I have a situation where a page fails validation if a Gridview on the page contains no datarows.
The rest of the page validates using a validation summary. I'd ideally like the failed validation message to be passed on to the validation summary.
i have textboxes(edititemtemplate and footertemplate) inside a gridview.
i want to prevent the user from entering hyphen(-) in the textboxes.

I have two dropdowns in the footertemplate of my gridview inside a usercontrol.
I also have a button "btnADD" inside the footer template. I am using the footertemplate to add a new row to the grid.
What do I do to validate on Button_click event for 'btnAdd' if a value is selected in the dropdown other than "select.." which I dynamically add in rowdatabound event?

View 4 RepliesI am using a bound gridview in ASP.NET 2.0. The gridview has the ability to edit/update and insert rows. One of the columns holds a number which represents a percentage. What I cannot figure out is how to ensure that all the rows in the gridview total 100% before being able to send the updates or newly inserted data to the database.
For example say there are 5 rows in the gridview, each row has 20% stored in the column so it adds up to 100% which is fine, the data is updated/inserted in the database. But say each row only had 15% totalling 75%, the user should not be able to send the updated/inserted data to the database until either they add a new row with a percentage of 25 or they edit the other rows for a cumulative total of 100%

Is it possible to validate a date format when you use a form view to enter the record into the database? I have a form view that is used to sign out for the day or week. I need to dates to be in mm/dd/yyyy format. Is there someway to use the validation controls so that it won't let you enter the record unless it is correct and will prompt them to enter the right info.

View 3 RepliesI'm creating an quiz application which queries the database and extracts the questions and choices. I use dynamically created controls such as a checkbox list and fill the values dynamically. How do I do this? Right now I have these functions:
array_random_init(); this creates a 10 element integer array from 1-20
- extract_question(i): this extracts a question indexed at i in DB, I created the controls and set the appropriate text in this function.
- validate_question(i); this is called by button_click and validates the question i according to DB.
I understand I have to recreate the controls in Page_init on postback, but what should it look like? Do I need to add "if IsPostBack" in page_init, or do I create the controls in page_init() and reset their properties in page_load when I use extract_question(i)? Also, I cannot seem to clear the selected boxes on postback, I added page directive enableviewstate=false" but it doesn't work. What's the right way to do it?

I have a page with one dropdownlist and one grid. when dropdownlist's selected index is changed i generate a BindingList with some data based on the dropdownlist's selected value. this BindingList is binded to the GridView with one readonly column (eg: Item) and one column for entering data (eg: qty).
i need the Qty column to directly editable (without pressing edit, then goes to edit mode). and update this values back to BindingList's corresponding Item when the qty cell's focus is changed.

I'm inserting data into a SQL database through a detailsview. When a user inserts an incorrect data type or leaves a required field blank it shoots off to a big error screen. Is there a control that I can use that will allow it to give an error (with a little star or something) that says which field is incorrect without the big error screen?

Firstly I have many controls, mainly radio buttons, that have required validators and a validation summary.
I have some radio buttons which contain property types, e.g. house, flat, maisonette etc. Then I have another set of radio buttons with floor level (Top, Middle, Ground). How can I make floor level mandatory only when flat or maisonette is selected and still be shown in the validation summary?

View 1 RepliesI added a RequiredFieldValidator to my InsertItemTemplate, and it seems to be working fine. The problem I am having, however, is that now I cannot do anything else in the ListView (like edit or delete items) UNLESS the required field has a value. Is there some way I can manually do the validation when the user clicks the 'Insert' button on the InsertItemTemplate, or some other little trick I can perform so the user doesn't have to first type in a value just to delete something else in the list?

Each page has a seperate submit button, but for some reason each pages submit button is validating all the radio buttons on each tab, i picked the seperate controls to validate under but on any submit theya re all validated instead of just the ones on that tab.

I have a listview set up in "flow" mode where the existing records are all on an extended page so you can scroll down to any record.
The InsertItem Template is in the first position, making it easy to insert a new record.
And one can scroll down the page to any record, click the edit button and update that record -- nice having everything on one scrollable page.
I am running into a problem with validations. I have validation controls restricting inputs for all the textboxes on the Insert Item template. They work fine. And on Item Inserted I am running a page validation:

which works fine also.
The problem occurs when I scroll down to an existing record, and go to edit it. I have all the same validation constraints on the textboxes for the EditItemTemplate as I have on the InsertItemTemplate. But I cannot successfully do a page validation on updating the record. The code I am using on update is:

All the controls in the Edit Item template are part of ValidationGroup "edit1" and those of the InsertItem Template are part of ValidationGroup "edit2"
How can I get around receiving validation errors on the InsertItem Template when I am trying to validate just the EditItemTemplate when both are present on the page?
I have a query that I want to test the performance of when the query is included directly in the SqlDataSource versus when I call a stored procedure. Does anyone have suggestions on how I would be able to closely watch the actual steps here? I was thinking of turning on tracing and adding Trace.Write for each of the events that fire along the way. This doesn't seem efficient and I wanted to see if there was a better approach.
