssClass="date_group_options_control_radio" />
[code]...

There is some client + server side validation code (the server side code does exactly the same thing and is skipped for brevity)

<script type="text/javascript">
function ValidateDateFields_Client(source, args) [code]...

There are two instances of this control in the page. When running the client side version it hits the wrong one (the version of the control which is disabled). You can see from the generated HTML both are correctly specified. I'm not sure how .NET works out which clientside function to call given they both have the same name.

<script type="text/javascript">
//<![CDATA[
var ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator = document.all ? document.all["ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator"] : document.getElementById("ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator");

[code]...
Do i need to add something in to scope it? What's the best way to achieve this? If I disable the loading of the second control everything works fine.

JavaScript - Exposing Server-side State Through Client-side Controls

Feb 11, 2011

I have a list of items on an ASP.net page. That list is selectable in that whenever the user clicks on one, the page does a postback and the server code stores the index or some unique identifier of the picture in a ViewState property indicating that it is currently selected.

I would like to minimize the load on the server and therefore I would like to store the index or unique identifier representing the image in some way on the client side. The best way I can think to do this is to store said information in a hidden field ), however I had two questions about this before I go crazy:

Is this a security risk in any way, shape or form (i.e., exposing implementation details of the page)?
Is there a better/best way to do this that is more industry-standard? Does ASP.net provide a framework to do this that is cleaner than my idea? Seems like this would be a fairly common requirement to me...

How To Asynchronously Call A Web Service

Aug 27, 2010

I need to asychronously call a web service from an ASP.NET application. The aspx does not need the answer from the web service. It's just a simple notification.

I'm using the ...Async() method from web service stub and <%@Page Async="True" %>.

ws.HelloWorldAsync();

My problem: the web page request is waiting for the web service response.

How to solve this problem? How to avoid any resource leak when the web service is down or when there is an overload?

How To Execute Web Services Asynchronously In Server Side When Called By JQuery's .ajax

Mar 22, 2011

I have an ASP.NET (3.5) web page which calls a few web methods (SOAP based) using jQuery's .ajax method. The web methods implement 'ScriptMethod' attribute and return JSON data. The web service file (asmx) is local to the same project.

I noticed these web methods execute synchronously on the server which means they run sequentially and affect performance negatively, some methods are waiting, when some of them are slow.

I read this article and I am not sure if I understand that WebMethods which implement Scriptmethod can run synchronously only (they implement IHttpHandler not IHttpAsyncHandler).

If this is true, I might have to change the design. I am looking for other designs, maybe like using WCF, where the browser can call webmethods using JavaScript and the web methods run asynchronously on the server.

Load XMLdocument Asynchronously Or Asynchronous 3rd Party Service Call?

Dec 21, 2010

I am using a third party service for location time(zonal).If I pass latitude and longitude of the location with service URL it returns the time of that location in XML format.But the problem is some of the time this service gets too much slow so because of that my home page gets stuck because its a synchronous call of that service.here my code-

string TimeZoneUrl = "http://ws.geonames.org/timezone?";
XmlDocument xmlDoc = new XmlDocument();
xmlDoc.Load(TimeZoneUrl + "lat=" + latitude + "&lng=" + longitude);
XmlElement root = xmlDoc.DocumentElement;
XmlNodeList nodes = root.SelectNodes("//*");

How can I make this a asynchronous call?

WCF / ASMX :: Calling A Web Service Method Asynchronously Does Not Work In Console Application

Sep 15, 2010

I have a web service that has a CreateReport method that generates a report based on the specified criteria.

When I call this method Synchronously using a Windows Application or Console Application, the call works fine and the report is created.

When I call this method ASynchronously (CreateReportASync) using Windows Application the report is created.

When I call this method ASynchronously (CreateReportASync) using Console Application the web service does not even get the call.

I am using VS2005 and .Net Framework 2.0. So the proxy is automatically created with the Async methods. I am not really interested the result of the method call, so I do not add a Callback Delegate.
