Web Forms :: Validating 2 Text Box Control
Mar 2, 2010
I have 2 text boxes one for first name and one for last name. If the user enters a first name then the last name cannot be empty. Is there a validation control i can use and how can i display the message in the validation summary.

I have created the user control and it has got one table with few rows in it. One row has got a text box with custom validaor and other row will have check boxes dynamically added through server side.
On the main page, i am loading that user control about 10-15 times depending upon the values from the database.
Is there any way of setting the properties of user control validator on the main page? Text box will only be validated if any check box is checked in the user control.
I am also not able to find the usercontrols through the main page.

I have the following piece of code which I was hoping would result in an error message being displayed if an incorrect date format was input rather than an website error page saying "The string was not recognized as a valid DateTime."
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="DateCompleted" SortExpression="DateCompleted"> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox2" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("DateCompleted") %>'> </asp:TextBox> <asp:CompareValidator ID="CompareValidator" ValidationGroup="GridView1" ControlToValidate="TextBox2" errormessage="Invalid Date" Display="Dynamic" Operator="DataTypeCheck" Type="Date" runat="Server" /> </EditItemTemplate> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="Label2" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("DateCompleted") %>'></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField>

I have a textbox that the user is suppose to enter a valid user name , the valid user names are stored in database. for example the valid user names might be U100, U101, U102 ,U103,U104,U105,U106,U107. so if the user types anything other than that he should get a error message and I dont want to implement a drop down list for that , how to do this in asp or should i explore javascript for this.

I am wanting to have a numbers/currency only textbox control. So basically it should accept this kind of input
$123
523,100
$12.50
85.59
and convert this to
123
523100
12.50
85.59
and should not accept this input
F12
309$2342
,102
I have looked at validator controls but I would like to this conversion/checking completely from the client side. What would be the best way of doing this? I also would like a clientside error(message box or something) popped up if they try to enter invalid data and prevent them from leaving the bad data in the textbox. and then when they get out of focus of the textbox it automatically converts the data into a flat number from the client side.

I'm adding RequiredField validators to a group of RadioButtonList controls, and something strange is happening when the page loads. The page renders just fine with no validators tripped, but as soon as I click on one of the radio buttons, the validator for that RadioButtonList fires and shows me the error message. I initially thought that maybe the various validators were cross-linked, so I tried clicking on a radio button in every list, but they all react the same. Here's the code that generates the whole thing:

I have a custom user control with some input fields and a submit button. I need to validate the fields using the jquery validation plugin when the submit button is clicked. (The function of the submit button is to create another custom control which displays the data entered in the above mentioned control)
Bt as far as I knw, validation plugin works only with form validation ryt? And my custom control does not contain a form tag as I am using master pages. The custom control is present in one of the content pages and the master page already contains a form tag with a runat=server attribute. And I guess one page can contain only a single form tag with runat=server attrib ryt?
So how do I get it to work?

I have a wrapper UserControl control around a DropDownList for managing language specific translation on the DropDownList values.
I also have a required field validator that is requried for the inner dropdownlist.
How can I expose this control via the usercontrol to allow validation?
The error I am currently getting is as follows:
[Code]....
Which is now working if I check the IsValid property of the page on postback.

I'm using the Asp.net change password control in my application and all seems to be find and dandy until a user tells me she has a problem meeting the strength requirements when changing her password. Looking into this, she is using IE 7 and no matter what she puts in, the validation fails (and ONLY in IE 7. Firefox, IE 8, Chrome etc. all work as expected). Here is the regex i'm using:
^(?=.*d)(?=.*[a-z])(?=.*[A-Z])(?!.*s).{5,15}$
I've tried out a few others that I've found throughout this site and others that folks seem to be using with no issues and I come across the same problem. It seems that which ever pattern I enter in last (digit, upper or lower alpha) is the one that is expected to be repeated min of 5 times. For example:
Hello1 (doesn't work)
11111Hello (doesn't work)
Hello11111 (works)
Again, this is ONLY in IE 7.

Putting text from LoginName control into Logout Text for LoginStatus control?
[Code]....
I would like for hte full logout link to read: "Welcome, username - Logout Here"
Username is obviously being provided by the LoginName1 control. I am unable to simply use concatenation so I assume I must turn the value of the LoginName object to a string and then concatenate it. Is there a way to do this?

I have a Calendar Control that I added text that show scheduled meetings on certain dates and it works okay.
The problem is that when I click on a date I need to http to another web page or sometimes goto a web page in the same web site. The problem is when the code that creates the hyperlink runs it replaces the text displaying "meetings" scheduled for that date instead appending the link to the date and retaining the "meetings" text that was already there.
Below is how I set that up with the code that adds the meetings followed by the url code that replaces the meetings text:
[code]...
or any other kind of link in my Calendar Control without clobbering whatever was in there? If it is not possible is there another way to link to another page after a date in the Calendar Control is clicked?

my web application i use FindControl to retrieve a Control By Name (it returns an System.Web.UI object). The control can be of various type and I don't want to treat them differently: I'd like to set the Text property to a defined string. I hope there's a class that I may use to cast the control and set the Text property.

I can't seem to get any sort of validator to fire when validating my DropDownList. I just want to make sure that it isn't left at "--Select--" when the user presses the Add button on the page. I've tried a range validator and required field validator and neither seem to fire at all. My DropDownList contains ID which is an int that is hidden and Name which is a string that is displayed. The ID is -1 for "--Select--". I use these all the time and can't understand why the page in this new solution is any different from other solutions I have done in the past. What have I missed?

We are developing an Intranet application that looks up some data for a user through hooks into Active Directory. However, our Network guys don't always enter in a users email address when creating a new user. Therefore, our user database is missing the email address for over half of our users. We have over 10,000 users, therefore asking them to enter 5000+ email addresses into each missing email address field in Active Directory isn't an option. I already know how to validate that an email address is correctly formatted using Regex. What I need is a way to lookup the email address entered in the email address textbox and see if it exists on Outlook/Exchange (or looking up the email address using the First Name/LastName would work). If it does exist then the address is valid, if it is invalid then the user typed in the wrong address. I've tried to do something with CDO, but have had no luck. We use Outlook 2003 and ASP.NET 2.0.

I have a textbox that is set to readonly so users won't try to type something in it. It is then populated when a treenode is clicked. I want to validate what is in the box after it's populated from the treenode click but if i have it set to readonly, in the codebehind it shows up as an empty string. if i take the readonly off it shows up populated. what would you do about this?
